neither of the teams from this years world series will make it back. colorado played on pure adrenaline, and even though the team has a very bright future, there are other nl teams one move away from making a run (philly) and boston is losing mike lowell. manny is aging and him and ortiz are oft injured. and the pitching is young and will need a while to adjust. plus the regular starters are aging (varitek, manny, lugo isnt good, drew isnt either) pedroia and jacoby will be good but not enough. neither team makes it back

OK....I'll take this one just to argue. I agree with the Rockies. I think they are a very good team and may very well make the playoffs again. But to go on a run like that again? Not likely. But the Red Sox, I hate to admit it, are a team that has no real weakness. First thing, Boston isn't losing Lowell. He will be back. Yeah, Ortiz and Manny weren't at 100%. But did that matter? They still hammered the ball. The fact that they have some young pitching is a good thing. They will have Curt back. And with Lugo and Drew, both of them have much more upside than they showed in 07. So the Red Sox have a great shot at making the WS again. I could see it.

they have a shot but i think the angels will make it. their pitching is good and will come around. plus unexpected injuries slumps and other good teams will get in the soxs way. it seems like a possibility but i think something will get in their way. plus the indians r a 3rd starter away. either angels or indians will block sox
Coletrain said 11/10, 08:44 PM
You mention injuries and slumps. That happens to every team. That's a part of baseball. But the Red Sox have the best and deepest rotation in the AL, they still have a killer line-up that scores plenty of runs, and Papelbon in the back of the pen. No team is more well-rounded with pitching, hitting, young and old, than the Boston Red Sox. The only think they really need is another set-up guy. And maybe an outfielder.

i think the sox are the favorites right now but i have a gut feeling that something will go wrong. they will (dare i say it) beat the yankees and win the al east. thats easy too see. angels or mariners in the west. indians in the central. wildcard will be detroit, or 2nd place in al west. one of those teams will knock the sox out. i say indians or angels. their pitcing is really good. plus if the angels get arod there automatically the favorites

Yeah, the Angels and Indians have really good pitching. But the Red Sox have great pitching. Everyone saw that this postseason. The Red Sox pitching performed best under pressure in the big games. The Angels have never pulled the trigger on a huge deal(besides Vlad) so I don't see why they would pay $350 million for A-Rod. And the Red Sox are always players in the FA pool too. The Red Sox are the best team in baseball and they have the best chance of making it again this year. I can see it happening.

Report Offensive CommentIf the Indians can pick up a pitcher to complement Fausto and CC, plus a left fielder to replace Kenny Lofton, they should be the AL favorites.

Report Offensive CommentLets say the Indians get:
Livan Hernandez for the rotation
and....Cliff Floyd or Geoff Jenkins.....they would be better....adding some nice veteran pieces...

Report Offensive CommentColetrain,
Who says the Rockies have to go on another run like that to make it to the playoffs and World Series? I mean, in the 2nd half, they were 2nd in the NL in scoring (and just barely behind the Phillies) and first in team ERA in the NL...I mean, they're a young team, they have all their key players coming back. They may not sign their catcher, but they're expected to sign Matsui...even if they don't, Barmes moves in...the rest are all there. Even if they trade Atkins, as speculated, they have a stud 3B waiting to take the job and run...I mean, there's no reason to think they can't be even better next year...they finally put it all together in the 2nd half...why not keep it going?

Report Offensive CommentWow, watching'all TD is like watching Sportcenter...I little blurb about the NL team, and the rest focusing on Boston and New York and how the other powers in the AL may or may not be able to contend...all with the focus square on NY and Boston...
I mean, seriously, how many national games did the yhave this year, cause the Rockies had 1 before the playoffs....and that was the one game tiebreaker with Philly...
