The 80's were the Best Decade EVER

. . in NBA history

You had the Greatest SG of all time and to some the best player in History in MJ

You have 3 of the best point guards in history with the Purity of Stockton, the never say die of Zeke and the beauty of Magic

add to that 2 of the top 5 PF in history with Barkley & Malone

Centers? We have the Grace of KAJ- the Speed of Hakeem and the Power of Ewing

Depending on how you look at it either the best small forward (6'9, 220) or one of the top 7 players in NBA history with Larry Bird

find me a decade (again- must play at least 6 years in the decade)

Just because the players you listed played in the 80's, it does not mean that it was the best decade

How can the 80s be the best decade for the NBA when only 2 or 3 players you listed were in their primes during that decade? (Bird/Johnson/Kareem)

With the players you listed, you should have chosen the 90s as your decade of choice since most of your listed players did not enter their primes until the 90s

A quick rundown for you

MJ - Yes, he was balling in the 80s, but he didn't become the GOAT until he started winning championships in the 90s - I think winning 6 Championships in the 90s should place Jordan squarely in the 90s and not the 80s

Stockton and Malone - Sure they were good in the 80s - But what were they doing? It wasn't until the 90s when they got into the Finals - and it wasn't until the 90s that Malone won the MVP

Barkley - Had a few good years towards the end of the 80s but he was in his prime during the 90s - Didn't have any real individual or team success until the 90s where he won an MVP and got to the Finals

I'll continue my case in the next round

Jordan Averaged 31.5 points during the 6 years that he played in the 80s

ABOVE his 30.1 career average
2 of the 3 years he lead the league in steals we the 80s
4 times led the league in scoring in the 80s
and claimed 4 first team all NBA defensive awards as well.

The ONLY time he ws in the top 10 in assists was in the 88-89 season

so Yes I think he counts there as well

Stockton

2 of the only 3 years he averaged over 16 ppg was in the 80s
3 of his 5 highest assist per game years we in the 80s
2 of his highest steals per game were in the 80s

and in case you were wondering I would have all the years if I went out to 1992

So yes I'll take him there as well

Malone

3 of his top 5 scoring years in the 80s (w/ 2 of his top 3 the other 2? 91 and 92)
Top rebounding year? 1988 he spent from 90-94 at 11.something
His free throws made - his big years? top three years in the 80s

So I'll take 80s malone as well

-- notice how both players stats kinda peak at the same time?

Sir Charles

I'll do the Q&D here

Top Scoring year 1988
Top Rebounding year 1987
Top year for blocks 1987

So Yes I think I can claim all

Hakeem and Ewing - Both are great centers but they did nothing in the 80s - Hakeem got to the Finals in his second year but did not win MVP nor did he win a championship until the 90s - Ewing didn't get to the Finals until the 90s

In your 2nd round argument - you throw forth plenty of instances where you think the players you listed did better in the 80s than the 90s - but again - they were not in the prime of their careers - Collectively, most of the stars on your list did better in the 90s!!

Barkley had his top scoring year in 1988 - do you think he cares about that or about winning the MVP? And when did he win his MVP? When did he get to the Finals? Not the 80s

Same for Malone and Stockton - Do you think Stockton cares more about his PPG or APG averages or the fact that he got to the Finals? If Malone had such brilliant years in the 80s, then why wasn't it until the 90s that he won his MVP?

Only 4 from your list acheived any success during the 80s - And again - success is measured by awards and championships - not by personal bests in certain statistical categories

I'd much rather watch players in their prime than when they were just starting out

So are you going to whine about who fits in the 80's

The stats show better numbers in the 80s

You are 2 arguments in and have YET to put up a decade

This is worse than the other TD about where one person did nothing but whine that Bosh can't play center!

GEEZ!!

Well this one is tough, you had the Celtics/Lakers going back and forth in the 80's, and the Bulls dynasty in the 90's... I dunno... really tough, but I think I'd have to give the edge to the 80's... it might be biased (being form New England) but... yeah. I reserve the right to change my mind.

It doesn't really matter whether I pick a decade or not - as long as I can prove any other decade is better than the one my opponent chose, it should be good enough - With that said, is it not obvious I am choosing the 90s? I keep talking about how the players my opponent chose did better in the 90s and you think what...I'm talking about the 50s? 60s? 70s? You still hungover from the new year?

Every NBA fan knows the 80s belonged to Bird/Magic and to a lesser extent Kareem and Thomas - I agree with my opponent on this point - But the 90s belong to Jordan and virtually everyone else my opponent named - Dream/Barkley/Malone/Stockton/Ewing

You're going to take Malone's best rebounding year over his MVP year? You're going to take Barkley's best scoring and rebounding years over his MVP year? Gimme a break -_-
