Three reasons why the Pro Bowl is overrated
1.THEY DONT TRY AT ALL
2.They make money and get a free vacation to hawaii to not even play half a game
3.It has nothing at stack so why watch

1 - It's clearly an exhibition game. Why risk career threatening injury?
2 - Wouldn't you go for a free, all-expenses paid vacation to Hawaii?
3 - Lots of stars in action who fans might not often see.
Your expectations for the game itself are way too high. It is clearly an exhibition game and nothing more.
Past the game there is reputation and this is where the Pro-Bowl is important as a general indicator of a players ability.
Tom Brady, 4 time Pro-Bowler.
Lance Briggs, 3 time Pro-Bowler.
It's a simple way to show that a player was one of the best of his era. The more times that they were voted to the team the more impressive.
Is is accurate? No, but I doubt that many players elected are disappointed.

I believe that your expectations for the Pro-Bowl game are high and therefore you feel it's overated.
From the amount of discussion that the Pro-Bowl picks have on this site I get the feeling that fans follow the selections closely and that players are glad to be recognized for the award.
The Pro-Bowl game itself is a showcase and I, for one, like to see it.
For the reasons I mentioned I don't have the expectation that it will be a game played to the hilt and I'm just happy to see a football all-star game.
I feel for guys like Fred Taylor and others that aren't selected.

They do have something to play for. Each player on the winning team gets paid more than the players on the losing team. That has to give them a little incentive to win the game. Besides, these guys are professional athletes and they hate it when they lose a game of checkers let alone a football game.

all all-star games will be jokes until they eliminate or marginalize fan voting. i don't care that i've said that a hundred times, it's still true.

Alright the pro bowl is no joke. Alright they get credit for an incretable job they did in the season. I mean come on after the long hard work of the football season you at least want something to be credited on.

The Pro Bowl is nothing more than a popularity contest. Seriously, Umenyiora over Cole? That's just foolishness. The only reason Umenyiora got in was name recognition. Cole deserved it much more than Umenyiora.

uum okay.. you really can't make that argument against osi.. I mean last I checked Osi had 6 sacks against Trent Cole's team.. and look at where he in comparison to the rest of the league

Look where he is in comparison to the rest of the league? Big mistake. When I last checked, Cole was much higher on the list in tackles ( he has 65) league wide. He is at 121, while Umenyiora is at 263, with only 43 tackles. They are comparable in sacks, with Cole at 3 and Osi at 4. But Cole is at 5 overall in tackles by a DE, while Umenyiora is at 37. The stats are against you and Osi.
As for the sacks Osi collected at the end of September, well every team has its bad days. The Iggles had a really bad day then. There's no other way to explain it.
