You gotta believe that the Atlanta job is better. Basically, you're a few steps away from being a contender-- QB is a big piece to be missing, but you're in position to have a great draft pick and maybe pick one up. You would also play in a division that is not nearly as strong as the AFC East... face it, Tampa Bay is no New England. Your key players (Dunn, Horn, Brooking, etc.) are getting older but still have a little left in the tank, not unlike the Dplphins. You also would have an owner and GM with some semblence of football knowledge, unlike the Dolphins (Ted Ginn #7 overall???) The only thing I can even think of in Miami's favor is the nightlife... and maybe Ronnie Brown, when he's not injured.

I have to disagree strongly. Why? Because if it was such a great prospect why would Petrino leave and not even finish out the season to go to Arkansas where he won't have McFadden next year? Tell me that Ark. looks that great for him to leave in the middle of the season. And compared to Atl. I think it does right now. And as strange as this sounds, if the Dolphins go 0-16, the only way to go would be up. And you would have great draft picks, and you would be credited with helping them improve. And the AFC East is considerably tougher but if the Dolphins can get it together they can be good. Maybe not for a while, but right now I don't think the organization can be picky after an 0-16 season, or even a 1 or 2 loss season. Atlanta meanwhile still has egg on their faces from the Vick incident, and the curse of the Harrington bust is in Atlanta as well. And Petrino leaving mid-season? Right now, if I was looking for a job, I would certainly avoid the Falcon's organization which is a bit troubled right now. At least the Dolphins troubles are on the field, and these can be taken care of more easily than off the field issues. I really think the Dolphin's job is better for those reasons.

Face it, the Dolphins are not going to make the playoffs next year, or at anytime in the near future in the AFC East. You even said so yourself-- "Maybe not for a while". So you're saying that the Dolphins job is better because you already know that you're not going to win? Are you nuts? Maybe it's cool to go into Miami because you can't do any worse than Cam Cameron, but you REALLY can't do worse than Bobby Petrino. Go into Atlanta, make peace with the veterans, and don't quit in the middle of the season. That's how easy the job is.
Did you even look at the teams? This isn't 1984 anymore-- the Dolphins stink. Their secondary is horrendous... kind of like their O Line.... and really, can someone please put "Fragile" stickers on Zach Thomas, Trent Green and Ronnie Brown.
At least in Atlanta you would get a good owner, good GM, and a somewhat talented team.

NO I did not say that the Dolphins job is better because you don't know you are going to win. I said the Dolphins can be fixed. On the field woes can be taken care of with a good draft and giving the team time to gel together. And tell me Wayne Huizenga isn't a good owner? The coaching job at Miami comes with certain degrees of power not seen in the NFL. But again off the field issues are very hard to get rid of, and this team and this organization needs to settle out. Why would you want to coach there? So you can answer questions about Micheal Vick, Bobby Petrino, the quarterback situation? At least the Dolphins you know you have to improve everything on the field. A coach is better off at a great organization trying to improve a terrible team, rather than a confused and controversial organization with a less than decent team. Both teams will take a while to be good. Alge Crumpler's getting old to dont forget, as well as some others on the Falcons. Both situations are alike really. Its just less off the field distractions at Miami makes for an easier coaching job.
drarick9 said 12/12, 09:21 PM
The easiest fix is to win. Where are you going to be able to do that easier? Atlanta. I will concede that the Vick situation is a big negative, but look at the 2000 Ravens with Ray Lewis being arrested with that whole shooting incident. The Ravens went to, and won, the Super Bowl the following year. Or, take it to basketball and Kobe Bryant. He is accused of rape and basically plays NBA Jam-esque basketball (He's on fire!!). For you, yeah, maybe it's easier to take the Miami job because there are no questions about Vick or Petrino. I'd rather answer questions about those two than to answer about another terrible season in Miami.
By the way, "good draft" and "Miami" don't ever go in the same sentence together. Not since like '83.
Both teams need help, we agree on that. The Falcons need less help. Which is worse, your coach quitting and best player in jail, or having no distractions and going 0-16?
Good one man. We'll meet again.

Look at the Raiders. They won the AFC in 2003 and got smoked in the Super Bowl. They have been terrible ever since, they have gone through 3 head coaches and 4 wins so far has been considered a success? Yeah thats a successful season in Oakland nowadays. And Oakland has nowhere to look but up. Same thing with Miami. By the way, basketball doesn't really require much to be distracting therefore the players are used to it. I mean the NBA is a league of stars, and kobe is one in a million. And the Ravens? I don't care what you say with that defense there was no distraction on Earth that could stop that team. Trent Dilfer won that with them. Yeah Lewis shooting? Not a problem when Trent Dilfer is your starter. Besides that though, there is plenty for Miami fans to see in their future. The Falcons are lucky if they can go a week without having their starting qb arrested and another coach leave. Too much turmoil in Atlanta. This team has never had back-to-back winning seasons and why think things will look up? Maybe they will. But I stress that both these jobs are similar, but off the field distractions tip the weight.
Great Job, and we will meet again.

I don't know Anthony, Atlanta has maybe the nicest owner in football, as long as you don't get thrown in jail, or go on a radio show talking about your "dream coaching job" they are going to stick with you.
I am one of the few that thinks Atlanta should sign a QB and draft for other needs. They still have some great young players, and a solid D.
As far as expectations? Atlanta would be thrilled to have a winning season (they have NEVER had 2 in a row), Miami is home to the greatest team of all time (for now), and HOF QB's. The Dolphins want to be a contender, Atlanta doesn't want to suck.
that said, I'm holding my vote until someone wins me over.

Just because there are low expectations in Miami doesn't mean that it is a better job. Besides, if I were on the job market as a coach, I'd rather go to the team with the best chance, not the team that no ones cares about. Take that to baseball-- you're saying that the Florida Marlins job is better than the Yankees job because there are lower expectations? Nice try chief.

drarick- i hate to argue outside the boxes in tds. but actually personally without money being an object would talent not be the deciding factor in where you go? for example the yankees job comes with a lot of pressure, and needs experience. look at lane kiffin. young guy that took the raider job and is making a name for HIMSELF. Greg Schiano turned down MICHIGAN AND MIAMI to stay at RUTGERS! Tell me Rutgers is the better job. Nice try chief indeed. A coach goes where he feels comfortable and where there is less pressure and distractions. It is easier by far to coach the Marlins than to coach the yankees. make less money and have less talent, but you might be better off making a name at fla and moving up.
