Les Miles made the right choice by saying that he wanted to go back to LSU.

Whether that was true or not, Les Miles was smart to say he wanted to stay at LSU. It had earlier gotten out that he would go to Michigan, but he then said that was false. Regardless of where he ends up next year, he has a SEC title game to worry about. Next week, he will probably have a BCS bowl game to worry about. Miles can't afford him and/or his players getting distracted by the Michigan job.

I am going to have to say he made a bad decision. Sure, LSU is in the SEC Championship this year, but do you really expect them to be there every year with the competition level in the SEC?

Fact is, Miles knows he cannot compete year in and year out in the SEC. The Tigers won't be able to go undefeated every year. In the Big Ten, however, different story. No conference championship to deal with, and at Michigan, his main compeititon would be Ohio State. The Big Ten is essentially Michigan and Ohio State on top with Wisonsin, Illinois, and Penn State nipping on their heels.

Also, he has a clause in his contract saying he can go to Michigan. If he has that, why would he be making the right choice in going back to LSU. The right choice is to go to Michigan. The spot has his name all over it. He just has to take it.

Miles wants to be at Michigan.

Bad choice coming back to LSU.

First off, I was saying that it was smart of him to say that. Anyway, if The Big Ten is essentially Michigan and Ohio State, then why did Wisconsin finish with a better rank last year than Michigan, and why is Wisconsin ranked in the top 20 to Michigan who is not ranked? And why did Wisconsin beat Michigan? The fact is, especially with Henne leaving after this year, that Wisconsin is better than Michigan. LSU, will be ranked next year, and have a shot of making a BCS bowl. Michigan doesn't.

Well it's a little too late to take back what you said.

Miles has yet to sign the new contract anyway.

It's not a smart move if it's not what you want. Miles has been the heir apparent at Michigan for some time. It's where he wants to be. Not doing what you want is not a smart move.

And ok, maybe I listened to the Around the Horn guys or Jim Rome a little too much about the Big Ten, but even with Henne leaving, the Wolverines are still in good hands. Ryan Mallet was undefeated (I think) as starting quarterback as a freshman.

If Miles wants the chance to win consistently, he should go to Michigan. Michigan plays in a weaker conference where they actually have a chance every year. It's harder to compete every year in the SEC.

Michigan, hands down.

I'm not taking back what I said, I'm just pointing out that you argued the wrong point, but that I would go along with it anyway. After the LSU win last night, Miles is secured to be in a BCS bowl. Why would he leave that position to go to an unranked team?

Miles would leave that position to go to an unranked team because Michigan still has a better shot than LSU. LSU has to play the grueling SEC schedule over and over and then play the SEC Championship Game, while all Michigan has to do is make it to the Ohio State game unscathed. We have seen the last few years that the Big Game has turned into the unofficial Big Ten Championship Game.

If Miles had made the right decision, he would have "followed his heart" and gone to Michigan. Why stay in the SEC where they haven't had a back-to-back champion since 1997-1998? Wouldn't it be easier to repeatedly win in the Big Ten? I don't know what Miles is thinking. He wants to be in Michigan and he will be in Michigan soon.

Better decision to go to Michigan.

Miles is staying at LSU only because Michigan lowballed him.

December 1, 2007  04:36 PM ET

It depends. If he is staying, which I believe he is, it was easily the right thing to do, getting mad and yelling out his point that he was staying at LSU, dammit!

LOL, but anyway, if he really IS going to Michigan... BAD choice calling that press conference.

watch him go to michigan at the end of the season. he was just saying he wasnt going because he didnt want his players to get all worried and play terrible.

December 1, 2007  04:51 PM ET

I know, that was what I was saying. If his players got distracted, they would lose.

December 1, 2007  04:59 PM ET

I would not rule out what bosox said, Miles is not above saying that he will stay to fire up his team, then taking off when Michigan comes calling. Notice every report says "Miles DID NOT SIGN this new deal at LSU."

I was shocked today to hear about the extension. How can you pass up your dream job? In the back of his head he will always be wondering what if.

Trade: Michigan hasn't given an offer. They would know better than to low ball him. I don't believe that for a moment. Salaries are to be negotiated, you just don't accept the first offer, and there is no way all that took place already.

Michigan is known for not paying their coaches the big bucks, which LSU is willing to pay, which is a big reason Miles stayed put. He will excell no matter where he is but I feel he would do a better job with Michigan with his aggressive play calling would put michigan into the NC hunt every year hes their.

December 1, 2007  06:40 PM ET

Vote to Yankees. Personally, I think Les is staying because of the money. LSU can pay him more than Michigan.

December 1, 2007  07:10 PM ET

I think that Les Miles is a geat fit for LSU.

December 1, 2007  07:16 PM ET

Vote to Yankees. I want Les Miles nowhere near the Big Ten.

December 1, 2007  07:50 PM ET

same with esco i must agree...les belongs nowhere near the Big ten, because he would be like callahan going to nebraska. he would try and install a new offense and then that would drive michigan to the same fate as nebraska.

December 1, 2007  08:51 PM ET

Good choice having press conference... It was a total mental game and I think it helped.

December 2, 2007  12:34 AM ET

Even if it turns out to not be true, it was good for team unity.
