The most bizarre, if not schizophrenic teams in the NFL this year has been the Denver Broncos. They have been completely unpredictable. There were weeks in which they got completely blown out and weeks in which they completely dominated the field and their opponents. They had victories over winning teams and have been defeated by losing teams and teams that they were suppose to outright dominate. I don???t believe there has been another team with as many highs and lows. I don???t believe there is another team that one can really compare when considering all statistics and factors. One may say the Ravens or the Bengals but they never dominated a game and/or several games as did the Broncos this year.
More specific details and stats to come???

Denver has been a very unpredictable team this season, but the wackiest?

I have to give that award to the team that since training camp has seen???.
-Their starting QB thrown in jail

-Their New Head Coach left in the middle of the night to join the Arkansas Razorbacks

-They signed 2 former 1st round picks to play QB, only to start a guy that was selling insurance this time last year

-Their best young player (DeAngelo Hall) has gone from being suspended, to team spokesman during the Petrino mess, to demanding a trade.

-Hired Parcells to fix things, wait no he backed out at the last minute and went to Miami.

-Now have had not 1 but 2 retired coaches say that they don't want to come back to football to coach this team.

NOTHING is as wacky as what is going on with this team.

They started the season with two straight wins over the Bills and the Raiders. They then lost three in a row. Then they beat the Steelers. Then they lost two more games. They then beat the Chiefs and the Titans. They then lost two more in a row. They got another HUGE win against the Chiefs beating them 41 ??? 7. They have now had two straight losses. The team has been nearly impossible to predict. Everyone seems to think that Cutler is the QB of the future. Is it him? I don???t think so. Although they have had injuries, they have overcome them with productive players. Just look at their running game. When they have had a significant loss, they have been able to produce an equal if not better back-up. If you consider the coaching staff, etc., the Broncos should be in a better position then they are if not in the playoffs but as I said, they have been the most bizarre team this season.
Note: I am specifically speaking of expectations, "on-field" performance, coaching, etc... I'm not speaking about all the off-the-field antics. That's not football. From a pure (on-the-field football stand point ) the Broncos have been the most unpredictable team. This is a sports TD, not a media one

In Denver's case all that has really happened is a slew of injuries as well as some new coaches that didn't quite mesh well with the players.

-Cutler has had a great QB rating all season long without most of his O-line or his #1 WR. He has had fumble issues, but he has been sacked a TON!
-Bailey has been injured most of the season, as well as Lynch.
-Denver also lost their 1st round pick Jarvis Moss for the year as well.

This is a very young team, they showed plenty to get excited about (Cutler, DJ Williams, Dumervil, Crowder, Marshall, Scheffler, and Dre' Bly is only 1 INT away from tying a career high)

In Atlanta you have seen CRAZY events on and off of the field.
Carolina got an entire drive off of penalties from 1 player
Hall then went and cursed out his coach.

Also when Vick was sentenced this team showed that they cared more about Vick than this coach or team by staging Multiple showings of support for their criminal QB.

Denver may be erratic on the field, but Atlanta is wacky.

Again, I will just say that I look at football and watch the sport for the sport in and of itself. I do my best to stay out of MEDIA DRIVEN attention to a team that really has nothing to do withthe "game" itself. I think that everyone expected Denver to be a better team. One that was more consistent and one that had a lot of strengths on both sides of the ball and all around them.

Of course what has happened to the Falcons is unusual, but it's not football. It's everything else our society seems to focus on. The next thing we'll see is a reality TV show about a football team; who better to star than the Falcons.

Again, we're talking about two very different subject matters. Honestly, I don't think you made a worthy counter argument. You're not speaking about fundamental football.

If you picked a team such as the Vikings, Ravens, Dolphins, Bengals, etc..., I think you would have been sticking with the TD format (football).

Perhaps we just view the sport differently??? I keep personal/individual antics out of the game, especailly "off-the-field" antics or on-the-field antics that are suppose to get media attention.

Let's talk pure football!!!

I don't know that I haven't been able to counter your argument.

All Denver has done is underachieve, and even then they have had some key injuries. Here are a few teams that have done just as bad as Denver if not worse.
-Miami
-Chicago
-Jets
-Detroit
- Cincy
-Baltimore

Now, on to your argument. You say that I focused on "the media", I don't think the media put this team's QB in jail, or made their coach leave in the middle of the night. A media driven situation would be like the one in New England, or with the Giants. Bunches of stories that don't really matter other than a bit on T&R.

Denver's season hasn't gone as expected, but it was by NO means out of the ordinary, you even admit that other teams have had similar seasons. It happens every year, the Steelers underachieved a year ago and they are doing much better now.

For Atlanta, last I checked when your defensive leader is getting suspended, your QB arrested and your coach quits it is WACKY! And all of that deals with things that effected what happens ON the field.

the bears could be tossed into that too but not to the degree of the broncos

December 27, 2007  11:45 AM ET

Good call schwartz, that would have been my argument. Let's see how cat fires back.

December 27, 2007  11:46 AM ET

The Broncos are definately up there, but Atlanta is by far the craziest.

December 27, 2007  11:49 AM ET

How about the Lions??? Start off the Season great and then lose 6 strait, and if we draft another damn WR i'm going to **** myself.....

December 27, 2007  11:50 AM ET

****??? you can't say ****??

December 27, 2007  11:58 AM ET

gotta go with Schwartz on this one. Denver was a bit confusing on the field but Atl was by far the most bizarre.

December 27, 2007  11:58 AM ET

This is not a media driven TD. This is about a football team. This is about football itself. If I were going to do a TD about off the field antics I would go with the Falcons or the Pats but that's another TD. Good topic but not this one. If you take pure football into consideration, which team has made the least sense? Which has been the most difficult to predict, week in and week out? Again, I refer you to the talent that surrounds the Broncos. They just don't make sense this season.

December 27, 2007  11:59 AM ET

Keep in mind, I'm also talking about teams, not individuals...

December 27, 2007  12:05 PM ET

yeah and as a team Atlanta got 2 wins in a row then benched thier QB, let the next guy start one and started someone off of the street.

December 27, 2007  12:05 PM ET

kill

December 27, 2007  12:26 PM ET

denver definitely

December 28, 2007  10:45 AM ET

BS said exactly the same thing that I was going to say before I even read his argument.

December 28, 2007  11:02 AM ET

Good arguments on both sides... don't know which way I will go... but I guess I will "throw Schwartz a bone" like he did for DetFan in my TD with him recently... even though I got shafted by him...

December 28, 2007  11:03 AM ET

LOL... no hard feelings... though that bone hit me on the skull as you threw it to DetFan...
