Same as the number one pick in 2007 was

LDT

Despite a VERY slow start until Norv figured out Hey- I might need to give that guy the ball once or twice a game and maybe I'll win a few of these sundays.

LDT STILL led the league in rushing by 102
LDT STILL led the league in rushing TDs by 3 over AD

and as long as running backs rule the NFL Fantasy I'll take him

(note: this TD is based on the following criteria

1. No injuries- all players are assumed healthy at the start of the 2008 season

2. no major trades- IE Brady has not been traded to Miami or AD has not been traded to seattle

3. Normal, standard fantasy points IE no 200 points for each yard passing and 1 point for each 50 rushing yards)

Before I make my argument I agree w/ the criteria David has put forth above. Now, I gotta go w/ Tom Brady; i mean, the guy just had the greatest TD throwing season of ALL-TIME. He's got all the weapns around him to be successful and he was consistenly a high scorer ALL SEASON while LT took some time to get going. He AVERAGED 31.2 points/game this year; that's unheard of. He was the leading scorer in fantasy this year by 74 total points which is almost 5 points difference PER GAME which can make or break a team. A guy that won my league had Brady which made up for other deficiencies in his roster. Can you imagine trotting a QB out there every sunday and not worrying about him throwing picks or scoring poorly ? RB's like LT always have a better chance of getting shut down than QB's like Brady do.

How did Peyton do the year after HE set the record? Not quite as good-

one year record breakers are great- but normally do not hold up the following year

For those who need to look- Peyton went DOWN from 49 to 28 TDs
and from 4557 yards to 3747 yards
(http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/M/MannPe00.htm)

Take LDTs WORST year in the last 5

18 Tds 1335 yards plus another 441 in catches

How does that compare with AD or Willie the two best backs this year?

AD 1341 yards rushing- 13 total Tds
Westbrook 1333 rushing 12 Rush Tds

Keep in Mind- that is LDT's WORST year since his rookie year.

If Brady has a drop like the last record holder did- there will be several QB around him.

Brady slump next year ? Yea, that's possible, but a slump for him would still be an incredible year.
LT has a greater chance of being injured and, depending on the defense they're playing and how rivers, etc. is playing that all can affect LT negatively.
Meanwhile, Brady will still have his o-line and all the weapons in-tact. Plus, Brady was good (and will be good) from the get-go while LT can be up and down and, like this year, take time to warm up.

From 2005

Manning slump next year ? Yea, that's possible, but a slump for him would still be an incredible year.
LT has a greater chance of being injured and, depending on the defense they're playing and how rivers, etc. is playing that all can affect LT negatively.
Meanwhile, Manning will still have his o-line and all the weapons in-tact. Plus, Manning was good (and will be good) from the get-go while LT can be up and down and, like this year, take time to warm up.

and yet who is the pick?

the most dominant Fantasy football player since Marshall Faulk

You have to have a stud back to win ANY league- and any person who play fantasy ball knows this

Lets look at QBs for this year

QB YDS TD INT
1 4006 30 8
2 4211 36 19
3 3154 32 11
4 4040 31 14

See and big difference there?

Those are your top 4 QBs IF Brady has a manning-like drop (20 Tds and 800 yards) like Manning did after HIS big year

see any reason to drop a top pick on him?

Nope now look again at LDT's WORST year vs the top 2 backs this year.

see any reason to make him number 1?

I do

I've been playing fantasy football for many years and have multiple titles under my belt. It's nice to have a stud back but not 100% required to win a title. QB's w/ #'s like Brady's don't come along very often so if you scoop him up w/ your 1st pick you will still get 2 picks in a row in the next 2 rounds so you can get 2 decent RB's in one fell swoop of the order. Or, you can take a good rb and a good WR and focus on having a one rb, 3 wr lineup. Either way, if you have Brady, that will make your team be competitive by itself. No need to play the QB carousel and decide who to play each week depending on matchups.

Here's another thing: remember back when LJ was tearing it up and he was the consensus top pick by everyone ? well, i had a new league i had just gotten into and had the # 1 pick. I chose him and kept him for this year and he's brought me more anguish than joy, trust me. LT is capable of sliding some just as much as Brady is, if not more.

Yada Yada Yada

He SAID the NUMBER 1 PICK in the draft. A FANTASY draft. This one is a no-brainer...and the guy picking Brady is the one without a brain.

your biggest mistake was using a patriot everybody hates the pats, so using Brady will give you a loss,

LT is ok, but if Brady still has Moss and Welker, how do you not pick him?

funkybacon do you really think everybody votes with their knowledge, they vote with their heart, or likes, dislikes, its a popularity contest, if you really want true results you should have a panel of true honest fans vote for these TD

hey CCC, thanks for making your point w/out being a jerk or anything and mocking my arguments.

January 1, 2008  01:13 PM ET

Brady. In FFB, its all about the TDs and TB generated 50 of them this year. LT? Not so much.

LT is the clear choice... any other choice and whomever is picking 2nd in your draft should rejoice.
