I say Reed is the better WR.......And should get into the HOF before Monk does.

Reed made 7 consecutive PB's(88-94)

951 REC - 5th alltime
13,198 yds - 8th alltime
87 REC TD's - 10th all time

2nd alltime in Super Bowl REC behind Jerry Rice
3rd alltime in Super Bowl REC yds behind Rice and Lynn Swann

Reed was one of the best Possesion WR's in NFL history....The thing that made him great, was his ability to stay healthy, while goin over the middle all sesason long. From 1985 to 1994, he only missed 5 games.....5 in 10 sesasons....

Friggin Sweet. I love brining Art Monk back into the discussion. First let's just look at stats:

940 Receptions 6th all time
12721 Yards 12th all time
13.5 Average
68 Td's 31st all time
34th in yards from scrimmage

Monk was one of the best receivers in the NFL period. He retired as the NFL's all-time leading receiver. He holds Redskins records for career receptions (888), catches in a season 106 in 1984, catches in a game 13 and career receiving yards. He played in four SB's and won three. He retired with the record for single season receptions record and the most consecutive games with a catch 183. (man I swear I can still picture it)

He did everything as a receiver and he blocked (and did it probably the best out of any receiver) His skills were diverse. Monk also averaged 5.3 yards per rushing attempt. (63 attempts) The amazing thing about Monk's success was that for a good period of his career, he had two other pro bowl receivers lined up with him. Gary Clark and Ricky Sanders.

Monk has the rings, the stats and the respect of all he played for and against. Monk has been eligble longer and should already be in. He should go in before Reed.

Sure 5.3 per att is great for a WR. Thats why Reed's 6.7 per carry is more impressive, on only 75 carries. Monks 13.5 per catch is impressive. But so is Reeds 13.9 per catch.

So, they both went to 4 SB's....Right?? SO where is Monk on the all time list for WR's in SB's??? He is behind Reed in yards and rec's, in both SB apperances, and all time as well.

You talk about the "other" weapons he had to line up against...Like Clark and Sanders. But do you forget that reed played oppistie JAMES LOFTON??? As well he had a top 10 RB of all time in his back field....and yet some how, he managed to acrue all these stats.

Reed is the better WR. Monk may have won more SB's...But between monk and reed, give me reed

Yes they both went to SB's, but Monk won when he went. Do you know why Monk didn't get that many catches in the SB's? Gary Clark, and again Ricky Sanders, when you have three PB receivers on the same squad at the same time, and you still distinguish yourself, that shows how good he was. The fact that the Skins could run as well as they did only reiterates, what Monk brought to the team. Not only did he make plays to open up the run but they also ran to his side of the field a ton, because of his blocking ability. John Madden once said during a game, look at Art Monk he looks like a Olinemen with his jersey pulled out, you only get that way if you block like he did. Don't discount his blocking. 9 times in his career he exceeded 50 catches, he went over the middle, he couldn't be stopped on short yardage receptions. I discount nothing that Reed did in his career, nothing. He should be in the Hall. However Monk has been elgible longer, and the fact that Irvin went in before him shows, the media's clear distain for him. He never ran his mouth, he always made the play, he did everything he was asked to and more. The only knock against Monk is that he didn't self promote.

Ricky Sanders NEVER, let me say this agian.....NEVER.....Made a PB. I hate to tell you this Bombers, but check your stats...I'll admit that Clark did make 4 PB's.....

But Reed made 9 PB's.....Lofton made 8 PB's........So thats 17 between the Reed and Lofton, and 7 for Monk and Clark....

Look at Monks production in the SB's he was in...

VS Buffalo - 7 REC's for 114 yds 0 TD's
vs Denver - 1 REC for 40 yds 0 TD's
Vs Oakland - 1 REC for 26 yds 0 TD's
vs Miami - DNP

Look at Reed's production in the SB's he was in...

Vs Dallas - 6 REC for 75 yds, 0 TD's
vs Dallas - 8 REC for 152 yds, 0 TD's
vs Washington - 5 REC for 34 yds, 0 TD's
vs NYG - 8 REC for 62 yds and 0 TD's

So, those 4 SB rings that Monk has......He contributed 9 REC's. NINE...Thats IT. Not very HOF type numbers are they??

Look I get what your saying (Ricky had the stats to be a PBler but they couldn't name three receivers from the same team) However you fail to see that SB numbers just don't count as the only thing that quailfies your for a HoF career. The fact that Monk was out there meant the other team had to account for him, this made them pick their poison. You want to get run on? You want to get thrown on choose, now that you choose passing, who do you want to stop? Monk, however him being there gave the other receivers the numbers they had. I make this statement without any hesistation. Without Monk Clark doesn't put up the numbers he did. Without Monk this team would have had a hard time passing the ball. IN A RUN FIRST OFFENSE with two other very good receivers he still put up those numbers.

Walter Payton had how many SB TD's? ZERO and he's in the hall.

Did Andre have a HoF career? YES
Did Monk? YES
Was Monk Elgible first? YES
Should Monk be in? YES

Then the answer to me is quite clear, if both WR's had HoF careers and were first round balloters the same year, I would put Reed in first. However since Monk has been elgible for all this time he should go in before Reed.

This should be one of the best TDs on this site in a long time. 2 of the best arguing for 2 of the best, each arguing "their boy".

top 10 RB's of all time, in order???

How can ANYONE argue that Monk was better than Reed, and in their argument show that in every category he was worse? I've said before that although Monk WEARS three rings, he actually earned one. The other two he was just on the team. He didn't even play in one of the wins.

December 13, 2007  11:23 AM ET

The only reason i cant, is your PROFILE is PRIVATE......I cant see it, to challenge you
