No doubt he's solid, but he's not the best...

Hanley Ramirez leads all NL SS with a .346 avg and has scored 38 runs

J.J. Hardy who I think is the total package, leads the NL with 13 HR's and 39 RBI's, not to mention he is tied with A-Rod for the league lead

Jose Reyes is godd, but in my mind he's not even a top 2 SS in the NL

i am not a Mets fan but Jose Reyes is the best SS in the NL. yes, JJ Hardy is having a great year but this could be a flash in the pan. he obviously has more power than Reyes but his RBI total is going to be higher because Reyes is a leadoff man. in the same number of at bats, Reyes has 3 more hits and only 14 less total bases, which in Hardy's case, are boosted 'cause of his home runs. Ramirez has a great average, but, Reyes triples his RBI count, has two more walks, and has stolen 9 more times.

JJ Hardy is the NL SS stud this year. Who were the Brewers before this kid stepped up his game? Reyes has a loaded line up, Hanley doesn't have the RBI's because no one is ever on base for him. He was a lead off man too, but since getting switched to the #3 spot, he's hitting .500

so Hardy isn't in a lodaded lineup? that whole team is hitting real well this year---Prince Fielder, Bill Hall, Geoff Jenkis, yeah they're no ones. Reyes has walked more and struck out less than Hardy and Ramirez. Hardy is having a great season but he is not the reason the Brewers are having such success. yes, he's part of it but he is not THE reason. that reason is the pitching. take him out, the Brewers are still fine with their pitching. take Reyes out and the Mets lose their spark at the top.

Stats don't lie. Pound for pound Reyes is NOT the best SS. The Mets would still be a World Series contender without him. Look at the stats.

how about instead of speculating, let's look at another thing where Reyes has an obvious advantage over Hardy and Ramirez--fielding stats. range factor: Reyes (4.31) has the obvious advantage over Hardy and Ramirez there (3.91 and 4.08 respectively). out of the three, Reyes has the most Total Chances (170) and has two less errors (2) than Hardy (4 in 159 chances) and 6 less than Ramirez (8 in 157 chances). Reyes is head and shoulders above Hardy and Ramirez at the plate and in the field.

Since when did you use offensive numbers to compare short stops....Omar Vizquel FTW!

since A-Rod, Jeter and Nomar joined baseball.

Ripken started it all.

Jose Reyes can do everything and the other SS can only excel in one or two maybe three things...

Reyes might not have the power numbers but he's the most complete SS in the game right now. Put him on the Royals and he'll still make things happen.

Not only is Reyes the best shortstop in the NL, but he'll be in the MVP running at the end of the year.

30 2B, 17 3B, 19 HR's, 64 stolen bases, and a .300 BA and he was the lead off man. Im still trying to figure out how he wasnt in the running for MVP last year. Not only is Reyes the BEST SS in MLB, but he is by far the most exciting player in baseball today.
