1. MIA DT Glenn Dorsey
2. STL OT Jake Long
3. ATL QB Matt Ryan
4. OAK RB Darren McFadden (yeah boy)
5. KC DE Chris Long (say it aint so Howie)

List first, arguments next. Try to disagree with a few pick so we can make this interesting.

ok given being we can;t trade

(and I'll lay odds that the Fins and ATl BOTH do.)

1. Miami Dolphins - Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU
2. STL- Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College
3.ATL- Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
4. OAK - Chris Long, DE, Virginia
5. KC - Jake Long OT- Michigan

Next off the board? Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC

and he's gonna be better than you think.

The Rams just signed Marc Bulger to a long term $50+ million contract extension. I don't see them paying another $50+ million contract to a rookie QB. Orlando Pace has went down for the season two consecutive years now. I think it's time to draft another franchise tackle.

The Falcons have solid RB's that can get the job done. They are pretty much at rock bottom right now and when rebuilding a franchise you have to adress the QB position. They have nobody to play QB. Matt Ryan makes perfect sense here.

I wouldn't mind Chris Long ending up with my Raiders but Darren McFadden is too good to pass on. We all know Al Davis loves guys with rare physical ability like McFadden. Plus Justin Fargas is a free agent and he might want to cash in on his breakout season. Rhodes will be in the last year of his contract in 08.

KC is going to have to franchise tag Jared Allen this offseason and then they'll probably lose him to free agency the following year. Chris Long would be perfect to match with Jared Allen for a year and then he would be a perfect replacement.

ARGH!!!

Windowpopup and I lost it ALL

AAARGH

now I have to retype my CRUSHING arguement

1. So Glenn is the top Pick

2. Bulger did sign a long term contract- and has not exactly lived up to said contract- OR shown much long term leadership and also has clashed with his coaches and wideouts

enter

Matt Ryan - to most scouts the best QB coming out- with great tools and very coachable to boot and to most observers is off the charts in leadership ability

this gives the Rams a Brees/Rivers duo for one year to see if The Coach there is going to be the man after this year.

The Rams have the next Pace 2005 top pick Alex Barron

The Falcons are in a market where they need a star- Mr Blank is in DESPERATE need of a high character guy he can build around-

enter

Derrick McFaddin- who solves BOTH these problems- the ONE place that sells out in jawja is Futbawl and they KNOW who Derrick McFaddin is and have watched him- and as "the days of handing the keys of the franchise to a RB are over" Uh- there is a team up north that is going to the playoffs that would disagree with you.

Oakland has an Old D- and Chris Long is a SPONGE - let him learn at Sapps knee

Forfeited Turn

Well I'm not sure how to respond to that one-

The Falcons do NOT have a solid RB- They have adesent core but If DM walks through that Door- he INSTANTLY becomes the top back in the ATL and the Falcons gain a star they need BADLY-

I mean how do you market the Falcons right now? DeAngelo Hall? Warrick Dunn? I mean I love Dunn and thing he is a real-life hero for his charity work- but He's not exaclty going to star in a Fat-Head commercial is he?

December 30, 2007  11:53 PM ET

Stl, take a QB? I'm not sure about that one, they just signed Bulger for a big contract 2 years ago.

December 30, 2007  11:58 PM ET

i think the raiders chiefs and falcons have to flip a coin.

December 30, 2007  11:59 PM ET

I don't think the Falcons take a RB to rebuild

the days of handing the keys of the franchise to a RB are over

December 31, 2007  12:04 AM ET

It comes down to strength of schedule between the Falcons, Raiders, and Chiefs. This is the order they will be drafting.

NCDavid

I totally agree with you about Sedrick Ellis. I heard the guy bench presses something like 590 lbs. He is a little undersized but he is as strong as anyone. He comes in the mold of a John Randle. He is going to be a beast. The Bengals would benefit a lot if they landed him.

December 31, 2007  12:09 AM ET

Raiders should take Jake Long. Our offensive line needs work. After we make a deal with Fargas, we'll have too much money invested in RB to take McFadden. But I think bIGROCK is right and Jake won't be available, so Chris Long perhaps? That would be fitting.

December 31, 2007  12:31 AM ET

biGROCK good argument, good picks, good TD.... you get my vote

December 31, 2007  12:40 AM ET

Nice to see this many votes off a LIST

can we give a reason why?

December 31, 2007  12:41 AM ET

5. I think Jake Long slips a bit- speed rushers have given him trouble this year and some scouts worry about him being anther D'Brick lineman who is getting outplayed in Jersey

December 31, 2007  12:48 AM ET

I wouldn't take Glenn Dorsey in the top 5. I just feel like when he's played good teams he hasn't performed. I know he's been injured, but even when he wasn't injured against Florida and Kentucky, he wasn't dominant. I watched him against South Carolina for the first time and he was dominant, but after that, he wasn't even the best player on that defense. Especially against Florida, he was pretty much manhandled. Florida ran right at him and made him make a quick decision and he seemed to have trouble against that. That tells me that he can't 2-gap, which means that he doesn't go to the Dolphins.

December 31, 2007  01:10 AM ET

I also didn't like Matt Ryan a lot. He throws far too many interceptions and makes too many mistakes for my liking. The first thing I look for in a quarterback is the ability to not turn the football over and Matt Ryan doesn't fullfil that. I also don't think he sees the field particularly well. A lot of times, he misses pre-snap blitzes on the backside and he doesn't see those linebackers and safeties underneath. He has poise and he didn't have a lot of talent on his team, but he needs to sit as soon as he comes into the NFL. However, Ryan does have all of the physical tools to succeed in the league.

I think Andre Woodson is the #1 quarterback coming out of the draft this year. He's got all of the physical tools and he's got all of the mental abilities as well. He didn't have a ton of talent around him and he's taken his team and overachieved with it. He is intelligent enough to succeed in the NFL as well. Against LSU, he was reading what the LSU defense was doing and making the right calls at the line of scrimmage. He had no help from his receivers and he led his team to victory. He showed poise and he has a great presence.

The Bad things on Woodson (from www.nfldraftcountdown.com)

May need to have the mechanics of his delivery refined RED FLAG

Will run hot and cold at times and needs to be more consistent
- and this is at KENTUCKY- who was thier last big time QB?

Can run a bit but won't be mistaken for Michael Vick or Vince Young anytime soon

Played out of the shotgun a lot.
-- I noticed this during the 2 times I saw him - and that would conern me a great deal if I was a NFL team

Has some issues when it comes to reading coverages

Has too much confidence in his arm strength
-- and he overthrew a lot as well

Puts too much air under some throws

Needs some development.
-- gotta love that from a top 10 pick

December 31, 2007  01:23 AM ET

and GD is going to be the top pick the Fins gave up 158.6 rushing yards per game

and GD has played a TON of games at a HIGH level and if 95% or better is a pro-bowler NEXT year at DT

December 31, 2007  01:45 AM ET

I do agree that Woodson has that delivery where he takes a long wind-up, but that can be fixed. I don't have a problem if he likes the shotgun a lot. Most of the snaps that Tom Brady takes are from the shotgun. I do have a problem if they played in some rinky dink college offense like Colt Brennan. One reason he took a lot of snaps from the shotgun is because he had no running game to speak of. I don't think it's that hard to come from the shotgun to under center.

I do agree that he has a tendency to overthrow the ball a little bit. When he misses throws, he usually overthrows the pass a little bit. However, I think that can be fixed. It's quite possible to fix an improper throwing motion.

I don't see him having a problem reading coverages and blitzes, he's pretty smart and he usually knows when he's going to get hit, when he has to throw the football, and where he has to put the football. Not only that, but he doesn't turn the football over a lot.

The reason I think he's a better quarterback than Ryan is because he is careful with the football. That's the first thing I look for in a quarterback and that's the reason I think the Dolphins take Woodson over Ryan. Bill Parcells likes quarterbacks who don't force the football into an area where it shouldn't be thrown and Matt Ryan does that, Andre Woodson does not.

December 31, 2007  01:51 AM ET

I don't feel that Woodson needs a lot of polishing. He could improve on his mechanics a little bit, but that's an easy problem to fix. If you give him one offseason, he can fix that. A much bigger problem to fix is trying to stop Matt Ryan from turning the football over. He doesn't see the field very well and I don't think you can teach that to a quarterback. I don't think it's possible to teach a person to have good vision. Matt Ryan doesn't have it.

I see Matt Ryan as having a much bigger problem on relying on his arm strength too much that Andre Woodson. Andre Woodson doesn't force the football into areas where he shouldn't. He knows when, where, and how to put the football onto a certain area.

December 31, 2007  01:55 AM ET

Glenn Dorsey won't go to a 2-gap team in the top 5. He's this year's Alan Branch. Alan Branch at this time last year was expected to go to the Browns with the #3 pick in the draft, but instead, he fell to the Arizona Cardinals in the 2nd round.

December 31, 2007  02:14 AM ET

Branch was no way he was going top 3

Amobi Okoye was a MUCH higher rated DT

SASPURS2001 | 12/30/07

Funny thing is that Bulger didn't play many games this year due to injury. Should the Rams wait around to groom an eventual (or immediate) successor.

Finding a franchise or even serviceable QB is never easy. Ask the Falcons, Panthers, Niners, and nearly a third of the NFL on that one.

December 31, 2007  05:18 AM ET

The Rams have lucked out in having a continuous string of QB's they could rely on from Green to Warner to Bulger. But that doesn't mean they can't scout out new QB's.
