The Mets will win the World Series because they are about to get really deep, they have already re-signed backup catcher Ramon Castro and are planning to sign Yorvit Torrealba. Also, they are planning to get extremely deep pitching if they acquire Dan Haren or Joe Blanton.

Please tell me you are kidding. Teams have not started signing and trading, so its really hard to look at next year already. But I would still take the Red Sox and Angels over the Mets. No one knows how the offseason will unfold, what if Torrealba stays with the Rox? or what if the A's tr ade thier pitchers elsewhere? You are already losing Tom Glavine, and your pitching is already extremely thin to begin with, not to mention the bare offseason market for pitchers. If you get players via trade, you will have to give something up. Phil Garner once said, in order for a trade to be good, it has to hurt. You have to give up unwilling pieces for either Haren or Blanton.

The Red Sox, thoguh Im not saying they will repeat, and am just using as an example, arent relying on the offseason. Thats why they would be considered a favorite. They have young pieces in place. They dont need the market like the Mets do.

I get where you come from, but you have to understand what I am saying. The Mets already have a few good prospects, veterans, and stars. What more do the need?

Starting Pitching - Pedro, John Maine, Oliver Perez and Mike Pelfrey

Relief Pitching - Billy Wagner, Duaner Sanchez and Joe Smith

Position Players - Carlos Delgado, Carlos Beltran, Jose Reyes and David Wright

They have talent and good managing, they should be heavy contenders even after the collapse.

And when they obtain players like Blanton or Haren, who are they going to trade? If they get them, can they still contend with an eager Phillies team on the market? How is Pedro going to do throughout an entire season? Will Carlos Delgado get out of his all-season funk? How will Duaner perform after being out for AN ENTIRE YEAR?

There are too many questions for the Mets. They're a good team. But they need too much. The Red Sox, Yankees, Indians, and even the Angels are all better off than the Mets right now. And they arent even in the same league. The Phillies look like realy contenders, espically picking up Lidge, who was amazing last year. They have talent, true. I wouldnt go as far to say they have god managing. Randolph's sucess could simply be partailly due to a pretty good overall team. But when that team struggle's, we see what kind of manger he can be (a pretty mediocure one at best).

Your points are true, but questions can be answered. When they are team are entirely different. This will happen to the Mets, and they will win the World Series

PS the Angels aren't better than the Mets

The Angels are deffinately better than the MEts. They have a much better pitching staff and a much better bullpen. They have offensive questions, but they still execute the best small ball in the entire MLB.

The Mets questions will be answered? If its THAT easy for a team to answer their questions, why dont the Mets win everyyear? If these types of questions are THAT easy to answer, why are there still teams that havent even won a World Series. You are simply a hopeful fan. You should try being more realistic, there are less letdowns :).

But one point I didnt stress enough, if the Mets get better via trades, it wont be simply handed to them on a silver platter. The Mets would still have to give up A LOT for a noticable change. Dont think the A's arent eyeing Milledge, Gomez, or Pelfrey. Billy Beane knows how to cheat teams for deals to sway his way. Is Carlos Silva going to answer your pitching woes? This next year isnt your year. Sorry. It will go to a team thats better built, a la the Red Sox or Angels, or another team not as heavily dependent on the market.

Losing Tom Glavine is actually a good thing...lol

Mets do need pitching in the worst way..

November 14, 2007  06:51 PM ET

I understand what it is to be a fan and want it bad for your team, but this is an absurd assertion.

November 14, 2007  06:51 PM ET

sorry, the sox already won it!

November 14, 2007  07:24 PM ET

"PS the Angels aren't better than the Mets"

Yes, they are.

November 14, 2007  07:32 PM ET

Did anyone state a YEAR the Mets would win a World Series?

November 14, 2007  07:48 PM ET

Jim, with his first statement about resigning their backup atcher and going after a "this year free agent", im pretty sure he well implies this upcoming year. Otherwise he wouldnt have stated players that have contracts that expire past this year.

November 14, 2007  07:54 PM ET

This hurts me to say as a Met fan, but I have to vote against us winning the World Series. As a fan, I believe it can happen but based off of dudeman's reasoning....no.

Is Pedro going to remotely healthy, let along ready for a deep post-season run?

And Pedro/Maine/Perez/Pelfrey can't compete with Beckett/Schill/Dice-K/Wakefield/Lester/Papelbon

Not even close.

November 14, 2007  09:21 PM ET

Look, I've openly said the Nationals are your 2013 World Series champs...as for 2008, well...
Sorry, NOT the Mets. Talk to me in March, when spring training starts.
Next topic...

November 14, 2007  09:29 PM ET

The Nationals are likely going to be returned to Montreal by 2012 under a warranty clause.

November 15, 2007  10:41 AM ET

where does he say?

"this year free agent"

since you put it in quotes, I figured it was up there, but alas, I don't see it...

'Teams have not started signing and trading, so its really hard to look at next year already. '

Well, they've started trading and signing...

dude man U GOT JACKED UP

November 15, 2007  06:04 PM ET

enderandrew, those rotations actually *are* pretty close. I'll take Healthy Pedro any day of teh week (though I concede an edge to Beckett), Maine v Schill is a fair matchup, Perez v. Dice is also pretty close (k/bb, hr/9, etc), and Pelfry v. Wake could also go either way. I'll give an edge to the guys in the tougher league, but I wouldn't bet money on any one of those matchups either way.

November 15, 2007  06:07 PM ET

Also, I agree that Paps is a ridciculous closer, but my point was starters v. starters

November 15, 2007  06:36 PM ET

he never said this years free agent, but he implies it with yorvit, i put it in quotes not because he said it, but because its a term i said on the spot.

i used the term of a "this year free agent" to describe toreallba

did you seriously have trouble deciding WHICH YEAR dudeman was talking about? If you did, im sorry your parents dropped you when you were a child.

November 15, 2007  06:37 PM ET

and right now, the majority of teams are just discussing and negotiating, which the exception of about 4 or 5 clubs, with the most moves any team has made is two

November 15, 2007  06:39 PM ET

jim, im really glad you scoped out that problem. i really dont think this TD could have advanced itself with the confusion that dudeman was creating.

November 15, 2007  10:22 PM ET

at first, you know, I was just joking...you know, like WHAT year are they going? Cause definately not NEXT year, you know...kind of hacking on the Mets...kind of like when someone says 'The Packers will go to the Super Bowl this year 'and you say, only if they buy their tickets now'...see what I mean?

but then, you know, you had to go and comment on it...you should lighten up, seriously...some people just can't help being Richards I guess...
