My vote goes to Daniel Alfredson. Yes Spezza and Heatley have more points but neither have the 2 way game or leadership that Alfredson brings to every game. He is leading the league in goals and game winning goals in the playoffs as well!
TheDeity said 05/15, 08:34 PM
Alfredson is having a nice playoff stretch, but in no way should he be given the Conn Smyth trophy. It is difficult to even make a case for him to win it on his own team. Spezza and Heatley both have more points and assists while only trailing slightly in goals. Meanwhile Ray Emery is leading the goaltending with wins and shutouts and with a great save percentage to boot. Meanwhile, Ottawa should not even be favored to win the Cup. The winner of the Ducks/Red Wings series will likely win the Stanley Cup and thus likely have the Conn Smyth winner on their team. I favor the Ducks currently and I believe that Chris Pronger's influence on the defensive zone make him deserving of the award.

Not sure if you have seen Ottawa dismantle the best the east has to offer or not, but they will be well rested whenever Detroit and Anaheim beat finish beating each other up. Take a poll of any writer that covers the team or any of the fans and Alfie is definitely the MVP of that team so far.
TheDeity said 05/15, 08:55 PM
It is certainly legitimate to view him as the MVP of his team thus far, but it far from clear not to mention it is easy to hold his production against him when he has players of the caliber of Spezza or Heatley on the ice with him. Al their offensive stats are jumbled with Alfredson. Chris Pronger's continual leadership and defensive prowess is surging the Ducks through the playoffs. He is altering the way opposing offenses play their game in the zone. His physical skills and leadership are second to none. Niklas Lidstrom continues to do the same in Detroit in complete control of their defense and is next in points after the Ottowa trio. There is not sure thing how long either series will last yet, and either way this is the playoffs, skaters won't be affected by whether they have five or two days off. The bottomline is Alfredson has too much competition from his own team to be considered the favorite at this point.

Early obviously, but I think if you poll the experts in hockey right now, Alfie and Lidstrom would be the favorites. Now if Anaheim can come back then Pronger/Niedermayer will cancel each other out.

We are arguing on our own merits, not on the voting of the ???experts.??? Alfredson is a great player, but it is difficult to say that he is more worthy than either of his fellow line mates. Not only does he have less points and assists, but the line all together only has a plus/minus of 5 despite having a total of twenty goals. None of them contain the physical intensity to get it done on both ends of the ice. Despite being in a losing effort, last night Chris Pronger showed why he is the heart and soul of the Mighty Ducks team. He led them with passion and intensity throughout the course of the contest. You can make a case for a few other Ducks to win the award, but I don???t see any nearly as compelling as Pronger???s. Lidstrom is the runaway obvious choice on the Red Wings to win the award if they take the Stanley Cup. Alfredson simply is not the MVP of the playoffs right now, and if his team does win it all, there is plenty to debate as to whether or not he deserves it. On another note, anyone see the Niedermayer/Prgonger hit on Holmstrom? Beautiful hockey.

Oh by the way, I excluded Buffalo since there is next to no chance they are winning this series. It will be a minor miracle if they send it to Game 5 after their Game 3 performance.

I think it'll be someone from Anaheim
Probably Getzlaf because he's been playing amazing
Although I'd like Selanne to pick up his game
And IF Wings win it'll be Lidstrom or Hasek and I agree with the Sens choices

Alfie is a man on a mission but the only reason Ottawa is beating up on Buffalo is because the Sabres lack strength and forechecking.
Anaheim's Checking Line of Pahlsson, Niedermayer and Moen are fully capable of shuting down Spezza, Heatley, and Alfie.

Did you see the supposed best checking line in the league (Madden, Pandolfo and Brylin) fail vs. Spezza/Heatley and Alfie?
Anaheim is in tough to just win this series v. Detroit.
