76 points. To Kansas. Yeah they are undefeated but you know what. It's Kansas. The former perennial doormat. And Nebraska is Nebraska, formerly one of the college football powerhouses. After that Miami slapdown in the 2001 National Title Game, everyone kind of saw this coming. So Bill Callahan was supposed to be the answer. I know when you get blown out in games like Ok. State;45-14, or Kansas 76-who cares then your so horrible, not everything that goes wrong is on the coach.

But against Texas, that's an example of bad coaching. Nebraska got a bit soft on defense and then starts missing tackles and becomes inept on offense. Callahan inept on offense? This guy was an offensive mastermind with the Raiders. I would know I'm a Raider's fan. But you know what that tells you? This guy can't coach in college. I know I'm stating the obvious but he's got to go and I think he will be the first to go this season.

While Nebraska is having a bad year, and Callahan is having a nightmare of a season, no coach has shown an inability to coach at this level like Charlie Weis. He has made a punch line out of one of the most storied college programs in the nation.

He allowed Navy to snap a 43 game 44 YEAR LOSING STREAK!!! A team that was once ripped for padding their schedule with every military school in the nation, now can't even win those games.

The Irish are not bowl eligible this season, and to be honest the only place the blame here can fall is the fat man with the headset. The is a team that let Ty Willingham go after a 6-6 season. And Ty actually had a better 1st season than Charlie. So now how can this team keep the FIRST COACH IN THE SCHOOL'S HISTORY TO LEAD THE TEAM TO A 1-8 Record.

ND is in real danger to losing to a talented AF team later this season, and that will do it for Weis. His predictions of being bigger than Bear Bryant will only apply to his waistline when ND lets him go after this season.

Wow...very good point. I was just thinking ND would not continue with it's 3 year axe, but that contract that Weis has is mammoth sized. Even if they both leave, Callhan will definitely go first which is the arguement here.

The reason I see ND making a move first is because they have this feeling of superiority over the rest of the NCAA. They feel that they should be able to hand pick any head coach they please.

Now, if the allow someone like Nebraska to drop their coach first then that could cost you some candidates. ND will get rid of Weis before the bowls even start. You see with ND there is a lot more riding on an awful season that most schools. If ND sucks and does nothing to change they could be in danger of losing their TV contract with NBC. They will not risk that by keeping the Cookie Monster as their head coach. And similar to an A-Rod move they will announce this when the most people care about football.

I see...but Nebraska couldn't even wait until the end of the regular season to get rid of their AD, and that may not have been just because of football. I thought it was. So I see Nebraska cutting the cord first, if not for anything other than Nebraska wants to get dibs at Turner the head coach at Buffalo. And ND might not feel so superior after this horrendous season. I definitely agree with you that Weis is bad. I mean a program like ND...I don't care how many people you lose. You shouldn't be that bad. but that contract is the big difference here, and to be quite honest, i think weis isn't leaving this year at all, much less before callahan.

"And ND might not feel so superior after this horrendous season"
I could not agree with you more. This season has knocked the Irish off of their pedestal quite a bit, and it is not like them to just sit back and say "maybe next year". This is a team about action, and that action will be to hire the biggest name they can find (as opposed to the biggest GUY they could find which didn't exactly work for them last time).

Also dealing with the time left on Weis' contract, SO WHAT! Ty Willingham was let go before his contract was up. That is why it is called "the first coach fired" not the first coach not retained at the end of their contract. Anyone that thinks this program will sit back for another 6 seasons of 1-9 football you have another thing coming.

You see right now the ND coaching job is losing it's draw by the second, the longer they wait the lower caliber coach they can get in the future.

"the fat man with the headset."

LMAO!!!!

November 3, 2007  09:15 PM ET

Weis isn't going anywhere. He's got a 10 year contract, ND isn't about to fire him and pay it off.

November 3, 2007  09:16 PM ET

Agree with Cowboys ND is keeping Charlie a long time ---

November 3, 2007  09:17 PM ET

Not about to fire him?

What do you mean? Who gives a whoot about contract length. If I were Weis, I would get out of there, before I am fired. If he stays until he is canned, it is this coming season...

November 3, 2007  09:18 PM ET

Willingham was under contract when he got canned, and he was 6-6

November 3, 2007  09:23 PM ET

for the irish nation, i give my condolences because Weis is not going anywhere, they paid him WAYYYY too much money. Callahan is a sitting duck; he and the team knows it. Don't expect too much from the Neb team the rest of the season

BTW: Irish will lose to air force and stanford, but win at duke. final record 1-10

November 3, 2007  09:23 PM ET

my bad, 2-10

November 3, 2007  09:24 PM ET

that would give them 2 wins rampageripster

November 3, 2007  09:25 PM ET

I hope they beat Duke...

November 3, 2007  09:28 PM ET

I don't, sorry Irish fans, but it is just funny at this point. To hear Charlie "I ate the Chocolate factory" Weis talk about how ND is a great team, and that they will be a national title contender next year even though they just lost to a 4-4 team.

November 3, 2007  09:34 PM ET

"Willingham was under contract when he got canned, and he was 6-6"

He didn't have a 10 year contract.

November 3, 2007  09:35 PM ET

Who cares about the length, somewhere else is bound to offer him money, and probably a better team to use to his advantage.

November 3, 2007  09:50 PM ET

you really think they are going to take the worst season in 100+ years sitting down?

November 3, 2007  10:16 PM ET

vote to schwartz

November 3, 2007  10:54 PM ET

Isn't the caoch in Arkansas legally retarded or something?

November 3, 2007  10:55 PM ET

whoever that Nutt guy is.

November 3, 2007  11:12 PM ET

Peavy fan: I'm not me?! If they get rid of their coach is would be so much less funny that their QB is Casey Dick. I mean Houston Nutt and Casey Dick it just makes for every Arkansas game to be fun.

November 4, 2007  04:01 PM ET

No vote.....Weis has 6 years left......Callahan doest deserve to be fired.....Make him fire his D-coordinator and give him 1 year more.....

November 4, 2007  08:43 PM ET

callahan might not even make to the end of the season

November 4, 2007  10:33 PM ET

This season it's a tough call picking worst coach of the year. But Callahan is gone first. I wouldn't be surprised if an announcement is made by the end of the week.
