Michael Vick should do no more than 18 to 24 months behind bars for the crimes that he committed.

First off I am getting sick and tired of wishy washy people who love someone one minute and then turn their back when something bad happens. People in the ATL and throughout the Country Loved watching Mike Vick play football because you never knew what was going to happen. Its amazing to see how so many people want the max for this guy because of a mistake that he did. People should look into the mirror and honestly say that while they may not have killed a dog, there are things that they are not proud of and could be local, state or even federal crimes also. Fighting dogs is wrong and tourturing dogs is wrong but maybe Americans priorities when it comes to domesticated animals are wrong. There have been test done where that it is shown that the majority of people paid more attention to a isolated puppy than an isolated child. That is ridiculous. Put Vick in jail for lying, transporting dogs, fighting and torturing dogs, and financing the operation. Don't try to take the man's life away. As sad as it sounds, tell me, In the eyes of the American people, would it have been "better" if he fatally injuried someone in a car crash? That's saddening.

Why not take his life away, he took away all of those dogs life away when he put them into fighting situations.

Just because he is WAS a role model does not mean that he should recieve a lighter sentence. He needs to be in Jail for a long time. He took those dogs life. he lied, he transported dogs to dog fights and would torture these dogs if they did not die.

First off you repeat what I said in the tail end of your argument. I don't think that he needs any special treatment. Think about how many lifes you have taken away. Think about it. Look at insects who are minding there own business but if their in you home, you go and get the Raid and kill them, Right? What about a roach, or a mouse, rat running around your house. Should you recieve a federal indictment because you took away alife form in your home or are those lifes not important enough? Oh think for a minute. What does the circus do with animals that they use and they get too old? Think. What about hunting and killing deer in the woods or hunting any animal for sport? Everyone does not use the animal for what is intended. What makes a DOG life more important than any other LIFEFORM? Because we like em and they cant tell us that were wrong when we talk to them? Tell me that you have never ever killed and animal or put an ant under a microscoop or put salt on a snail and then your right, take away his life. Keep living and whenever someone drives their car going slightly over the limit, tell the police officer that you want the max. Or are DUI with injuries OK?

Vick is going to jail for a very long time. he should not get the amountof time you specified because he is a no good dirty criminal who likes torturing and killing dogs.

If Vick wasn't famous then their would be know question that he get full punishment he paid for dogs to be killed and took part in legal torturing of animals

November 20, 2007  04:48 PM ET

There was a case of a group of high school kids setting a raccoon on fire and all kids were tried as adults and received prison sentences why should Vick receive anything less he committed multiple cases

November 20, 2007  04:49 PM ET

wHAT vICK GETS IS GONNA HAVE A LOT TO DO WITH HIS ATTITUDE.
Whatever he gets...He is supposed to get...Just like Bonds...A little humility will go a long way!!

November 20, 2007  04:51 PM ET

Because they are animals, and people get less time than he is facing for killing people. There is something wrong with that. What Vick did is wrong and he should be punished but lets get our priorities straight here people.

MJ, I won't say that I ws ever a Vick fan but I enjoyed watching him play. I have every right to change my mind about someone based on new information as to the character of a player I may follow. I am betting there are quite a few OJ Simpson fans from the 70s that have changed their minds! It isn't hypocritical, its common sense. If I have a friend and find out that he is committing atrocious crimes against innocent animals or any other heinous crime for that matter, eh will no longer be a friend.

It is indeed a terrible thing when someone spends more time with their pet than their own children. They need their head examined, no doubt. The fact that some idiots do such things does not justify Vick's actions. In our household, our pets are cherished members of the family. Of course if it is necessary to choose between a pet or my child, it will be my child. Fortunately we are able to see to the needs of both.

Vick deserves the prescribed penalties for his actions, no more, no less.
No one is looking to "taking the man's life away"! If that is indeed what happens, he need look no further than the nearest mirror to identlfy the only person responsible for that.

"Because they are animals, and people get less time than he is facing for killing people."

You're clueless. Vick faces a max of 3 years. The minimum for murder in almost every jurisdiction in the country is 20-life.

November 20, 2007  04:59 PM ET

That women who shot her preacher husband while he slept and took her kids on the run was out of Jail after 6 or 7 months I foget excatly. Cases like that happen all the time. Vick doesn't deserve more time that she got does he.

November 20, 2007  05:01 PM ET

Again I say Vick deserves to be punished, but not more than someone who committed cold blooded murder.

November 20, 2007  05:03 PM ET

I believe she was a victim of domestic abuse and was convicted of aggravated man slaughter, not murder. Apples and oranges, man. I don't think those dogs were beating the ^$*# out of Vick every night and subjecting him to emotional abuse.

November 20, 2007  05:07 PM ET

Then leave don't kill while he sleeps, obiviously pre-meditated murder, I don't go for this emotional and physical abuse crap, that's what police are for. And good luck MJ, I did a throwdown about this a while ago and got killed. I had some of the same points as you. Here is the link if you are interested http://www.fannation.com/throwdowns/show/5288.

Coach I see what you are saying. I thing that some people are using Vick like he used the animals. Anyway that you look at the situation or crimes that he committed, he should be punished. But for everyone to seem so perfect and act like their you know what doesn't stink makes me a little uneasy. I live in the south and I will kill a bug with no hesitation or any animal that dangers me and that's the last options. But I know that I have been driving over 70mph in a 70mph zone and could have gotten some time in prison or a hefty ticket, but do I really deserve that same price for going 71 as of a person going 100 running from the cops? Not in my opinion.

November 20, 2007  05:12 PM ET

I know that it is very likely that I lose this TD but I don't care soooo much about that. I want to get this off my chest and let people across America know how I felt.

November 20, 2007  05:15 PM ET

And for the record, I am not a Vick fan and could care less about him personally but in general I think this country is far to obsessed with the fair treatment of animals, when there are so many other more serious problems that need addressed. But everyone gets mad when something happens to a dog. What about rodeos, where they tie the bulls testicles to make them jump and chase and rope cows, that can't be pleasant for those animals. Why is it okay in that case, but if it is a dog it is wrong.

November 20, 2007  05:18 PM ET

i never liked vick....never supported him in the NFL...never thought he was a good QB...at the end of the day it is a punishable offense of up to 5 years in jail...so why shouldnt he be convicted the full sentance? becasue h played in the nfl? wrong...dude going to jail...and he wont come back to the nfl because his A** hurt too much

November 20, 2007  05:35 PM ET

godsmackfan0619, please reread what you wrote.

That was a horrible comparision. Vick killed the dogs, underfed them, and tortured them, both emotionally and physically (yes you CAN emotionally torture an animal dammit).

Rodeos do not kill those bulls. They do not torture them, they do not underfeed them. Most of them live a full, healthy life and die at a ripe old age.

And those dogs were defenseless. It's not like they could just stage a revolution and get rid of Vick; this is the real world, not the fantasy world of Animal Farm. There's not a lot you can do when the guy is 10x+ as big as you and has tools that he can use to hurt you.

November 20, 2007  05:41 PM ET

Has Vick even APOLOGIZED?!? SINCERELY? I haven't heard it. I don't care who Vick is or if you're a fan or a hater, this is a crime. Yes, I've made mistakes that could've gotten me time if I'd been caught, but because I wasn't caught is no argument that he should be let off. The state could've charged him as well and with something like up to 5-6 counts at 8 years each, he COULD have been looking at prison till he was an old man. WHY the state didn't charge him I'll never know because he ADMITTED to what they alleged in his response to the federal indictment. Bottom line, fighting dogs is a crime, as is killing them. And then to kill them in such a heinous fashion by throwing them against the pavement? Why not at least kill them HUMANELY and put a bullet in their head? Personally, I think anything less than 5years is too little for these crimes.

November 20, 2007  05:43 PM ET

The world is a sad place when killing something humanely is putting a bullet in its head.

November 20, 2007  05:45 PM ET

God smack

If u are going talk about a topic be EDUCATED!!! The man verbally and physically battered her......It's called battered womens syndrome......Vick wasnt abused by his dogs......

CCC

is correct, usually 10-20 years for murder but they DO GET OUT EARLIER sometimes because prison's are overcrowded......

Give Vick at least 2, maybe the max of 3 years and then let him face the state

November 20, 2007  05:45 PM ET

So tying a bulls testicles up against his free will is not torture. Chasing a scared cow on a horse and lassoing it is not torture. Double standards. These animals are just as defensless as dogs.
