The NFL draft is coming up (okay, 4 months, but still...). Never too early to do some mock draft throwdowns. The Dolphins suck. They have no QB, no offensive line or WRs, no defense, and no decent coaches. I've heard Glenn Dorsey, Jake Long, Matt Ryan (?), and Chris Long, but the Dolphins should take Darren McFadden.

Yes, they have Ronnie Brown, but a two back system can end up being one of the most effective offenses in the league. Last year's conference championship games featured teams with 2 back systems. This year, 4 of the top 5 teams in rushing use 2 backs. Minnesota has Peterson and Taylor. Jacksonville has Jones-Drew and Taylor. The Giants have Bradshaw and Jacobs. Tennessee has Brown and White. For some reason, 2 back systems win. New England has used Faulk and Maroney when they run. Dallas has Jones and Barber. Green Bay has Grant and Jackson. 2 backs win games.

The only other player I could see them taking is Glenn Dorsey, but offense is a bigger need. They held the Patriots to 28 points, but they only scored 7. If they had a back like McFadden it may have been different. 2 backs win. Offenses win.

Okay, 1st it would be the 2008 NFL Draft.. 2nd, they don't need a QB, Cleo Lemon is a pretty decent QB, in 7 games started, he is 173-309 1773 yds 6 td's 6 int's. Give him a full season and you got yourself a 2,800 -3,100 yd passer. They don't need Run DMC, they have Ronnie Brown (who is a 1,000 yd rusher) and Rick Williams coming back (if he stays healthy) not to mention Jessie Chatman, who averages 4 yds a carry. They need defense more than anything, that is where Big Glen Dorsey comes in. He would be a huge upgrade to a poor defensive line. Also you have the offseason to sign players on offense. Trust me, Big Tuna always has, and always will focus on defense.

Sorry about the date thing. Dumb mistake by me.

Cleo Lemon is clearly not the answer. He throws for a lot of yards, but they still can't score.

In today's NFL, offenses win. The Pats have been giving up a lot of points recently, but they still win. Baltimore scored an offensive touchdown on them. Eli Manning and the Giants marched it up and down on them, but they still won. A good offense is better than a good defense. The Texans took Mario Williams, and he's done great, but he hasn't turned around that team. I'm sure the Texans wish they had a better RB than Ron Dayne and Darius Walker. Mario Williams is clearly a better pick than Reggie Bush or Vince Young, but the Texans D still can't stop the Colts.

The Patriots, Colts, Cowboys, and Packers all have top 5 offenses, and they all have 13 or more wins.

McFadden could give the Dolphins a fearsome offense. Like EH said, Brown was great before he got injured, but like Joseph Addai, he could have had his production slowed down by taking a large majority of the carries. With Run DMC, Brown, Lemon, and Ginn, the offense could score in a division where they could get 4 wins easily.

There is one thing that you are missing thought. It's DEFENSE. Yes, the Pats have the best offense in the league, BUT their DEFENSE is ranked 4th in the league. The Colts DEFENSE is ranked 3rd in the league. The Cowboys DEFENSE is ranked 9th in the league. The Packers DEFENSE is ranked 11th in the league. While they do have good offense, they also have great defense to back them up. Which is why they have the records that they do. Miami Dolphins are ranked 23rd in the league. They give up 342 yds a game! You have Big Tuna in town now. While he was in Dallas, all he did was draft defense. He established the 4-3 Defense. That defense has been pretty dominant since then. He will look at Miami's 1-15 record, and say "We have no DEFENSE". Offense puts up points, but DEFENSE wins championships. Always been true, always will be true.

Teams with good offenses will almost always have good defense, statistically speaking. Bad offenses give the defenses good field position. Remember that the Dolphins lost Zach Thomas, which hurt their production on defense. Also, the Phins have some young players in the secondary and have made some transactions during the previous offseason, not to mention they have Jason Taylor. The defense will do better if they aren't on the field all the time.

Let's look at one of the worst defenses last year. The Indianapolis Colts. Their run defense was awful. The way they fixed it-nothing. The changes were losing players. The only new player was Ed Johnson, the defensive tackle. Sometimes doing nothing does work.

The Phins need to build around a star. You can't build a team around a defensive tackle. Look at the defensive stars in this league-Champ Bailey, Jason Taylor, Bob Sanders, Kevin Williams, Pat Williams, Albert Haynesworth. Only Sanders won his division. However, offensive stars like Tom Brady, LT, and Tony Romo won their divisions. You can't build a team around a defensive tackle. You can around a star back like Darren McFadden.

First its the 2008 NFL draft

You guys are both completely and utterly retarded. You cant win in the NFL without a good quarterback and Matt Ryan is the most NFL ready. Cleo Lemon is garbage and clearly cant get the job done.

December 30, 2007  09:00 PM ET

NFL ready? i dont think any college QB right now is NFL ready.

December 30, 2007  09:20 PM ET

A whole new team.

December 30, 2007  09:22 PM ET

I think it's going to be Dorsey (presuming no injury on January 7th) because of Mario Williams. Texans now look like geniuses, and as a result the criticism of Miami would be muted if they took Dorsey.

They question is, can Dorsey play in a 3-4? What does LSU play?

December 30, 2007  09:22 PM ET

Haha, so much for your "completely and utterly retarted" theory. Great job to put a foot in your mouth. So is there anything else you would like to add (that has more meaning than 3 letter train wreck, o excuse me, sentence?)

December 30, 2007  09:33 PM ET

My husband, Chris Long :) I hope he ends up at the 'Skins tho' by like, a freak confusion accident with the picks...

December 30, 2007  09:39 PM ET

The Dolphins need more help than just one pick. Let's wait and see who the coach will be next year. If they bring in Parcell then they are on the right track at turning there team around. Also the team might be up for sale soon. So there are a lot of things that could impact the team next year.

December 30, 2007  10:14 PM ET

Actually, look at the numbers. Defense is a bigger need. On offense, at least they have a lot of youth, with young QBs, O-linemen, and a good stable of backs (Ronnie Brown was the best back in the NFL, IMO, prior to his injury).

The defense is old and crusty. The clincher, for me, is Bill Parcells, who will take either Dorsey or Long.

December 30, 2007  10:17 PM ET

It is also entirely possible that they trade out of that slot.

The Dolphins actually need the most help in the secondary, then D-line, and then O-line.

With so many great top prospects and uncertainty over who will take who at the top, the Phins would be wise to trade back and pick up a top corner like Cason, Jenkins, or Talib, and then use their second round pick plus the second rounder they'd presumably get for their first overall pick, to nab a defensive lineman (tackle, preferably), and an offensive tackle.

eagle hater you avatar is very satanistic and scary... and confusing.... and hurts my heart's eyes

December 31, 2007  01:07 AM ET

These TDs are a mistake at the outset

They need D
They trade down for some starters and some picks
-or- they made a mistake in the draft

December 31, 2007  01:08 AM ET

The whole TD is a mistake
They need D - you can get D late in the 1st round or early in the 2nd
They trade down for starters and draft picks
-or- the made a mistake in the draft

December 31, 2007  03:09 AM ET

oops - I didn't think it took submit the 1st time - sorry dudes.

January 2, 2008  06:27 PM ET

"They need D - you can get D late in the 1st round or early in the 2nd "

And you can get O in the late first and early second as well.

Look at the top 4 hands-down prospects in this draft- Glenn Dorsey, Jake Long, Darren McFadden, Chris Long.

Two defense, two offense. Defense is at the top too, you know.

January 2, 2008  06:29 PM ET

Because frankly, look at all the top corners.

Terence Newman. Champ Bailey. Charles Woodson. Chris McAlister. Charles Woodson.

All of them were first round picks, most of them high first rounders. Not all are first rounders (Asante Samuel, for example), but many are.

Same with lots of other positions as well.

They'd be better off taking Howie Long's kid. Dorsey isn't big enough to be an effect D-lineman in the NFL.
