1. Player had to have played 3 years for that team
2. Player had to have played between 1982-2007
3. 10 Man Team
4. ONLY stats from that team count.

I have Da Bulls.

C- Cartwright 8.8ppg 5.3rpg 1.5apg
F- Grant 12.6ppg 8.7rpg 2.4apg
SF Pippen 18.0ppg 6.7rpg 5.3apg
SG- Jordan 30.7ppg 6.2rpg 5.2apg
PG- Ben Gorden 17.8 ppg 2.9rpg 2.9apg

Bench

C- Chandler 7.0ppg 7.6rpg 0.9apg
PF Oakley 12.2ppg 12rpg 2.8apg
SF- Deng 15.2ppg 6.4rpg 2.2apg
SG- Artest 13.2ppg 4.4rpg 2.9apg
G- Reggie Theus 19.5 ppg 3.6rpg 5.7apg

No surprise here, I will be choosing the L.A. Lakers.
STARTING FIVE
G- Magic Johnson- 20 pts, 11 ast, 7 reb
G- Kobe Bryant- 25 pts, 5 reb, 5 ast
F- James Worthy- 18 pts, 5 reb, 3 ast
F- Bob McAdoo- 13 pts, 5 reb, 1 blk
C- Kareem Abdul-Jabbar- 22 pts, 10 reb, 3 ast, 3 blk

BENCH
C- Shaquille O'Neal- 27 pts, 12 reb, 3 ast, 3 blk
C- Vlade Divac- 13 pts, 9 reb, 2 blk, 3 ast
F- Sam Perkins- 15 pts, 8 reb, 2 ast
F- A.C. Green- 12 pts, 8 reb, 1 stl, 1 blk
G- Byron Scott- 16 pts, 3 ast, 3 reb, 1 stl

Now, let's compare. At center, I easily have you beat with Kareem vs. Cartwright. At power forward is where it gets tough, McAdoo was an amazing player (although his prime was before he got to LA) and was nearing the end of his career when he spent the last few years with the Lakers which is one reason as to why his stats drop. Pippen vs. Worthy is really a tough call and I will debate that in my following arguments. You obviously have me with Jordan over Kobe but I have you with Magic and my bench as a whole is stronger than yours (in part to Shaq's monster numbers). It was a tough call putting Abdul-Jabar over Shaq Daddy though. More to come...

Ok if KAJ is starting then I have to go with Tyson starting- He is athletic enought to run with KAJ and slow him a bit-

Shaq is going to have his hands full with Bill- who is going to treat him the wat he treated Ewing- he's here for defense and is really going to Limit Shaq- Center is still you- but not by the margin you think- and as someone who has watched more KAJ games than 90% of this site- KAJ is overrated by his numbers- and a bit lazy but you still take this spot.

PF- Loved Bob- but he is thin and didn;t like to play half court to much- and I'll put Oak on him and make him want to go to the bench QUICK- Horace Grant vs Divac - pretty even matchup there I'll call that one a draw because Divac wasa VERY good passer- his numbers are down because Riley forced him to stop kicking back out so much.- But I take PF pretty easy.

SF- THe one reason I didn;t want to use CHI is I HATE PIPPEN and matching him up with Worthy makes me sick- I mean stating in print that my favorite player loses to one player I hate just stinks. I'll take Deng over Perkins- with the power down low I have Perkins could not create his own Shot range to get in his face even giving up size- more below

You think Tyson Chandler could stop Kareem Abdul-Jabbar? He'd be lucky if Kareem only put up his averages in the game. Then you have Shaq against...Cartwright? That would be another easy matchup for me. Either way you look at it, I have the edge at the center position.

See, the difference between my frontcourt and yours is simple. My big guys can play offense and defense. You don't have a big guy who averaged more than 12 points per game. I have FOUR, including two that averaged in the mid-20s.

My Four Big Guys- 75 pts, 36 reb
Your Four Big Guys- 41 pts, 34 reb

There you go. I think it's pretty clear that my frontcourt would have a field day against guys like Cartwright.

Well, you already admitted that Pippen was no match for Worthy so I don't need to argue that, but Perkins was definitely a better rebounder than Luol Deng. Of course, the Bulls right now are terrible rebounders. Honestly though, how well would the 6'8"-220 Deng match up with the 6'9" 235 Perkins? Obviously, Sammy would manhandle Deng underneath and that's where I think I have the edge in this one.

You may have a slight edge at power forward, but I make up with it at center and small forward.

Ok first off- yes I do think Bill can hold shaq- why do you think the Bulls beat the Knicks YEAR IN and YEAR out in the playoffs?

Cart ate Pats's LUNCH - and in his prime he would do the same thing to Shaq.

and as far as Tyson/KAJ

Let me ask you a question- why do you think KAJ started the skyhook- becasue at 7'4 he stopped being able to dunk? Think it might have something to do with 7'4 Mark Eaton and players like 7'2 Rik Smits and Parrish popping up and beating on him down low?

Tyson can run with KAJ- I still lose at Center- but not NEAR by the amount you think.

and speaking of Paint Fear- do you really think Perkins is getting down low with Cartwright down there? He's staying as close to that 3pt line as possible meaning his rebounding totals go to POT- while Deng has always been SF so his numbers might even go up- with the slower perkins there.

So to recap
C-You
PF- Me
SF- ME (dammit)

and now the backcourt- do we really need to even do this?

Nope- we split that you can;t handle Jordan and I don;t have a PG to take Magic-

and to tell you the truth with only Scott on the bench (cause for some reason you had to have the flopper on there)

Maybe Kareem's development of the skyhook was a result of better defenders. But it worked for him and became his bread & butter move. That's good, IMO.

Okay, let's say Perkins or Worthy drives and gets down low by getting by either Deng or Pippen. There's a thing called passing. That's what they'd do to either Kareem, McAdoo, Shaq, or Vlade for the easy layup. It's simple basketball. My big guys would simply dominate yours underneath. I showed you the averages. My team would destroy yours on the glass, especially.

Now, MJ over Kobe isn't by this fantastic margin that everyone will think. Kobe Bryant is actually a very, very good defender. He's a 7-time All-Defensive Team selection, five of which as a first-teamer. He was also the youngest player to ever be named to one of those teams. I'm not saying he would shut down Jordan or anything, I'm just saying that His Airness wouldn't put up 35, 40 points on us.

Now, Ben Gordon has no shot at even coming close to stopping Magic on the defense. He would simply post him up all night long.
Magic: 6-8, 215
Gordon: 6-2, 192

The positions you have edges in aren't as big as the positions I have edges in. My team would win.

Interesting selection. I thought you would go with the Celtics. Anyways, I don't have time to do this now but I will...eventually.

December 1, 2007  10:00 AM ET

The number one reason Sam left Dallas is to get out of the paint- number 2 was to win.

I'll do the backcourt in Arg 3.

December 2, 2007  09:14 AM ET

I'll have my argument up sometime today.

December 2, 2007  11:39 AM ET

Good TD, really good teams on both sides, I like the Lakers squad a bit more, good arguments, I will give David his final argument to try and take it home, so I will check back in.

December 2, 2007  11:43 AM ET

What about my final argument? Haha.

December 2, 2007  08:06 PM ET

I don't think that anyone can stop that Laker roster GOAT put up.

December 3, 2007  02:08 AM ET

With Ron on Kobe I can put Jordan on Magic-

watch the 91 finals sometime and see how that works out (hint someone got his first ring) and if things get too bogged down in the halfcourt- I can bring Reggie off the bench and he can create his own shot- I can even use him at SF and go

Jordan, artest, theus, pippen chandler and just run you all day

You going to counter with

Magic, Kobe, Worthy, Divac and who

Scott? Nope -worthless in trans
AC or Bob- Even worse and McAdoo is going to have FITS with Pippen

You are going to be hurt in the open court

So Pos wize

C- You
PF- Me
SF- ME
SG - ME
PG- You

And I still have Jordan and Artest- all else fails I can make Ron-Ron and Shaq Fight and then you are toast- Divac would faint and KAJ would "turn an Ankle"

and Jordan would rip your heart out.

December 3, 2007  08:09 AM ET

I'll have my rebuttal up soon. I can't wait to make this last argument.

December 3, 2007  04:14 PM ET

David, why don't you have John Paxson or Steve Kerr? They were both part of the team that did win 6 championships....

December 3, 2007  04:19 PM ET

Shaq + KAJ = Unstoppable. No way a team with those two guys plus Magic and Kobe lose.

December 3, 2007  04:19 PM ET

Vote to G.O.A.T. and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Sorry NC but you couldn't come up with a better point guard for the Bulls then Ben Gordon??

What was Ron Harper not there long enough?

December 3, 2007  04:24 PM ET

The Lakers' team is stronger, if only because it manages to pick up the best from 3 or 4 generations of NBA players.

Shaq and Kareem is a deadly twin towers combo, and you can't argue against guys like Kobe or Magic.

But this would be a very interesting game; very interesting indeed.

December 3, 2007  04:25 PM ET

Oh, but great TD!

December 3, 2007  04:28 PM ET

Thanks, Hyped78. I appreciate it.

December 3, 2007  04:40 PM ET

Jerry Sloan was arguably the greatest Bull ever before MJ came along. Where is he on the list?

December 3, 2007  04:44 PM ET

TradeAngelos, they had to play at least 3 seasons for the team from 1982-2006 so no Sloan.

December 3, 2007  04:49 PM ET

Great TD, but gotta go with the Lakes.

December 4, 2007  05:32 PM ET

Good job, David. You gave a hell of an argument and probably deserved more than 2 votes. May we meet again...
