Hands down this has to be Adrian Peterson, rookie RB, Vikings. He missed the last 2 games & is still leading the entire league in rushing, still!!! This was a guy who was supposed to backup & split a little time w/ Chester Taylor. He's got 1,081 rushing yds & is averaging just over 120 yds/game! Even for a first round pick this is explosive production. He's averaging 6.4 ypc & has 9 TD's (1 receiving) in only 9 games played! He also set the single game rushing record too, as a ROOKIE!!! Now, I know his line is exceptional for the most part but c'mon, these numbers are sick & no one expected this, no one. He's also averaging almost 15 yds a reception & is ranked 15th in the league for RB reception yards with 220 & a 60 yd reception for a TD too. WOW.

Peterson is an impressive rookie, but he is a surpise in which way? I mean you cannot compare him to the Oklahoma AD. He got injured this year, kind of like he was the last couple years at Oklahoma. No surprise there!
Brett Favre
Randy Moss
Braylon Edwards
Tom Brady
Big Ben
Wes Welker
Antonio Cromartie
Justin Fargas
That is 8 guys who are more surprising than peterson I could have chosen
I chose DEREK ANDERSON QB CLEVELAND BROWNS
he has the Browns 7-4 with 22 TDS and only 11 INTs (ON THE BROWNS!!!)
He wasn't even starting opening day against my STEELERS!
Ed Reed Fan:4 TD'S IN ONE GAME said 11/27, 10:48 PM
Anderson has been quite a surprise, however, no rookie has EVER done anything close to what AP has done this year. He hasn't just been outstanding, he's DOMINATED the NFL in rushing from the get-go. Think about this again: he's been out the last 2 games & STILL leads the NFL in rushing. Former backup QB's that have started & done well are not that un-common: Steve Young, Dilfer, Roethlisburger, Delhomme, Rivers, Romo, Hasselback, Bulger, Kitna, Garrard etc. So why is it such a huge surprise ? Granted Anderson is having a great season but he's not DOMINATING like AP is. Anderson is ranked 11th in QB rating, 28th in completion %, 25th place out of 32 for least int's, and 5th in TD's. AP is # 1 in rushing yds & TD's. That's more surprising and impressive because like I said no one has ever done that as a rookie and what Anderson is doing has been done before. You're hinging alot your argument on the fact that he's a Brown but you don't mention how solid his offensive line is, how good his TE and WRs are, & he's got a rejuvanted Jamal Lewis pounding out yards. He's not doing it all by himself like you imply. Plus, the AFCN is weak this yr w/ BAL & CIN failing to meet expectations.
PSU Steelers (10-5) said 11/27, 11:36 PM
No rookie has done what AD has done? You mean like Dickerson set the rookie rushing mark of over 1800 yards? AD needs to play the remaining 5 games and average over 120 yards a game to match that mark. ya, I guess he is the most dominant rookie ever (not)
those former backup QBs you listed were backup as rookie's and then came in and did well. In fact, Roethisberger only served 2 games in his career as a backup. Dilfer didn't put up numbers that Anderson is putting up. Delhomme isn't doing so hot right now, is he? Rivers sat as a rookie...and so on.
i love how you point out Cleveland's amazing line but then claim that AD is dominating on his own. Like they don't have the best runblocking line and lineman in the game?? didn't ADs "backup" rush for like 160 and 3 TDs a couple weeks ago? So I would think that the line is the reason for the dominance, not AD.
Before Anderson took over the offense, the Browns were, well, the Browns. ANyone remember week 1 where they got blown out by the Steelers with Frye at the helm? Anderson is the reason for the turnaround and the reason why Edwards and that thug from Miami are havig good years
Ed Reed Fan:4 TD'S IN ONE GAME said 11/27, 11:56 PM
The season isn't over yet; I don't recall Dickerson missing any games his rookie yr so their yrs are pretty comparable. Also, if you would go back & read my 1st argument I DO give props to his oline, thanks. Not all the QBs I listed were backups for only their rookie yrs. Only Ben Roeth started at all as a rookie & that was because of an injury to Maddox (i was there). The rest like Young, Garrard, Kitna, etc. took at least 2 years b4 they started regularly & not because of injury to the starter. Rivers sat for 2 years before starting & you can't discredit Delhommes past accomplishments compared to now in order to try make your argument. Garrards numbers are right on par w/ Andersons & he was in the same spot except for 1 game Anderson didn't start and DG started from week 1 when Leftwich was supposed to be the man. You could have argued for Garrard too, the guys on fire! So if this happened to at least 2 backups this year how is it a bigger surprise than AP? It's been a long arse time since Dickerson did what he did & not anywhere close to as long since a backup did what DA is doing. Also, dont discredit how well PIT played week 1, seriously, they blew them out b/c of CLE's Def.

Gerrad plays for the Jaguars, Anderson plays for the Browns
The Browns were so bad last year, and all hope was lost, that they had to take a QB in the first round. So SURPRISE!!! here comes Derek Anderson riding in on a white stallion to take the Browns to the playoffs. Where is AD taking the VIkings if he is so dominant? They won't make the playoffs and they will probably even finish behind the Lions. WOw, big impact player there.
Anderson has over 1000 more yards passing than DG and 13 more TDs...how are they even comparable?
BY your logic, Marshawn Lynch and AD are comparable since Lynch only has 400 less yards and 2 less TDs despite missing time himself. And you know that Buffalo's line isn't nearly as good as Minnesota's
And AD isnt leading the league in rushing TDs...Addai and LT have 9; AD has 8.
Anderson took a team that always drafts in top 5 to (as of today) making the AFC playoffs. AD has took the Vikings to? not the playoffs in weak NFC

How can a rookie be a surprise?
We have no idea- absolutely none- of what type of player they can be in the NFL. I never say a rookie is a surprise- cuz truthfully, you can't tell.
I'll wait for his pick- but I'm not a fan of the AP pick...

i can't believe you wouldn't vote for me since in my last TD about fantasy football surprises i voted AP # 1 and you voted for me and backed me up w/ a comment.
P.S. I didn't vote for myself yet FYI, get a life, thanks!

This TD hit the community page so I didnt need to follow your stench to find it, FYI.
I didnt vote for you because your opponent hasnt posted an argument numbskull. Once he does, then I will cuz AP was a fantasy suprise, but as far as being a solid runner as a rook, no suprise. Dude is like top 5 fantasy player before injury, of course I voted for you in that other TD.

Ed Reed Fan:4 TD'S IN ONE GAME | 11/28/07, 12:14 AM
Report Offensive CommentAdrian Peterson running wild behind big ol Steve Hutchinson and Co. is no big surprise. I mean freakin Chester Taylor was a 1,200 yard RB behind that line the year before.
bIGROCKHOGG | 11/28/07, 12:20 AM
Report Offensive CommentRunning Back is the most likely spot for a Rookie to excel. There was no questioning Peterson's talent, only his durability. Considering Anderson was no more than an afterthought even once the season actually started is amazing. The consensus was Frye would keep the spot warm until week 8 or 9 when the Browns were eliminated then Brady Quinn would step in.
Instead the Browns (with a much easier finishing schedule) could actually WIN the AFC North and are a virtual playoff lock. No one, and I mean not even the most diehard Browns fan could have predicted this. Anderson by a landslide.

T-fo-you're right nobody would have perdicted what the Browns are doing but they are doing this as a team not just Anderson. Peterson by a landslide.
