Herschel Walker and Bo Jackson are the two most dominant college football players to win the Heisman Trophy since 1980.

I will go with Herchel but instead of Bo i will go with Barry Sanders...for one he was a Jr when he won it Bo was a senior...one less year performance and playing time to get the attention of Voters...Along with being a back up to Thurman Thomas untill his Jr year when Thomas went pro, he was never the starting running back....so this season he took over the starting position is the season he won the heisman..
Barry Also took in more votes than Bo did with 1878, while Bo had 1509...
Facts...
-Sanders rushed for 2,628 yards, an NCAA record.
-He had 3,249 total yards, an NCAA record.
-Sanders scored 39 TDs (37 rushing, 1 kick return, 1 punt return), an NCAA record.
-He averaged 7.6 yards per carry.
-He rushed for 300+ yards in four games.
That was during the 11-game regular season. In the bowl game that year he ran for 22yds with 5 t.d. all within 3 qrts...

Facts are facts and you raise an impressive argument for Barry Sanders. He could easily be the one. I cannot argue against Sanders's numbers. They are probably the most impressive RAW numbers I have ever seen amassed. I'm going to rest my argument on Bo's intangibles. Jackson dominated the SEC for 2 of the 4 years he played (hurt junior year, 800 yds freshman). I saw him play. As a Gator, he was THE most feared player we faced, and we had some great teams in the 80's. He was a big, fast, and powerful back who could break a game open. In 85 vs. us in Auburn, he broke off 2 runs, each over 70 yds. that broke our backs. I'm going to rest on the stiffer competition of the SEC that Bo faced and the fear he wrought.

While both had GREAT colleges years, we all know that heisman winners have a knack for dropping off the radar in the pros....not ALL but a lot...
Now with that said being, a multi athlete (Bo) had more to concern himself with than just one sport....he had to stay on top of two games...thus Barry only one. Now being the best (debatable) running back ever....has proven that he furthered his career than Bo...playing two sports is a great feat...and he was quiet possibly the best at it...he really only was good at both and not great...Barry went down to be one of the best RB ever to touch a ball...H e was all about the sport and making himself better and other as well. He really never got much camera time because he was reluctant to do interviews and just concerned himself with how to get better... he down played everything...
Since the 89 season he gained the rookie of the year award along with a spot in the pro bowl...along with 9 other appearances.
2 player of the year awards
15,269 yds
NFL hof...and the most humble man i or you would have met....

I can't argue Barry's greatness. Let's keep the NFL career out of the argument. First, this is about their college careers and second, there's no doubt as to who had the better pro career: Barry did. Again, I go back to fear factor, level of competition faced, and ability to change a game. It's a tough, close argument to be sure. I just know that I saw both Jackson and Walker in person play and both were THE most feared players ever to face my Gators. In the three areas I listed above, I have to give the edge, however, slight, to Bo Jackson. Well done.

Ok well i just figured, cause it said heisman winners ever....but ok

Game 3- 5 TDs; broke school record for yardage for the 1st of three times in '88 season with 304yds in the game...
no fear yet....will keep going....
Game 4- 4 TDs including 65-yard TD run 174 total rushing yds
Game 5- 4 TDs, 184 rushing yds...
Game 7- 3TD's 320 rushing yds....
Game 8- 2 TDs 215 rushing yds...
Game 9- 5 TDs; broke single-season TD record with 31 for the season at this point. with 312 rushing yds...
Game 10- 4 TDs including an 80-yard TD run, 293 rushing yds...
Game 11- 4 TDs with 332 rushing yds...along with the announcement of his winning of the heisman at game time in Tokyo Jp.
i'd be scared if i was a D-line or LB...

Report Offensive CommentLove Sanders and Bo, but I'll go with Bo, because I've watched clips of each, and Bo was more athletic (proven by his multi-sport ability).

Report Offensive CommentBarry Sanders was a God that year. As an OU fan I know because he scared the bejesus out of us. If it want for HOF Thurman Thomas Barry would have had more touches and more hardware on his mantle.
Bo is best 2 sport athlete but the real debate is Herschal or Bo.. because Barry is top 2.

Report Offensive CommentSooner, I hear you on Sanders. Got to say though that I lived through Herschel as well. He was ridiculous. On par with Jackson. Never, ever saw a back as dangerous catching the ball out of the backfield. Tough argument, no doubt.

Report Offensive CommentBo Jackson wasn't just "good", I never saw him in the pros, but footage shows me a pure blend of speed, and power. If it wasn't for his injury, we would recognize him as a great running back, maybe even one of the greatest ever.

Report Offensive CommentI looked up Bo's numbers, and they aren't great yardage wise, because he only played a max of 10-11 games, but he averaged 5.4 YPR, that's amazing.
