Releasing or Trading Donovan Mcnabb would be a tremendous mistake.

Donovan Mcnabb has proven that he is part of the elite quarterbacks in the league today. He has made so much progress with the mediocre wide receivers he has been given. Even with his injuries, he has shown that he holds the mental and physical toughness on and off the field required by the position.

While I do agree that Mcnabb played well this week and in past few I still believe its best to part ways. The past three seasons have proven that the magic is over with the team and himself. In 05 they missed the playoffs and again he was injured.Last yr the Eagles came roaring back to win the east when he went down and Garcia took over. Now this year he wasnt great all year long and the team again underachieving. He still has something left in his tank but both him along with the Eagles need to move on and get on with everything else.He needs a change of teams while the Eagles need to go young and move forward from here on out.

The Eagles and Mcnabb parting ways is not the solution to their problem. The solution is to provide Mcnabb with playmakers. Brian Westbrook is a player that has weakened the load on the shoulders of Mcnabb. The Eagles are consistently picking up Number2/Number3 wide receivers and then releasing them the next year. Look at the season the Eagles went to the Super Bowl. Terrell Owens, as much as I hate for ruining the team chemistry, showed that all Mcnabb needed was a big play receiver. Kevin Curtis has performed well, but only for a number 2 receiver. If the Eagles can somehow grab a number 1 receiver like Chad Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald (both of which are tough to acquire), they will be one of the best offenses in the league. Look at the 2006 season. The Eagles were the 2nd best offense with 381.4 yards a game, and 257.4 yards just on passing. Garcia played for a few weeks while Mcnabb was injured, but the Eagles did not get become the 2nd best offense because of Garcia. He was successful because he was clutch and consistent. Mcnabb is a power behind the pocket. The Eagles need to go young on defense. The only player they need to go young on offense is Jon Runyan.

Who cares where there offense was as far as stats with mcnabb .The fact is is that when garcia came in the team did something it did not do when he went down. That was win football games and win often. The team went and won 6 straight counting the nfc wildcard game. This year the offense hasnt been able to score and yea they lack a number 1 wideout but they still have a top 5 running back who does it all and they could barely score more than 13 points in a game. The defense is far from the problem for them.In fact I will go as far to say the reason the Eagles are even a .500 team this year is because the defense played so well.A huge part of Mcnabb was his ability to run with the ball when he needed to and he struggles with that more now because of his injuries.Like I said this guy is a good qb and has been throughout his career but he needs to go somewheres where the fans wont get on him for no reason and so the Eagles can start thinking about retuning for another run because they are falling behind the other three teams in the East who all have young qb;s and are heading to the playoffs this year.

My argument is not to say that Donovan Mcnabb is the best in the league. We can leave that status to Tom Brady, Brett Favre, and Tony Romo. I am simply saying that releasing or trading Mcnabb will not only bring nothing in return, but it will cause the Eagles to lose their team leader. Getting rid of Mcnabb leads to 3+ years of under .500 seasons, all to hold out on a POSSIBLE success story in Kevin Kolb. Maybe people thought that Mcnabb was expendable with the game Feeley had against the Patriots. Let's not forget, Feeley threw an INT for a TD to Asante in the game. He threw an INT to end the game. In the following week, Feeley threw 4 interceptions, the final one ending the game there. There are not many QBs that can withstand the pressure from the fans of Philadelphia. Mcnabb has been calm and collective throughout his tenure with the Eagles and with his performance in the last half of the season, he has proven that he still has the pro bowl numbers in him. Getting rid of a quarterback will most definitely ruin a team, but getting rid of Mcnabb specifically is a move the Jeffrey Lurie will not make.

Well we all know that no one thinks of Mcnabb as a top qb anymore.Heres the thing though. You say team leader but early in the year he desides to pass the blame of lack of success on everyone.Yes I know he was right but as the qb you need to take blame for it.In football the qb gets to much credit alot of times as well as too much blame it all comes with being a qb at this level. He is still very far from his former probowl days and probably wont get back there.lets face it he is not brett Farve, hes not going to get better later. The Giants,Cowboys and Redskins are all going to the playoffs this year. They all are pretty young including there qb's besides Collins the backup for Washington. Those three teams I have a feeling are all going to be pretty good in years to come. The Eagles need to take some lumps and get young in the qb area and rebuild a little.

my vote goes to st rainman beacause although he is productive i agree with shyam d but he is injury prone

The Eagles need to turn the corner and bring in some young blood at QB. McNabb still has some playing time left but the franchise needs to think about there future. I think that they need to trade him to a team that needs a good QB (ie the Falcons) for draft picks.

Report Offensive Comment

Look at all the hits he has taken this year. He has taken his share of hits. 12 sacks against the Giants. He has played without the brace for 5+ weeks now. Roy Williams horse collared him. He has stayed healthy and looks to do so next year as well.

Report Offensive Comment

Let's be honest, trading Mcnabb is not going to bring in a star player. Kolb and Feeley are not the future of the Eagles.

Report Offensive Comment

Apparently the Eagles franchise thinks that Kolb is the future of there franchise. If they didn't then they wouldn't have taken him with there first round draft pick last year. Use McNabb to bring in some much needed help at wideout.

Report Offensive Comment

But obviously Mcnabb doesnt bring in any superstars niether.Besides Owens a few yrs ago the Eagles never get any big plays guys.

Report Offensive Comment

I just don't get Philly fans. Who do you think you will get that is better than McNabb??

Report Offensive Comment

That's my point. Trading Mcnabb won't bring in much at all. The sad truth is, Kevin Kolb was picked for the future. But not the immediate future. Look at Aaron Rodgers. He's been sitting on the bench in Green Bay for years now.

Report Offensive Comment

Rogers is sitting on the bench behind a legend.mcnabb is far from that.Rogers actually was brought in for the immediate future though. The team felt farve was ready to retire and he just keeps playing.

Report Offensive Comment

Again, im not comparing Mcnabb to Favre. Only Terrell Owens has the time for that (hehe). We're comparing Kevin Kolb's bench time to Aaron Rodgers' bench time.

If I'm not mistaken Moss signed for one year with the Pats. The Eagles could go after him. I don't think they could sign him after the year that he has had but they have to do something to put some life into there wideout position. I do think that they could get a quality player for McNabb. Even if they have to settle for taking one in the draft, from the trade that they could make from a team that needs a good starting QB. There are a lot of teams that would give up there first round pick to get McNabb.

Report Offensive Comment

Mcnabb will not yield a high draft pick. Look what Randy Moss was traded for (5th round pick). If team owner's feel the same way as you guys, they will not in their right mind trade a first round pick for an "injury prone QB". Let's be realistic here.

Report Offensive Comment

Randy Moss got picked up for a fourth round pick. (What a steal)

Report Offensive Comment

McNabb might not yield a first round pick but I think he would be worth a fairly high round pick.

We are entitled to our opinions.

After looking at the Eagles roster they have a very young recieving core. The most experienced player that they have is Kevin Curtis and he has 5 years. They need some real help at that position.

Report Offensive Comment

One way or another the Eagles need to go out and get a top notch reciever. Maybe not a Moss or Owens but there are other quality recievers out there that would fit in with the Eagles. By either trading McNabb or releasing him they free up a lot of money to go out and get a reciever.

Report Offensive Comment

Moss did only sign a one yr deal but after the yr he had with Brady he wont be going anywhere.Roy Williams wants out of Detroit, and im sure there will be a few guys out there.

Blanda, if the eagles get the cap room, they can get a number one receiver. Who will pass to him?
