NFL Nation TD Tourney (Round #1): Most Overratted Hall of Famer

This is an easy one for me: JOE NAMATH

This guy got into the Hall of Fame due to one game. Hall of Fame should be a career achievement, but instead, Namath got in for calling his victory in Super Bowl III.

Here are Namath's "Hall of Fame" numbers:
1886 of 3762 for 27,663 yards 173 TD 220 INT
yes I said it, 220 INT and a 50.1 completion percentage! a 65.46 passer rating: 131st all time!

Remember that Super Bowl that is the reason he got into the HOF? How many TDs did he throw in the game? 0. Yup, not a single TD. So its not like he had the game of his life on the big stage.

Namath is one of the 23 quarterbacks enshrined in the HOF during the modern era.

Namath is ranked 45t all-time for career passing TDs. Hardly a HOF worty stat.

Interested in knowing some of the people above him on that list?
S. McNair: 174
K. Collins: 174
R. Gannon: 180
Ken Stabler: 194 (very similar numbers yet not in HOF)
John Brodie: 214
David Krieg: 261

Thats just to name a few that are above him and not in the HOF nor considered HOFers. There are about 30 more above him that aren't in the HOF that I don't have time to name.

NAMATH is the MOST OVERRATED HOF member EVER

Considering you picked the obvious one, I'll go with Larry Csonka. In his career, he ran for 8,081 yards- fewer than LaDainian Tomlinson, Shaun Alexander, Jim Taylor, Earnest Byner, Herschel Walker, and Ahman Green, just to name a few. He only had 64 touchdowns, good for 31st all time, behind Stephen Davis, Priest Holmes, Edgerin James, Pete Johnson, and Ricky Watters, just to name a few more. In fact, the only reason he is even in the HOF is because of the '72 team, where he wasn't even the main RB, he had to share with Jim Kiick and Mercury Morris.

Larry Csonka was not just the running back for the Dolphins...he was also the fullback (a position that gets fewer carries than the TB)

Csonka was one of those few players in the history of the game to change the way the game was played. He was one of the biggest RB in his era.

Csonka also won 2 Superbowls to Namaths 1, and of course, Csonka was a catalyst in the Dolphins perfect season (which at the time of this TD is the only in the history of the league)

Csonka only fumbled 21 times in his 1891 carries, Namath had over 200 interceptions.

What you are forgetting is that the Zonk put up pretty respectable numbers in the postseason and superbowl.

In his 3 superbowls, he had 297 yards and 2 TDs.

All in all, he had 225 attempts for 891 yarda and 10 TDs in 12 post season games

Csonka has more TDs than OJ Simpson and Sayers, and more yards than Sayers

do not vote until he argues please....thanks!

It's gotta be Namath.. but of course, I'll wait for him to argue.

Gale Sayers... true his career was shortened greatly by injuries... but still come on... not even 5000 yards rushing nor 50 TD's...

This is funny, for some reason when I saw this TD, I thought it was about the FanNation HOF. Thought there was some controversy in this TD and in the comments...

Ah, but I was pleasantly surprised...

It is 5-1 and I haven't even posted an argument. I hate **** like that.

I will give my vote to Esco just for the simple fact I have seen this same td like 4 times and Joe Namath is the easiest choice. So for lack of thought I give it to Esco. But DC great argument against Csonka just wish you had picked some one other than the obvious choice.
