Throughout the course of last season, the Denver Broncos looked like they had everything in place to be considered a legitimate contender in the AFC. Their defense was the best PPG defense in the NFL until late in the year and their offense looked potent. However, Jake Plummer was their quarterback and their defensive line of former Cleveland Browns started to fall apart. Jay Cutler showed tremendous promise during his limited playing time for the Broncos and will be much better for having a full offseason to prepare himself as the man in Denver. They added Travis Henry to sure up their Bell problem at running back and as a result have rained the best rusher they have had since Clinton Portis. On defense, they aggressively filled their defensive line needs through the draft and added one of the games best corners to tandem with Champ Bailey. An all ready tremendous pass defense will be impossible to move the ball on with two shut down corners. Meanwhile, the Jaguars are completely unsure of what their future at the quarterback position holds with neither Leftwich or Garrard seeming to be worthy of leading this team. Their receivers are lackluster at best and their defense is old

The Jags only play 5 games against playoff teams. While the Broncos visit both of last yr's SB reps at the Bears and Colts, and have 6 games against playoff opponents from last season. Only 2 of the Broncos last 6 games are at home down the stretch. The Broncos got swept by the Chargers and nearly got swept by the Chiefs. The Jaguars out-scored the Broncos 371-319 and allowed less points, 274-205. You wanna talk about a combo of RB's, how about Maurice Jones-Drew and Fred Taylor?

Coming into the season the Jaguars are hardly intimidating. Aside from their pair of running backs who are you truly comfortable with on their offense? Matt Jones? Reggie Williams? I think not. I see divisional opponents in favor of the Broncos. Raiders and Texans, both are bad teams but expect the Raiders to climb this year now that they actually have an offensive coordinator. The Titans and Chiefs, again about equal but remember how strongly the Titans came on at the end of the year? They will continue this ascent. This year the Chiefs are going to struggle greatly on offense and finish up about average on defense. Meanwhile, again the Colts and Chargers are roughly equal. However, I would take the Colts this year with the Chargers losing basically all their coaches. The Broncos may have a tough schedule down the stretch, but the Jaguars hardly have it easier. They play at New Orleans, a team most expect to be better than the Bears this year; at the Steelers, a team ready to rebound back to form this year; and not to mention the Colts and Titans twice. Also, listen to this little blistering peace of their schedule: vs Colts, at Bills, at Saints, at Titans, vs Chargers.

The Jags already have one of the best defenses in the NFL, and drafted safety Reggie Nelson to boot. Running and defense wins in this league. Taylor and Jones-Drew rushed for a combined 2,087 yds and 18 TD's. The Jags ranked 10th in total offense and 2nd in total defense. Rashean Mathis one of the best corners in the league with 8 INT's last year. Defense wins championships and a rushing attack wins clock management.

You want to talk about running and defense winning in this league and you are using that as a counter to the Denver Broncos who can plug absolutely anyone into their system and produce yards? With Travis Henry in the backfield, he will have a 1,600 yard season with about 500 to spare for Mike Bell and company behind him. Just compare their postions. QBs: Jay Cutler >Leftwich/Garrard. Wrs: Smith/Walker/Stokely >Wilford/Williams/Jones. OLine: Broncos>Jaguars. TE Daniel Grahme> Wrighster/Wiggins. Secondary: Bailey, Bly, Lynch, and Fergusen > Williams, Mathis, Darius, and Nelson. At the linebacking position, who are you comfortable with aside from Mike Peterson on the Jaguars? The Broncos have a solid unit in place and obviously intended to somehow unload Wilson this offseason, kind of like how they plugged in Ian Gold for John Mobley years ago. I will give you an advantage at defensive tackle and a slight edge at runningback, but aside from that the Broncos dominate the Jaguars.

Leftwich has quarterbacked his team to the playoffs, Cutler was unable to salvage the Broncos season last year. I've already laid everything out, that Broncos defense gave up 305 pts last year. At least between Leftwich and Garrard they have more experience than Cutler. Denver always seems to fade away in the post Elway era. You could argue that the teams are pretty even, but dominate, no way. QB is the most important position in this league, Cutler has to prove he can get the job done.

No way the jags recover that five game stretch.
