His articles on the end of the magazine truly enlight saving the best for last. O'Reilly's works are often humorous, and they shed light on the dustier, forgotten corners of sports (like the rich b-ball team in a jet and the poor team who beat them 3-0 who drove seven hours in mini vans) or, he shows us a bit more of his creativity (posting a message on a model's back) or, he tells us great stories about the museum containing lost body parts of star athletes, the troubled kid who could make every foul shot he shot, the parents who argue and cuss at the refs, and the reasons why or why not greg oden should stay at ohio state. to say the least

O'Reily is a relatively humerous and interesting author, but he has nothing on the likes of Peter King, Dr.z, and Darren Elliot. I always make sure to check out all of their work before I look at O'Reily's. Peter King is especially talented out of the group always delivering solid writing, creative wit, and a dash of personal opinion when needed. O'Reily currently tries to make too much of a spectacle out of himself to be the best writer for SI.

O'Reilly is definatley the best writer, he does not try to speculate himself too much. He is simply too good, as writers, no one can even compete with him. Look, he took a huge risk with his Nets charity, but his continuing success after just shows that people still read HIM because no matter what he writes, it is worthy to be published in every sports section of every newspaper in the U.S.

How do you claim that he does not try to make a spectacle of himsekf when he writes an entire column of him hating his watching the NFL draft. Peter King is one of the few writers that can truly hold my attention throughout an entire column and causes me to come back to read every week. I hardly find regret if I miss an O'Reily riff.

oh my god neither of you should even be talking about this, his name is Rick REILLY, not O'Reilly, come on now! But i definetly agree with this argument, Reilly is far and away the best sports writer in the world, let alone just sports illustrated. Sorry, as much as I love Peter King, he's too one dimensional, and his stories just aren't as compelling as Reilly's. Reilly is one of the rare sports writers who has mastered humorous, sophisticated, AND heartbreaking, emotional sports writing. he can do all three very well. no question, he's the best
