Now, I don't know a lot about golf, I don't even pay much attention to it. But even I know that Arnold Palmer is one of the best golfers of all time, in the top three, probably top two.

all of the golfers n their completed the grand slam of golf except for tiger palmer didnt do that he was great he is number 6 but not top 5

I'm just dumbfounded by the fact that you don't have Palmer in their. Some people even think he's the best golfer of all time. I'm not one of those people, but he is second or third.

He had 94 wins in all, 62 on PGA Tour, 17 regular, Champions tour-10, and Senior-5.

Won the Masters 4 times, once in the U.S. Open, and 2 British Opens

Was player of the year twice

In championship performances he had 142 starts, 7 wins, 10 2nd places, 19 3rds, 26 top 5's, and 38 top 10's. He also has the longest streak of top 10's with 6 of em in a row.

ADisOUT he got this straight out of golf.about.com lol, http://golf.about.com/cs/historyofgolf/a/top5men.htm that's why it was up for like 5 minutes, it's only a news jockey's picks though nothing official so beat him

JMac you got this straight out of golf.about.com people look those things up before they challenge people you know, http://golf.about.com/cs/historyofgolf/a/top5men.htm lol, ADisOUT Palmer for the win i'll wait and see the arguments though.

December 28, 2007  11:24 PM ET

I know, but come on, oh well keep arguing.

December 28, 2007  11:33 PM ET

that truly is the list u cant deny it

December 28, 2007  11:34 PM ET

I don't care who you take OUT of your top 5, but if you don't have Arnie IN, you're OUT. I've been around golf my whole life and I do know what I'm talking about. ADisOUT is on de money. Greatest anything is not just about numbers. Palmer did more for the game than anyone (with the possible exception of Jones). Vote to AD

December 28, 2007  11:41 PM ET

ok this isnt about who did more for the game if you have been around golf your whole life read a book likeThe Grand Slam of Golf The Bobby Jones Story Ben Hogan: An American Life that is golf tha shows they are in the top 5 not palmer those guys are better and played in the times of wooden clubs and had to deal with that and they sill did great I know golf I'm on a golf team right now

December 29, 2007  12:18 AM ET

I don't know anything about golf (I hit a few balls but don't neccasairaly follow it) but AD's arguments have me convinced.

"those guys are better and played in the times of wooden clubs and had to deal with that and they sill did great I know golf I'm on a golf team right now"

You're on a golf team making you an authority on the subject, eh? LOL.

Hogan and Jones ALSO played in a time with MUCH shorter courses, MUCH slower greens, and where breaking par was abnormal. They also played in an era where only the elite were even allowed to play the game. The competition was crap.

Trying to compare eras in any sport is difficult, in golf, it's impossible.

But let me show you how much you DON'T know about golf. You claimed: "all of the golfers n their completed the grand slam of golf except for tiger"
Um, wrong. The grand slam refers to winning all 4 majors in the same season. NO golfer has EVER done it.

The "grand slam" Jones won consisted of the U.S. Amateur, U.S. Open, U.K. Amateur, and U.K. Open. Jones is the only golfer to win those 4 in the same year and is sometimes credited with winning the "grand slam" as a result. No other golfer before or since has won those 4 or the 4 majors considered the grand slam in the same calender year. Woods it the only golfer to ever come close, winning the 4 majors consecutively but over two different seasons. YOU are confusing winning the grand slam with the inappropriately named "career grand slam" which is simply winning each major at least once in a career, except you even screwed that up by saying Tiger hasn't done it.

Oh, and Gary Player has no business on any top 5 list. Yeah 9 major wins is nice but the majority of his career wins came on the South African tour. He only won 24 tourneys on the PGA tour. Arnie has 7 majors (and a U.S. Amateur which used to be considered a major) and 62 PGA tour wins.

haha, thanks CCC

December 30, 2007  02:29 AM ET

No problem. As soon as I read his claim that everyone on his list "won a grand slam except Tiger" there was no way I was letting that slide, lol.

You can maybe sub palmer for player, but I would sub Sam Sneed for player instead. But your top four are absolutly correct. No doubt.
