Today there was breaking news of Owner Clay Bennett saying he is asking David Stern and the NBA to relocate the Sonics to his home town, Oklahoma City. My question is will it really happen, do the fans want it to happen or can they stay.

I think with Kevin Durrant on board now that the Fans should have a change of heart. Kevin Durrant is a freaking beast.

New Coach PJ Carlismo is interesting as well because a player hated him so much he was willing to choke his brains out in a game, in public.

I hope to see the Sonics stay put because of the '79 Championship in the Rafters. They've been a great team for a long time. Shawn Kemp, Gary Payton will always be remebered for what he did in Seattle.

Lets keep the sonics in Seattle.
Bill Gates build them a new Key Arena.

I dont think the Sonics are going to stay in Seattle, I dont think there's enough interest for them to stay in Seattle. Seattle only averaged 15,995 people at there home games a year ago, that's good enough for 25th in the league.

Meanwhile, in Oklahoma City they were in averaging about 2,000 more people at game, in place of New Orleans for the Hornets. While thats not great its still better, and with a young talented player like Durant they want to be in a place where there will be support.

How come that means Seattle wont get more fan boost because of Kevin Durrant. I mean the last few years has been a little boring to be a sonic fan, but Durrant bring that ROY talk to Seattle, the seats should be full.

But thats not the point, the Key Arena is old and busted, they need a new place to play ball and nobody wants to help build the arena or get the land to build it on, thats the problem, its not butts in the seats. Ask the bobcats or the clippers how they survived for 12 years.

The Bobcats haven't been around for 12 years though. If no one is willing to give some money for a new arena in Seattle or even find the land to build it on than that IMO means that there just isn't a demand for basketball in Seattle. The Sonics have a great team, but people just aren't in to it there anymore. Attendance is a big part of why the team should move, if people don't show up then there's no reason to be there anymore.

Do you remember what happened in Charlotte?

Let me educate you a little bit on what happened. The Hornets were a great expansion team and had a great fan base. They had Alozno Mourning, They had it all going for them with a great fan base. They made a bad move in the vlade divac trade which ended up giving the Lakers Kobe Bryant. But the city hated the owners. And then bam the city moves the team to New Orleans.

Enter the Bobcats. Same city, different owners.

My fault forgot about the Hornets. Seattle and Charlotte are two seperate cities. I dont think you can compare the two situations. In Charlotte there was a demand for basketball..in Seattle I just don't see it anymore. It would be like if you were to open up a business and it started out lots of people were going, but after a few years people just stopped going because you didnt have anything the public wanted, you would move your business to where there was a demand for it, same thing the Sonics should do. If there's a demand for a NBA franchise somewhere else go there.

sonics got a lot of memories in seattle...it'd be a shame to leave...but it is very likely

Stern and the NBA owners likely will not approve a team move because of the sales market. It's already been admitted by the mew ....ahhheemm
(Ken Bering) owner Clay Bennett that they will make more money staying in Seattle, and Stern said moving them would not be his first option - plus a new group has gotten together to buy out Bennett and keep them in Seattle. Stern's more likely to approve that

Hornets were in top 10 in attendance, almost selling out most of their games......

Totally false......Sales market???? Y are making **** up......Hornets wanted to stay because Shinn said he was uncertain NO cld support a franchise (Saints being team in Crescent City)......But he had to return because of Katrina and he didnt want to seem like he was abandoning the city.....

Samji says and believes that the Sonics will fly over Oklahoma City and have fun times playing b-ball in their great new state homeland. Many fans will love them and caress cherished memories in their minds.

November 3, 2007  12:41 AM ET

the same thing happened to the saints, they sold out all their games when played in san antonio, supposedly a "small market" city. i hope the move doesn't happen, the sonics have lots of young raw talent that should put fans in the seats and keep their jack-**** owner somewhat satisfied.

Actually city leaders and the people of seattle have voted down measures that would have built new arenas. Looks like they are more interested in double tall Starbuck's lattes then the sonics

November 3, 2007  01:51 AM ET

To anyone who didn't know, this remained small national news, a group of owners came up willing to buy the team and keep them in the key arena. Now David Stern has something to threaten Clay Bennet with becasue Seattle is no longer sitting on its butt. Its simple he either gets a deal done or sells the Sonics, there will be no movement. They have even supposedly started throwing amounts at him, who knows if those inital amounts were legit or Bennet even wants to sell, but whatever it is Seattle finally seems to be heading in the right direction to keep the Sonics.

As for do I think they shouold move. Obviously not, moving the team out of Seattle creates huge issues for the NBA, All of a sudden one of the largest markets in the United States is without a team. The population of Seattle is only 500,000, but the greater Seattle area has possibly 3 million fans. Does the state of Oklahoma even have 3 million people in it.

When I was up there, Sonics games were packed. Seattle backs their fans to a fualt. Sonics will remain and even though I now reside in Norcal, I want them to stay.

November 3, 2007  03:35 AM ET

Um no the key has been empty for some time....and Bennett put in papers on plan to move. Stern the other day was mentiong Seattle's failure to work a new arena deal. Yes Seattle is going to court over Key Arena but doesn't stop the fact that if Seattle wanted to keep them they could have approved a quality arena along time ago and this wouldn't even be an issue

November 4, 2007  09:38 PM ET

ok i posted my response, i went to the Jazz whupping of the Warriors in SLC on saturday night. Great game, sorry about the delayed response.

November 5, 2007  02:26 PM ET

The Sonics should NOT be relocated. They have a longstanding history and tradition there and it would be wrong to see all that swept away because of an owner's greedy decision to move.

At this point, the situation is stalled due to the courts barring arbitration. This move is nothing more than posturing by Bennett to speed things along for a new arena. The Sonics WILL remain in Seattle until 2010 at the very least.

November 5, 2007  03:11 PM ET

we want them to stay in seattle, bring back Payton, haha that would be funny

November 5, 2007  03:57 PM ET

Yes voters voted down an initiative to build an arena, but did you seriously look at those plans? I live in Seattle and I am all for supporting my local sports team, but not at all costs. The deals that have been presented have either shifted too much of the burden to the city without proper compensation or to the owners without enough incentives. Seattle residents aren't against financing a sports arena (see Qwest and Safeco), but the plan has to be reasonable.
