He's already got 3 SB titles in this age of parity and is headed for a 4th this year, with plenty of time left in his career.

With a 2007 qb rating of 134 and a TD pace that appears headed toward shattering the all time single season record for passing TD's, he's having perhaps the finest single season on record as well.

What else is there left for him to do to prove he's the best ever? (Answer: nothing, other than finishing this season and winning that 4th ring)

Oh, cmon. Get a grip. Montana, Elway, Marino, on and on I could go. He's had great success so far. True. But SB rings aren't everything. If they were then Bradshaw would be one of the greatest.. and he isn't. QB rating is a completely overrated outdated stat. He's having a great year, but you are getting WAY too far ahead of yourself saying he's the best ever.

Agreed, rings aren't the only measure of a great qb because let's face it, Trent Dilfer's got one and probably could have won 4 more if he was on the 1970's Steelers teams. BUT... Brady isn't on a monster dynasty like that. He's won his rings in the age of parity spaced out over more years than Bradshaw and these other qb's you mention and he's done it with different skill position players over the years that have come and gone. The one constant (apart from Belichik) has been BRADY.

Winning games, the BIG games, is what football is all about. Marino won zero. Elway got two, but Brady will have double that by the time this season ends and possibly triple it before he retires. Montana won what, 4? Ok, so maybe Montana is up there, but convince me he's BETTER than Brady! Based on what? The legend? Brady will likely have more rings than Montana before he retires and Montana NEVER had a season like Brady is having in '07.

You want me to do Montana vs. Brady? OK, simple case of longevity. Brady "will likely" have more rings than Montana. Well, he doesn't yet. Did he have a season like 07 Brady? No. He just kicked butt for 15 years straight thats all. Winning is important for sure and is what football is about. But QBing is about something also. Could Brady lead his team to "The Catch" like Joe? Could Brady do what Elway did- "The Drive"? I'm not sure. Elway only won 2 SB but usually had garbage surrounding him. Put a young Elway on the Pats of the last few years and they would have won Every year's SB not just 3 of them. The sign of a great QB is one who is able to will his team to victory against all odds. I have not seen that yet much with Brady. I've seen him "tuck" his way to his first SB though.

So, assuming the Pats win it all this year, which they almost certainly will (and in fact could have the first perfect 19-0 record in the process), he'll have won as many rings as Joe in HALF the time and you're arguing that MONTANA is the better QB? Just because he played longer? Doesn't make sense.

If anything, Montana had better weapons around him than Brady (ever heard of a guy named Jerry Rice?), yet Brady's almost certain to finish ahead of Montana in Super Bowl wins. Advantage: Brady!

As for "drives", all of the Pats' SB's have been won by 3 points, ie, close games that required clutch play from Brady. He delivered, so what else can you ask of the guy??!?!?

What I'm arguing is SB rings are not everything to be a great QB. Montana didn't have Rice until 1985. Are you calling Dwight Clark a leap above Terry Glenn or Troy Brown? I say Advantage: Neither
Brady has been clutch at times, true. But nothing ever like "The Drive". I hate the Broncos, but I have to admit that was one of the most spectacular, awe-inspiring, entertaining QUARTERBACKING expositions ever put on. If Brady stays injury free for 6-7 more years, maybe this argument is different. Until then, He is not the Best Ever.

his td pace is only so high because that is all he cares about is getting in the record books him and belicheck are selfish the team around brady makes him as good as he is it's not all him

November 20, 2007  04:52 PM ET

Brady is able to do quick reads and is a pretty good passer...He has that gift. But YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!!!!

This kid can't carry Favre's jock strap!

November 20, 2007  04:54 PM ET

Otto Graham. 9 championships in 10 seasons. Let's see Brady top that.

November 20, 2007  04:56 PM ET

gonna whip out an "otto graham" on me, eh? Can we stick to the modern era, ramdrumaster? LOL.

November 20, 2007  04:59 PM ET

You said "best ever", so don't be a hypocrite and chastise for him playing the Otto Graham card.

November 20, 2007  05:07 PM ET

you guys all forget Montana, Elway. blah blah blah......they played like 16 or 15 years...Tom Brady is on his 8th season one of which he didnt even play so he has played 7 full seasons and pretty soon nobody will be able to fight it Tom Brady, when its all said and done will be the best EVER! FOEGET THE REST!~

November 20, 2007  05:07 PM ET

Favre is a tremedous physical talent, but look at his TD to INT ratio! It's a meager 1.54-1 while Brady's is 2.26-1. He hurts his team nearly as often as he helps them which is why he hasn't won as many rings as Brady.

November 20, 2007  05:08 PM ET

PLUS OTTO GRAHAM PLAYED IN THE EARLY AFL WITH A DOMINATE TEAM AND THE NFL IS WAY MORE COMPLEX TODAY THAN IT WAS EVEN 10 YEARS AGO.........

November 20, 2007  05:12 PM ET

"When all is said and done" , is not the TD. the TD simply states Tom Brady is the best ever. Which he is not.

November 20, 2007  05:20 PM ET

Again, the TD implies that Brady is the best ever; this is neither the case nor will it ever be so. Brady may crack the top ten or perhaps top five, but he's not the best ever. Period.

November 20, 2007  05:29 PM ET

It is still too soon to tell, but as of now he is no better than:

Montana
Elway
Stauback
Marino
Farve
Aikman
Young
Unitas
Baugh
ETC........

November 20, 2007  05:41 PM ET

These TDs need to be ignored.... then maybe we won't see them 3 times a week

Brady will go down as one of the greats in football... after Montana, Elway, Marino, Rarve, Aikman, Unitas, and many others.

Aikman? Im almost sure he hurdled Aikman a while ago.
