This is a constant debate and I want to clear in up. Who has the toughest division? The AFC North. Thats who. Any takers?

How about the AFC South?
you got Colts (Def. Super Bowl Champs.) and Jags ( they are way underrated!) on their way to playoffs

Titans, who although they have lost 3 in a row have been playing much better than the Bengals,
(yds per game) they are 9th in O and 5th in D...thats solid

and the Texans are 6th in O and 8th on D,...may surprise some but they are playing somewhat decent

South combined record - 28-16
North - 23- 21

Ok but lets take into account that every team in the North would cut each others thraot. Its the division with the biggest hatred and rivalries. Even the fans want to kill each other at division games. 3 teams in the North have higher than .500 for wins at home this season and one has exactly .500 record for wins at home this season. If you look at division wins, the numbers are kind of straight forward, whether they are one of this worst teams in the NFL at this point (the Bengals) when it comes to division games, its hard to beat them. As of superbowl wins, I think your division has like 2 in its history while the North has like 6 or 7.

1. i dont know about fans killing each other but if you're talking about rivalries...how about the NFC East, or even NFC North
2. I dont see how history is a factor on toughest division today, maybe if it was toughest division ever, it would be more appropriate.

3. Lets break it down through head-to-head matchups
Colts vs Steelers - Indy's offense, well we all know their capability there and on D sure, Pitt has #1 but Indy is right at #2 so i dont see a clear advantage of Pitt, on the contrary Colts win on O......EDGE COLTS

Jags vs. Browns - although the Browns have a more potent offense, I'll give you that, when we go on D, the Jags are 23 on D however they allow only 17.7 pts pg, thats good for 7th in NFL, while the Browns are dead last in yds allowed and dead last in pts allowed.....i give EDGE JAGS

Titans vs. Bengals - Bengals also have a more potent offense by a big margin, however on D its the opposite Tenn is 5ht in yds allowed and have a balanced run and pass D while Bengals is 28th...this would be unpredictable, which would dominate Bengals O or Titans D, they played last week and Bengals took better so....I'll be fair and rule this BEngals win

alright lets compare best vs. best (steelers vs. colts)

Follow this link and look at these records.
http://www.nfl.com/history/randf/records/team/gameswon

Pittsburgh tops most of them. Indy doesnt. Indy performs good in the Reg. season against pittsburgh and decent in the playoffs. (the playoffs leading to superbowl XL). remember steelers vs. Colts?

I admit jags are good. they probably would beat the browns. However the Browns are only one game behind the Jags.

Well the Titans got slaughtered by the Bengals and we will stop there.

You also say the south combined record is 28-16. But that however has alot to do with the colts record. I would like the colts and Steelers to be in the same division.

I know this is off topic but I just want to get it off my chest. the AFC east is so sorry. Its the easiest division in the NFL by far.

I'll be brief
1. Again you're bringing in stats from history, it doesn't mean anything when defining the best division today. History would be another TD
2. Colts and Steelers in same division is a whole other TD
3. AFC east is so sorry is a whole other TD

Instead of making many comments on various issues, try concentrating on just one to make better arguments

ran out of space sorry

November 29, 2007  08:31 AM ET

NFC EAST and I'm a Pats fan.

November 29, 2007  08:38 AM ET

NFC EAST has 3 out of 4 teams with losing records. Its little league over there!!!

November 29, 2007  08:41 AM ET

JH, i gotta go for a while, will answer you in the afternoon, sorry!

November 29, 2007  08:42 AM ET

jhartle - NFC East has 2 teams over 500 and 2 teams 1 game below

Boys - 10 W 1 L
Giants - 7 W 4 L
Skins/Eagles - 5 W 6 L

Get your facts straight!

November 29, 2007  08:44 AM ET

i agree NFC East would be my other option however colts andd jags are 9-2 8-3 while the other two are also one game under, so i chose the the latter

November 29, 2007  08:45 AM ET

I think the NFC East is the most balanced (teams all close in talent/skill) but the AFC South is the toughest.

November 29, 2007  08:47 AM ET

South definatly hands down are the toughest.

November 29, 2007  09:06 AM ET

That link about the Steelers up there is pointless. Your talking about who has the toughest division right now. What does facts about the Steelers 10 and more years ago, have to do with the Divisions now. Thats not even the same steelers team as now. nor coach.

Textbook noob opening statement.

November 29, 2007  10:02 AM ET

He didn't say "best", he said "toughest". But the toughest is the NFC East. Just having Eagles and Giants fans is enough for me.

November 29, 2007  10:21 AM ET

The East is the toughest to beat.

Ever heard of the NFC West? How about the AFC West? How about "New England Patriots?" How about "football?" Are you familiar with that term?

Ghost Hunter: You were just able to make a much better argument overall. Your opponent missed out on some good opportunites to argue/make his point. Vote to GH!

November 29, 2007  02:15 PM ET

i'd agree that there may be the most hatred amongst teams. but the bottom end of the division this year is just sorry.

probably the nfc champs and the 1st wild card team come from this conference...no to mention they beat up on eachother more than whatever conference your choosing...
