The top 2 players in the NFL this season are Tom Brady and . . . Adrian Peterson

He's leading the league in rushing by 300 yards (granted, Willie Parker hasnt played yet this week), he just set the single game rushing record, and is on pace for 2000+ yards rushing and 16 touchdowns

I'll agree with Tom Brady but I'll take Derek Anderson as the 2nd. Since taking over the starting job in week 2 he has lead the Browns to 5 wins and only 2 loses.
QB rating of 91.7
255 yards per game
2108 passing yards
17 td's
8.2 yards per comp.
#2 in NFL in big plays ( over 20 yards )
46% 3rd down conversion
avg. 29 points per game
Derek Anderson is having an outstanding year.

Has Derek Anderson played well, absolutely, but those numbers you put up for him place him in the top 10 of QB's this season. QB's currently putting up better #'s than Derek Anderson: Brady, Manning, Roethlisberger, you could argue Gerrard. He's not even the 2nd best QB, let alone 2nd best player in the league.

Derek Anderson has turned the Cleveland Browns from a team the most people expected to win at the most 4 games to a team that has a chance against every team they face. The Browns are 5-3 because of Anderson.
People could say no, its because of Winslow and Edwards but they have both been in Cleveland for the past 2 years and the team was awful. If it were not for timeoutgate, the Browns should be 6-2.
While Peterson is having a great year, you can't look past that the team is still 3-5 after yesterdays win.

I'm a Steeler fan, so let me make this comparison. When Ben Roethlisberger led the Steelers from a 6-10 team to a 15-1 team, you could say that it was a direct result of him. A lot of people tried to say it was how great a team he had around him, but it was the exact same team, minus Roethlisberger, that was 6-10 the year before, so clearly it was him.

Now, did that mean that Ben Roethlisberger was one of the 2 best players in the NFL? No, it meant he was a great player, not that he was top 2. Same is true of Derek Anderson, yes, he's playing well, yes the Browns would be much worse off at this point without him, but no, that does not make him top 2.

This isnt about MVP, so talking about the success of the players' teams is irrelevant. Barry Sanders was often on a terrible team, but you certainly couldnt say he wasnt amond the best in the league every year.

Since the Peterson bandwagon has steamrolled this throwdown I am going to refrain from making another arguement for my point. However........ Today is November 7th 2007 and the Steelers still suck.

You and all of inbred Steelers fans will feel the wrath of Derek Anderson and yes, the #2 player in the NFL this year This coming Sunday. Bring the blitz and bring it often because you will be picked apart all day.

Moss and Peterson.

November 5, 2007  09:59 AM ET

Here come all the Peterson bandwagon TD's.....

did anyone see those holes his line was creating??? His line should get EQUAL CREDIT

November 5, 2007  10:14 AM ET

Goodell, his line was really good, but he broke a lot of tackles and made a lot of people miss to get those yards. The Chargers have a pretty good defense against the rush too.

November 5, 2007  10:26 AM ET

I know peterson is a BEAST.....

But some of those holes were HUGE!

And as for SD.....I couldnt tell you what the heck the coaching staff is doing there

Props to Peterson, but more props to his line as well. On alot of his runs he wasnt touched untill the safeties got to him

November 5, 2007  10:31 AM ET

I still say Addai is having a better season than Peterson. He ran wild against NE for the first 3 quarters.

November 5, 2007  10:33 AM ET

oh come on goodell after all your buffalo td's youre goin to bash on the peterson bandwagon...i mean im not a fan but the guys amazing.

November 5, 2007  10:36 AM ET

yo WB! you forgot to add that water is wet and the sun shines sometimes.

November 5, 2007  10:49 AM ET

Dereck Anderson????? The 2nd BEST????? are you kidding me. He might be a surprise and a good QB but 2nd "BEST" in the NFL? That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

November 5, 2007  11:22 AM ET

Who is on the Bills bandwagon???

November 5, 2007  11:35 AM ET

chaz, there were certainly other arguments to be made, I would have expected Peyton Manning, maybe Brett Favre, or, the person I would thought was actually the best argument for 2nd, Randy Moss.

November 5, 2007  11:40 AM ET

uuhhhhh

November 5, 2007  11:45 AM ET

AP is def better than Anderson...how can there be no love for Moss? He is the reason the Pats are winning right now...it was very clear in the game on sunday....but AP is sick right now...the future shines bright for this guy

November 5, 2007  11:52 AM ET

Vote to The Dead Horse! If you consider player impact on a team, it's Anderson. Without him, the Browns would be nowhere.

November 5, 2007  12:04 PM ET

What's wrong with Manning? He loses one game to the best team in the NFL (performing well with only two available receivers) and he is no longer top two? He still has the second best passing numbers in the NFL.

November 5, 2007  12:17 PM ET

arrested development (how did that show get cancelled...depressing), I would bet tempted to agree with you if I said 2 best options for MVP rather than 2 best players

November 5, 2007  12:18 PM ET

Manning is better than Brady

You can also put Moss in the mix. He has amazing stats as well.
