A lot of people in Philadelphia refuse to believe the All-Star centerfielder will not be resigned. I find that hard to believe considering what he's probably expecting to get paid after Byrnes got his new contract. And with all that talent in Shane Victorino and Micheal Bourne. Sure you will miss the bat in the lineup, but if the Phils sign Lowell or a hitting third baseman it will fill that void.

They certainly should re sign Rowand. Along with being one of top defensive CF in the game he is a very good hitter as well. 309 avg and 89 RBI is tough to replace along with his defense.
How exactly would signing a 3B make up for a CF leaving? Lowell's a good hitter, yeah, but they need Rowand out there in the outfield.
Philly is certainly not afraid to spend some money. They haven't ever been afraid to do that. And honestly, he deserves to get at least as much money as Byrnes got. Last season he had more HR, better AVG, more RBI. He's not gonna steal the bases like Byrnes, but he is certainly better defensively and is a much better power hitter. Another thing to think about with Lowell is that he put up those stats in Boston. Batting behind Youk, Ortiz, and Manny. He won't have that same luxury wherever he goes.

Nice point, but you figure with a Lowell say at third base you will have basically 4 all star caliber players in the Phillies infield with Howard, Utley, J-Roll, and Lowell. He will bat behind those guys. While I personally think they should sign him from a fan's standpoint, I know that from a frontoffice view, with Bourne and Victorino in the wings, that money should go towards a starting pitcher and a decent bullpen man.
PeavyFan: Voters=IDIOTS said 11/03, 10:23 AM
So, you're saying he'll bat 5th behind those four IF? How is that any different than this past season?
I really don't see what your point is with that. He has no problem batting 5th, he did it all year long.
And imagine that top 5 of the order. Impressive.
Rowand's agent is asking for quite a bit of money, but I just can't imagine the Phillies letting him go. They want to win now and with CF being such an important position, I don't see the point in letting this All Star go.

My point is they don't need the money to re-sign Rowand as much as they need to get a solid pitcher and an everyday third baseman. He's great, we are not doubting that...we just don't need a great centerfielder for that money when we can get a good centerfielder for less, and pick up solid pitching and 3baseman
PeavyFan: Voters=IDIOTS said 11/03, 10:45 PM
Look man. The positions that you want to build the future of the team around is right up the middle, i.e. CF, SS, catcher. Sure, you need pitching. I would NEVER disagree with that.
You could get a CF for less.....obviously, but why do people like driving around in a Bentley? Because they have the money to spend, and it's better than what you're driving.
Don't try and tell me that a 3rd baseman is more important than a CF. You'll lose that argument ten times out of ten. Trust me.

Bourn needs more time to develop before he can really produce.

Report Offensive CommentRowand is a great player. A great team player, I should say. But about the power, it had to help hitting in that ballpark. And he was never a HR guy in the first place.

Report Offensive CommentPeavyFan, i think Lowell would have success in Philadelphia's lineup. while i doubt he'll leave Boston but with Philly, he'd probably hit just as well since their team hitting isn't that far off from Boston's.

Report Offensive CommentThere is reports that Lowell might sign here. There also is rumors about Schilling and D-Train.
I hope they get somebody good to pitch with Hamels and Kendrick. Moyer is now like 45 years old and had some good starts and some awful starts so i dont know if he is that reliable anymore, so they need some starting ptiching.
Another important part is J.C Romero, who was great down the stretxch and was a big part why they made the playoffs.
3rd Base needs helps and Lowell and Atkins have been thrown around. They have this guy named Mike Constanza in the minors and is supposedly talented.
