For batters, I used BA, OBP, SLG, OPS, TB, HR, RBI, and Runs Created to judge them. By those comparasins, Posada beats McCann 7-1, Pena beats Tex 7-1, Utley beats Cano 7-1, Rodriguez beats Wright 7-1, Ramirez beats Jeter 7-1, and Ortiz beats Howard 5-3. It looks like I narrowly win the IF. I could argue that Jeter's average defense beats Ramirez's god awful defense, but the disparity in offensive production is too large.
For the outfield, we obviously push since we took the same guys.
In pitching, Peavy and Sabathia are essentially a wash since they both won CY. I guess it comes down to Webb and Johan.
I used W/L, ERA, K, BB, IP, H, WHIP, K/BB, K/9, AVG/OBP/SLG/OPS against for them. Johan wins 8-6, taking K, BB, H, WHIP, K/BB, K/9, AVG, and OBP, while Webb takes W/L, ERA, IP, SLG and OBP. It's a narrow win, but Johan still wins.

I'll give your infield the slight offensive advantage but my infield negates that advantage with better fielding and baserunning. My infield have combined for 95 stolen bases this year compared to only 45 for the AL East infield. Mark Teixeira is arguably the best fielding 1B in the game. Utley's an underrated fielder with the second highest zone rating in MLB among second baseman. McCann did a great job calling games for the Braves and had the best catcher's ERA in the National League.
Peavy had a far superior year then Sabathia. Peavy had a much lower ERA, more strikeouts, lower opposing BAA, lower WHIP, allowed fewer hits/9 IP, etc.. Some people might point out that Peavy pitched in cavernous Petco Park. Well, his road ERA was 2.57 with a 1.05 WHIP while his home ERA was 2.51 with a 1.07 WHIP. He was every bit as good at home as he was in opposing ballparks.
Saito also had a better year then Nathan. His ERA of 1.40 was nearly half a run lower then Nathan's 1.88. Saito's WHIP was a miniscule 0.72 compared to Nathan 1.02. He also had a better strikeout: walk ratio, more strikeouts and had more saves while blowing fewer chances.
'll make my argument for Webb next argument.

You may have the base running advantage but my team still gets a slight advantage in Total Bases so they're making up for the SBs somewhere else. Fielding is more even than it looks, especially at catcher. Posada had a higher FP and made only 5 errors to McCann's 13. Teixeira's FP was only one point higher than Pena's and the same goes for Utley/Cano. Rodriguez's FP was a full 11 points higher than David Wright's and he made 8 less errors.
As for Webb and Santana--Webb has a lower ERA, but we know that could come from facing the NL. Yes, he has more IP so he's more likely to give up more walks so I took the walk per nine total and Santana wins. Also, Santana has less walks per his average start.
Betancourt also beats Bell in ERA, WHIP, SO, BB, K/BB, AVG, OBP, and OPS against. Bell, however gave up only 3 homers in 93 innings, and that is outstanding.

In terms of catching, calling the game is most important. McCann had the third lowest catcher's ERA in baseball this year behind Varitek and Kendall.Teixeira's won several Gold Gloves and is impeccable picking bad throws off the ground.
The AL ERA was 4.50 this year while the NL had an ERA 4.43. That a pretty small difference in ERA. Webb stepped up when his team needed it most. I'll just point to his scoreless innings streak. When his scoreless innings streak began on July 25, the Diamondbacks were 55-48, 1 1/2 games back of the Dodgers and in third place. By the time his scoreless streak ended on August 22, the Diamondbacks were 3 1/2 games up on the rest of the division. Arizona's record was 14-7 during that stretch with Webb being 5-0. I believe his streak played a major part in fueling the Diamondbacks' run.

Report Offensive CommentThink I'm gonna have to pass. There is no DH in the NL. Harder than I thought it would be w/out using your pitching.
