1. Cowboys
2. Patriots
3. Eagles
4. Raiders
5. Steelers

Damn... I missed something.

Anyways, I put the Patriot fans at number one because of this: all of those bandwagon fans. Especially the ones who didn't even think about the Patriots until 2004. I have several of these in my family/friends and I love them, but when football season arrives, they are the most know-it-all, arrogant bunch of douc#es you'll ever meet.

Eagles fans are two, because, well look at them. They're the most profane, barbaric fans I've seen. Hell, even in SI, they made an article about how much NFL players, and everyone hates them.

I give the nod to # 1 slightly to the Cowboys because their success in almost each decade which produced an arrogant fanbase, even when the team isn't awesome they're still arrogant and when they're good like this year, my god, look out. They reflect the attitude of their players past and present (irvin, t.o., etc.). They've been less tolerable for a lot longer than the Pats fanbase, which is more of a recent thing, especially this year.

What you said about Eagles fans missed one crucial thing: the E-a-g-l-e-s chant, which, when rarely spelled correctly by their drunk fans, is excruciatingly annoying (like the J-e-t-s one too) whether it's spelled right or not.

Lucky for me, I missed the Cowboys when they were at the top of the league.

But about the Steelers: I live in partly Steeler country. The North and West sides of the city are all Browns fans, nice, good hearted, kind, long suffering Browns fans (the only part of that sentence that was true was the long suffering) but the South and East sides are Pittsburgh fans. Unfortunately, I live on the East side, and half of my family, plus most of my neighbors and friends are Steeler fans. I have to deal with the "Browns suck!" "It ain't even a rivalry no more!" and the incessant waving of yellow dish rags in my face. When the Steelers are good, you better duck, because they have no problem in reminding you. When the Browns suck, you better duck, because they have no problem mentioning it every 12 seconds. When they suck, you better duck, because they have no problem bringing up last year's record. This is an actual conversation I had with my friend's dad:

"Browns suck this year"
"So do the Steelers"
"But we won the Super Bowl last year"
"But you're not going to this year"
"That doesn't matter, we won last year"

And that "Pittsburgh's going to the Super Bowl" chant... So damn annoying

sigh, i know all too well about Steelers fans, there are plenty in maryland due to when the colts left and people in these parts would rather chew their arm off than be cowboy, redskin, eagle, or any other fans so they became steeler fans. plus, when the steel mills closed and people moved down here for work they brought their allegiances w/ them.

Eagles and Raiders?

December 6, 2007  12:34 PM ET

Giants?

December 6, 2007  12:38 PM ET

If this isn't only about the NFL, how about the Yankees and Red Sox?

December 6, 2007  12:46 PM ET

Gotta be NE, With winning comes enemies.

December 6, 2007  01:28 PM ET

jsar,
people hate the Pats for winning and their fans for the constant crowing. Success breeds contempt.

December 6, 2007  01:49 PM ET

Pats fans are just frozen lollipops. Their shivering too damn much to be hated. Cowboy fans are plain yokel's

December 6, 2007  01:54 PM ET

I say the Dolphins. Maybe if the fan base gave the team some more support, they wouldn't be 0-12. I blame the fans for Miami's bad record.

December 6, 2007  01:56 PM ET

By FN standards any Pittsburgh team is the most hated.
I've never seen so many "hater" anywhere.

You put up a TD about Crosby and it OVER....you have no chance.
Ben...forget about it.
Pirates....We kill our own on that one..

December 6, 2007  02:07 PM ET

It completely depends on who you ask. First and foremosts, you will hate the fans of your teams most gitter rival. Then you will hate the fans of the team that is currently the most successful if it doesn't happen to be your team. Lastly, if there happens to be any contreversy around any particula team, the fans will be hated for sticking up for their team. It mirrors the cycle of succeess and failure of the teams.
I hated Pittsburgh in the 70s, San Fransisco in the 80s and Dallas in the 90s. I have always hated Al Davis so the Raiders are a personal mainstay, however, if I lived in the bay area, I probably wouldn't feel that way!

December 6, 2007  02:13 PM ET

Well in terms of constant bragging and homerism by fans on forums and in blogs, I would say the top five are (and keep in mind here I'm a Steeler fan):

1. Dallas
2. Pittsburgh
3. New England
4. Green Bay
5. Eagles/Jets/Ravens (sorry Ed)

The problem with Dallas fans is they have the biggest bandwagon of all time...when they are losing their stadium has plenty of fans disguised as empty seats. And as long as I'm on the subject of Bandwagons Patriot Nation, it was less than ten years ago that your sainted owner tried to pack your team up lock stock and barrel and move them to Hartford due to lack of fan support. It's easy to cheer for a winner. Be there for the tough times too - just ask any Browns fan.

December 6, 2007  02:14 PM ET

Vote to Ed by the way...Dallas is the worst.

December 6, 2007  02:41 PM ET

Raider fans aren't hated right now because their team sucks & their owner sucks

December 6, 2007  02:46 PM ET

Cleveland should be number one then the cowboys then the eagles

December 6, 2007  02:51 PM ET

It's hard to disagree that the Pats fans should be top five. We have MOSTLY the bandwagon fans to thank for that. It might be hangover from the 90s, but it seems that almost everyone is united in their hatred of Dallas fans. Vote to ed.

My top five

1. Dallas
2. Pittsburgh
3. Philadelphia (I changed my mind, they are top 5)
4. New England
5. New York Jets

December 6, 2007  02:53 PM ET

# 18

December 6, 2007  02:54 PM ET

Pats Fans on here are the cockiest

December 6, 2007  03:03 PM ET

My list
1. Dallas
2. Eagles
3. Jets
4. New England
5. Giants

December 6, 2007  03:03 PM ET

Hey, some Pats fans have been loyal since the days of Tony Eason and Scott Secules. Remember, NE used to be woeful, then hapless, then terrible, then marginal...

But I can see how non fans would be annoyed in recent years. Vote to the right though for the order.

December 6, 2007  03:03 PM ET

I never hated a team or fans. In fact, I use to go to Eagles/Giants games and wear my NY jersey. I always got a good laugh. I think they are the most passionate. I do think that teams that go on some long winning streak(s) are bound to make enemies and back in the 90's I remember a lot of people hating on the Cowboys. Fot that reason I go with #18.

December 6, 2007  03:04 PM ET

Raider fans aren't hated right now because their team sucks & their owner sucks

TorFan | 12/06/07

Agreed...no one cares about the Raiders....more people associate themselves as being members of "The Black Hole" than fans of the Raiders.
