What is the best player rivalry in basketball history?

The best player rivalry in basketball history was Bill Russell against Wilt Chamberlain. These players were fierce competetors. They met numerous times in the playoffs and often in the eastern confrence finals. These were the 2 most popular players in the 60's as well. Everyone looked forward to watching there games because they loved to see those 2 great players go at it. Bill would involve his teamates while playing great defense and getting rebounds. Wilt would score 20-40 points a game. These 2 different styles of play also made them fun to watch.


Wilt vs. Bill is great but the best one is definitely Bird and Magic. Magic is one of the most exciting players in the history of the game and Bird was one of the best and classiest. every year, these dudes would battle in the finals and put 100% into each and every game. basketball was in a real dark place in the 1980s and these two pulled it out with their epic rivalry that will be remembered for decades.


did i mention WILT CHAMBERLAIN how was he not exciting you never knew how many he would score a game. These 2 also were in the finals together many times putting out 100%. Bill Russell was a magnificant player to watch as well. Also since Bill Russell won mainly ever year you never new if this was going to be wilts year that made it very exciting to watch


not knowing if it's someone's year or not is not nearly as exciting as both teams having an equal shot. also, like it's been said, Bird and Magic's rivalry goes back to their college days where it was great. in the NBA all it did was mature, grow, and blossom into the greatest rivarly in basketball history and one of the best in sports hisotry period.

Magic v. Bird > Wilt + Bill. both were great but Magic/Bird saved basketball in the 1980s.

I'll go with Bird/Magic only because Wilt/Russel was more about TEAM (which it should be) than individual effort.

well, even Bird/Magic was about teams because the Lakers and Celtics played in the finals against each other so many times in the 80s.

Bird/magic definitely wins this one. they played so much, were so good, and also disliked each other which is what makes a rivalry great.

This is a great throwdown. I will go with Bird/Magic just because they each had their moments to shine. With Russell/Chamberlain, Russell's team won every time.

bird/magic was alot better, it was war everytime they stepped on the court together, but they were frends off it, definatley a better one
