basketball. march madness is awesome. way better than the crappy football bcs rankings. the best teams dont always get in that way. in march madness, good teams get in and get to make a run. if you dont make the national championship game in football, youve got no shot at it. at least there are some upsets and exciting games in basketball.

March Madness is great, but I think it's losing it's luster (maybe just because MD isn't getting to the Championship, lol). Personally the Bowl games are great, because for most of them, you can stay up late and watch them, because their on winter break for many people. However with March Madness, the games are during the work/school week, so many people are unable to view it. College football also puts up better games (USC v. Texas, Boise State v. Oklahoma).

i dont think its losing its luster. i never said bowl games arent good, but i hate seeing all those huge teams that just stack with recruits. i like seeing the small teams coming outta nowhere (george mason)

But those little teams also ruin the game, for exampl George Mason got hot, and were able to knock off some big teams, but eventually they got wooped in the F4. This may've been exciting, but it eliminated teams that worked hard in the regular season, just to lose to one hot team. That's the flaw with a play-off like that, great teams get eliminated if they don't show up for one game. That's why I think it's losing it's luster, there are too many evenly spread teams that can upset one another.

those little teams dont ruin it. if they are good enough to make the field, they arent horrible. they deserve a shot if they play best.

Yeah, but look at the rockies, got hot, and weren't as good as the Cubs or the D-backs, when you look at the season, and it showed when the Red Sox killed the rockies, it would've been a more exciting series if the Cubs, D-Back, or even the Mets would've made it, because they would've put up more of a fight. When a mediocre team gets hot (Rockies) they don't really deserve to be in the Championship, just like many of the little college b-ball teams (G. Mason) don't really deserve it.

i think there should be a setup like basketball. make the season start sooner or shorter or something. then pick like the top 10 teams or something and seed them and let there be a playoff.

October 30, 2007  05:07 PM ET

yes rough times. mattingly was the way too go

October 30, 2007  05:11 PM ET

Maybe, but Girardi is a good manager, they should be fine.

where are the votes?

October 30, 2007  05:40 PM ET

The College Football scene is better there I agree and you get my vote but first I must say go Hoyas. I lived in Maryland and got many a fat lip for that but I love my Hoyas. I am on your side though but the BCS could take a lesson from the basketball playoff and give us more football. We could take the top 8 and have a playoff that would exclude really obscure teams but settle alot of strife in the system.

why was Mattingly the way to go? what experience has he had? what has he done to show he'd be a good mananger? he'd be Joe Torre part two which is obviously not what the club wants, nor what it needs.

sorry guys, ive been busy

October 31, 2007  03:08 PM ET

march madness all the way. no question

October 31, 2007  03:12 PM ET

If they would install some sort of playoff in NCAAF than it might compete with March Madness, not untill then.

Terpfan...you lost me arguing how one game can ruin it for a team in bball but not cfb?

You lose one game in cfb and you are all but done. This year may be an exception, but as Michigan what shot they had at a title after they lost to App state.

Really, wat about Florida last year, they lost a game, but they still made it to the Championship.
