I know Mandell did this, and I'm sure it has been done before, but it is still a good debate. I'm taking college ball.
School traditions - In the NFL, franchises close down, move town, free agents leave, change mascots and uniforms left and right. Stadiums don't last, but school fight songs remain.
Every game matters - Yes a 6-6 team will play in the Poinsietta Bowl, but if you want to win the title, you can't sneak in as the sixth seed, backing into the playoffs. Lose one game, and you're likely out of the entire picture. Show up and play every game, because every game matters. There is more excitement during the regular season, because NCAA football has the best regular season of any major sport.
The passion - Watching senior day for the Cornhuskers last week was incredible. The team wasn't very good, but man did the players show up for senior day. These players aren't paid, and they have to go to school, but they lay it on the line for the passion of the game, and it shows. When you're in the stadium, you feed off that. Randy Moss is exciting to watch in the NFL, but he plays when he feels like playing,

NFL is ALOT more exciting, you have pros who are proven, exciting rookie's, and great franchises. One thing I don't understand is how you say the NFL doesn't have traditions. Ever heard of the Cheesheads in Green Bay? Or those J-E-T-S fans in New York? How about "Who Dat?" in New Orleans.
The NFL has plenty of tradition. Franchises rarely move. There is always a good NFL debate while College Football has to many teams, and is very confusing. Have you heard of the New England - Colts rivalry? Or the Eagles - Cowboys?
Also, every game in every sport matters. If the Eagles lose their game against the Dolphins then they might not make the playoffs, the Dolphins won't be 0-16, and the Dolphins will have to lose more games to get the 1st pick in the draft.
Oh, and their is PLENTY, maybe even to much, passion. Ever seen a Colts - Patriots game with the intense pressure to win and make a fanbase proud. Players show up. Like the Jaguars upset of the COlts last year. Plus, not every player is like Randy Moss. 15 lateral plays is a 1-1 billion chance. Did you see the Jets multi-lateral play last year?
P.S. Did you see the Steeler's title run? Great stuff and passion.

Who Dat? Never even heard of it. Wearing a cheese head doesn't compare to the "Tunnel Walk" in Nebraska, or Dotting the "I" at Ohio State. I get goose bumps every time I'm in the stadium for the tunnel walk.
And you say the NFL is more exciting? Have you watched the Raiders? Or the Dolphins? Or the Chiefs? Or the Jags? Or the Titans? Hell, 80% of the league is pretty mediocre right now. I'd much rather watch Oregon play Arizona State (and I don't even care about the Pac 10) than watch the 49ers stink it up against Miami.
People keep saying the NFL has better athletes, but that doesn't make it a better product. College games more often have exciting plays, exciting endings, etc.
And you're saying that every Dolphins game is exciting because they need to go 0-16 to get a draft pick? Dolphins games are snore-fests. In college, lose one game, and your entire season may be over. College games are more tense, more exciting because of this.
As for amazing plays, there are tons of them every year in college. In the NFL you don't see plays like Flutie completing the hail mary. These plays happen in college.

First if you read my last post correctly it said that every game is important. Next, there are so many college football teams that there are bound to be great plays, but in the NFL it's a select few - most of whom have mastered the postion they play. What about superbowl night? I get chills just watching the superbowl. Oh yeah, did you only want to mention the bad teams? What about the Colts, Cowboys, Patriots and Steelers?
When a kid is growing up they don't hope to be a USC star or a Ohio State star that is just a platform to what they really want to be - a NFL star.
Speaking of "Who Dat?" if you don't even know one of the most popular chants than why are you trying to argue if you don't have the facts and details straight?
enderandrew said 11/15, 09:56 PM
80% of NFL teams stink, and many of the televised games stink in the NFL. There are plenty of bad college teams, but the televised college games are often better.
And who gets hyped up for the Super Bowl other than the fans of the two teams playing?
There is a reason tons of people only claim to watch the game for the commercials. You never hear anyone say that about the national title game.
Name one NFL game that has been as exciting as say the Texas-USC title game, or Oklahoma Boise State?

You said that before, these are pro teams they represent a state/city their games have to be televised - it's a multi-billion dollar industry. Real sports fans get hyped up for the Super Bowl. That's because top industry's don't advertise in games that aren't going to draw more than 15 million+ viewers. That's about how many people that voted for Sanjaya on American Idol.
Oh, did you catch that Colts-Patriots game a couple weeks ago, or were you to busy waiting for the new AP polls to come out? That was a game for the ages.
Plus, what's with the 15+ bowls?

When you're done with this one try. Nascar is not a sport or soccer is dull. Those haven't been done to death either.

key factor here, that one college Div. 3 team had like 18 laterals to win the championsip! that play was amazing

Oh boy...each has its own merits, but its harder for me to root for a school I never attended than it is for me to holler at a cities team I have never lived in...each has its merits, but I have to go with the NFL...
But I love college basketball and not so keen on the NBA....
and I like the MLB and not NCAA Baseball...
Wierd...haha.

Omaha has the college world series here, and Nebraska's ball park in Lincoln keeps winning the award for the best college park in the country, so I watch plenty of NCAA baseball here, though it isn't that big in most parts of the country.

It's like the NASCAR in New York City debate...it just doesn't fit.
And like I said, I love my UCONN basketball...of course, I have family roots there. I have family roots at UGA. But I am not a big fan of NCAA football...though it was cool to see UCONN get its first ever national ranking (18th was the high...only been Div I for six years).

It is *so* college football:
Fewer games, and every single one matters.
You've got 120 years of tradition.
The teams don't go moving around at will, and the players rarely do.
Nobody refuses to play while they hold out for more money.
You've got the live music.
You've got hot, athletic ,girl-next-door cheerleaders instead of bleach-blonde silicone sex-bombs who don't know an offense from a defense.
You've got 90% of the kids who know they'll never make a single dollar playing the game, but do it for the love of the sport.
You've got the annual championship controversy.
You've got the Rose Bowl parade.
Honestly, it's not even close.

Both made valid points.
For me comes down to the fact that I am generally disgusted by most top pro athletes (some seem like decent guys, but most seem like jerks). They make a fortune to play a game and still act like J***offs. I will follow a few pro home teams I grew up with out of tradition, but I really don't care as much about how they do, and I could care less about the rest of the pro teams.
