The Orioles got rid of Miguel Tejada because they had hints about his murky past with steroids before the "Report" surfaced. True or False & Why?

True. I believe that the Orioles had some inside information that propelled them to want to so desperately get rid of Miguel Tejada. Not that I was surprised by it, and it could just be sheer coincidence. But I just can't seem to think why they would get rid of otherwise. I mean the deal is kind of ridiculous. Really this is kind of borderline "Take him off our hands and we will take a lot of whatever you have." The Orioles received outfielder Luke Scott (average), pitchers Matt Albers(they could have found a 4-11 pitcher in their organization), Troy Patton(mediocre bordering on bad), Dennis Sarfate(only has played 16 innings in his career), and third baseman Michael Costanzo(a minor leaguer they just picked up from the Phillies in the Micheal Bourne deal not to long ago) for the four-time All-Star Miguel Tejada. I don't know but this seems very much like the Orioles just wanted Tejada off their hands. And to have it sealed the day before the Mitchell Report comes out? That is evidence enough for me that the Orioles organization knew about this.

False. I think they got rid of him because he was complaining and being annoying and just not being a team player. He wanted more money, didn't get it. He wanted to get out of Baltimore and he was getting old and I think that the Orioles got some good players for him. He just didn't fit that well in Baltimore and I think that the steriods thing had nothing to do with it. I think that they just didn't want him on their team anymore. I don't think the Orioles organization knew about this. Why would the Orioles organization know this, but not the Astros or any other organization? That seems a little weird to me. I don't think that the steriod thing had to do anything. Maybe they just needed him off their team because he was causing a problem. Plus, do you notice the Orioles are trying to trade a couple of their good pitchers also. I think that maybe they are going to get younger and get better that way. I just don't see how it is possible for the Orioles to know about the steriod thing, but not the Astros. That seems a little odd.

Yes but those additions are not that great. And Tejada has been like this for the team for how long? The day before the Mitchell Report? And why do the Astros seem odd? Why would they want to get him so badly if they knew. I'm not convinced that if he wanted out from Baltimore for some time which is the case then why would it not have happened at another time. After the report maybe? Because after the report no one would want him with the same vigor.

It just seems weird that the Astros wouldn't know about this MItchell Report and who hte players on it were, but the Orioles would? Just seems odd to me.

He could have wanted out for a while, but they just weren't able to trade him, and now they find out that a team wants him and they trade him.

Why did the Yankees re-sign A-Rod for a 10-year contract the day before the Mitchell Report? I don't think that anyone knew who was on the list, I think that it was just another day in the offseason. People aren't just going to not do anything because the Mitchell Report is coming out. Teams don't do anything on Sunday, and not much on the weekends because that is the time they want to spend with their family. On the weekdays is when all the trasactions are going to take place and that is what happened. Just another work day and another trade that happened. It has nothing to do with the Mitchell Report, it had to do with Miguel Tejada wanting out of Balitmore.

I beg to differ. First thing the Yankee's had A-Rod settled in for a while. That
just happened to be the day of the formal signing. And did you see how busy the day before the Mitchell report was.

"Miguel Tejada was traded to Houston and Aaron Rowand joined the San Francisco Giants as major league teams made a flurry of moves Wednesday, one day before the release of George Mitchell's report on drugs.

Andruw Jones, Jake Peavy, Andy Pettitte and Kosuke Fukudome also were in the news, completing deals..."- Arizona Central Newspaper

So there you have it...lots of deals. Now which of those names sounds wierd? Andy Pettite? Really? Well the Yankees were one of the teams that did not have the inside track. Surprising? And Miguel Tejada was moved as well with all these other people. Don't tell me it was just another day in the offseason....

I also beg to differ with you. It was another day in the offseason because a lot of moves happened and that is usually what happens on a day in the offseason. I don't see how the Orioles would know the report, but the Yankees and the Astros don't? That seems weird. Plus, Jake Peavy was planing to sign with the Padres for a while, Andruw Jones was suppose to go to the Dodgers, they just finalized the deal, Fukudome was just a happening and Andy Pettitte was signed because he was planning on going back to the Yankees for some time. It was just another day in the offseason and that is why Miguel Tejada was traded. Because it was another work day, he didn't want to be in Baltimore, and the Orioles are trying to get younger players so they can rebuild, like the Marlins, and try to win a Championship as soon as possible. It wasn't because they knew the Mitchell Report and who was on steriods, it was because they are trying to get younger, he doesn't like it there, and another work day for major league baseball.

Well, getting rid of Tejada isn't something that Baltimore has been wanting to do only this season....it's been the last couple...I can't believe the Astors traded for him...pretty sure the old GM wouldn't have touched him and definately wouldn't have given up so much for a player who is, now, a pretty average player at best...

I still can't see any evidence that would support the theory that he was traded cause they knew his name would be on the report...I mean, c'mon, didn't most people think he'd be on the report? I know I did...

I honestly disagree I wasnt really thinking Tejada's name would be on the Report. But I dont think the Orioles traded him because of that...I think its coincidence. I do agree though the players the Orioles got back arent very good..but I disagree on the main point that the Orioles made the deal because of the Mitchell Report
