Bobby Petrino, was his move good or bad for the Falcons??

Good.........

He obviously wasnt ready for the big leagues...The way he exited with three games left in the season showed that... The main reason he was brought in there was to handle Vick..With out Vick he did little for the Falcons..No one on that team gave him the respect that really he didnt deserve but like any college coach will tell ya bein a coach for men who play for scholarships is alot easier than ones who play for money..Money causes alot of problems ask Vick..So Petrino wasnt ready to be in that position..

Now the Falcons can try to get a coach that knows how to handle grown men getting overpaid for a/an unproductive team. And.it also improves morale on the team because they can just blame petrino not themselves for a poor season..

Last now maybe they can try to get Cowher or Shottenhimer (excuse spelling)..Which even as bad as the falcons are, a proven coach like them can make any under performing team play better...

Petrino cutting bait and running is very Bad for the Falcons. This is a team that was embattled from dropping Mora Jr. like a bad habit.

The whole premise of hiring Petrino was that he was going to be best for "the Future of the Atlanta Falcons". This was the same cliche' that Blank used when he dismissed Reeves.

The franchise was already reeling from the unexpected loss of Vick who was in fact the face and body of the team.

Now the Falcons are in shambles because their coach not only left, but skipped out in a sneaky fashion.

The players were contentious with Petrino. Hall and Crumpler were the most vocal about their dislike of the coach. Now they are ripping the same coach they wanted to drive out of the clubhouse to begin with.

This sounds like a "do it yourself" project that some top of the line coach like Shottenheimer or Cowher wants? No.

No. The treatment that the players gave Petrino, coupled with the absolute disaster that the team is in now does not make the team better.

Petrino needed to stick it out and work on winning over key players or getting them off the team, then the Falcons would have been stronger.

HMMM nice response......

But really Petrino wasnt ready to coach the NFL...I mean even if he waited it out hoping the rest of the team would accept them i dont think it would have mattered he was brought in for Vick..Petrino was gonna manage Vick like he did Brohm of Louisville..With out Vick he was really useless and it showed..Yeah it was bad that he left like he did but seriously he would have sucked anyways for the Falcons..What the Falcons need is what the boys did when they were just as screwed up..They need a Parcels to wrangle the team in and bring in players that will make the team win down the line in the Future..Case and Point the Cowboys 12-1 thanx to Parcels coaching previous years..Thats is what the Falcons need they dont need a college coach tryiong to prove himself...

The move is good overall for the Falcons....

Hey...let's not make this a TO vs. Keyshawn argument here. If we do, then I get to be TO...getcha popcorn.

My point is that Petrino may or may not have been ready for the pros. We will never know now.

Petrino should not have just sit back and say "I wish Dante and Agle would like me." Be proactive. Go out and win your team by sticking it out through a tough season. Then clean house and get rid of the malcontents like Hall and Crumpler.

My main point is not that Petrino was the best option for the Falcons. He was a bad choice. But what does it say about a franchise when a coach doesn't want to stick it out with a team and would rather take a *pay cut* just to get away from that team and its players? Not good.

Petrino's exit may open the door for another coach. But just like the Raiders, they will have to search high and low to find someone who will want a reclamation project of a team. I hear Art Shell is game...

Forfeited Turn

The truth is that Petrino could have stuck the job out and did his best to make the most of the last 3 weeks.

There were ways to sit down either now or during the offseason to either win over or weed out malcontents. Rod Marinelli's work in Detriot as well as Bill Parcells previous work in Dallas are models of this idea.

Petrino had experience in the NFL. This is sometimes forgotten in light of his previous experience with Louisville among other colleges. So it's not like he was summarily called up to the majors like some greenhorn rookie.

But let me state my case in a different light. It is immaterial as to whether Petrino was NFL HC material or not. We won't know that.

His quick departure sheds a negative light upon his character and besmirches the Falcons franchise.

Blank's ownership savvy is now brought into question with catastrophic departures of 2 of the most important members of his business.

Cream of the crop HC's will think twice before choosing to even interview with the Falcons because of the disarray that has been left by Petrino's departure.

This is why I say that Petrino's departure was a liability for the Falcons, not a benefit.

gaaa too slow!

Vote for Oso. Petrino leaving was terrible for the Falcons. This team has been abandoned far too many times in recent years, and all of this has attributed to some of the culture around that franchise.

Plus, I do not believe that Petrino was not ready to coach in the NFL. The man has already coached in the NFL as an offensive coordinator for the Jaguars. He already knew what an NFL locker room was before he accepted this Falcons position. What Petrino has was an epiphany that Saban and Spurrier had before him: Why get my behind kicked by men playing for money, when I can boss around some kids playing for scholarships.

Oso you get my vote with the better argument, but you are WAY off.

Atlanta has one of the better owners in football, they have been banged up, and Petrino ran that team into the ground. Crumpler and Hall are young an VERY talented, so Petrino "running them out of town" wouldn't do much good.

Petrino treated these guys like kids, even Dunn spoke out about poor treatment from the coach, Dunn is one of the most stand up guys in football.

Vote Oso for much better argument, and I can't vote for someone who skips arguments. If you are gonna start a TD, finish the damn thing. Oh, and Dallas being 12-1 has NOTHING at all to do with Parcells, who took virtually the same team to a 9-7 record last year.

But Petrino leaving is the best thing for all parties concerned. In light of the comments coming out of Atlanta in recent days it wasn't just a handful of players that weren't buying what he was selling, but virtually the entire team.

So you back TO then CCC? :) You have to admit that little tiff was hillarious. Almost like watching two kids call each other out on the playground, "ESPN producers let Keyshawn go. Try to make it on our roster as a 3rd string WR!...You're lucky these people are holding me back."
