Every sport should take a break for everyone could be with their families and baby Jesus

I agree to a minimal extent, but there is quite a bit I can argue against that. For example, I know we're discussing Christmas, but look at Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is the epitome of family-oriented time. It's tradition for nearly every family in the US to spend the day with members of the immediate and extended family. However, football is an integral part of that and has become a bona fide November tradition. For Christmas, sports plays a less significant role, but who doesn't like basketball or (insert sport here) on Christmas Day? I see nothing wrong with that.

Second, I'll argue your religious viewpoint. Christian or non-Christian, this is America. We are religiously tolerant and we have no official religion. There are widespread numbers of atheists, Jews, Muslims and Pastafarians (LIFER) roaming the country. To make an exception to Christianity would mean an obligation to make exceptions for all religions as well. Look at the issue with saying "Merry Christmas." You can't even do that anymore. We now have "Happy Holidays" instead, due to politically correct reformists.

Basically, Christmas is a day for family, but here's what I say in regards to sports: Let them play.

you say too much words and besides...you said you agree

i think like hockey they take a 4-5 day break it doesnt hurt anyone...just because we have too many fat guys who watch TV on christmas instead of families and baby Jesus, they have to put players to play their sports instead of remembering baby Jesus and his charity work

Okay, Joe. I said I agree to a MINIMAL extent, in that I understand the importance of family togetherness. However, I differ in that I still believe we should be playing sports. Maybe you should actually read my argument instead of the first sentence.

I'm not really sure what to say here, as your entire second argument was 5 lines of useless filler, so...I guess I'll just reiterate.

Christmas (assuming that you're Christian, which I am not) is a time that many consider to be a time to spend with family. Others, however, object strongly with the obsessive amount of attention given to Christmas with little respect given to holidays of other religions, like Yom Kippur. If you believe we should take off Christmas, then we'll have to take off on Easter, Yom Kippur, Rosh Ha-Shana, and Eid-ul-Fitr. See where I'm going with this?

If sports interferes with religious activity, non-Christians will have a field day with it.

Besides, what do organizations have to lose from this? Money, and lots of it. I doubt that big corporation sports businesses are going to take an entire day off to recognize a religious holiday that isn't even the biggest holiday for its respective religion.

but why do they make holiday special games then?!?!?! it should be normal schedule not quadruple headers with 15 games the whole day from every sport just because every fat man is off day and is in TV instead of celebrating good times

They make holiday specials because it's economically prosperous. Canceling all games, however, is not quit so profitable, for obvious reasons.

I'm not quite sure what your fascination with fat people sitting around and not enjoying the holidays. That's wonderful stereotyping you've done there, but the vast majority of people don't sit around with a Cheetos bag on Christmas Day watching football in their apartment by themselves when they've been invited to spend the day with the family. If they do, then they're likely sharing the Cheetos bag with a few families while they watch the game together.

As a final thought, I still don't understand what just happened in this throwdown. You said "Every sport should take a break for everyone could be with their families and baby Jesus" which you followed up by telling me that I agree with you and mentioning how much you like hockey. Then you asked me why televised games are holiday specials. It was something less of a structured argument.

My stance remains the same. There is nothing wrong with sports on the holidays. It only makes the holiday experience more enjoyable.

For some reason, in 24 hours, I will feel like slapping Cardsox in the face...

Anyone who "wants to take a break to be with their familes" certainly knows where the off button on the remote is.

What about those folks who don't have or can't be with families on the holiday?

And Baby Jesus wasn't born on December 25th. That's a symbolic date created to convert pagans to Christianity.

lol its probably why shaq and kobe quit hating each other, in the hopes they could stay home with their families...too bad they have to play on christmas anyway
