I hate to do this but I have to say its the Boston Red Sox, now i know everyone is hating on Boston but lets be fare here vote not by hate but by facts an opionon, as i was also thinking Detroit but I do not trust their pitching, espicially bullpen

Well while you are right as far as Boston being a love/hate team im going to the central in the A.L.While I am a Yankees fan and would love to say right now they are the best im not so sure about it.SO im going with Detroit. They bring in some key players so far this offseason and really made themselves alot better. They have one of the best starting lineups and could have an excellent rotation. While im not sure that there bullpen is very good but really im not so sure Bostons is all that great either. They kind of faltered down the stretch last year.

ok let me start by saying it all begins with pitching and the sox i think have a great rotation, 1. beckett i really do not have to say anything so i won't waste your or my time on him 2. Matsuzaka won 16 games last yr. and there is no doubt will be ready to take the next step after going through his 1st yr. adjusting to America. 3.its gonna be the rookie Bucholz who only threw a no hitter in his 2nd major league start last yr. and has electric stuff, thats why we do not have Santana sox will not trade this kid, he is like a veteran on the mound nothing phases him,he will win at least 15 games this year the sox groomed him perfect he is ready. 4. its gonna be Wakefield who also won 16 games last yr. and was on pace for 20 til he got hurt yes a 4th starter capable of 20 wins, but you pretty much know what you are gonna get from wake 170-200 innings thats all we need 5. yes #5 Curt Schilling how would you like to have big game Schill as your #5, that leaves out Jon Lester, who is 11-2 in his brief career if their are injuries or he starts as longman in pen, I also disagree with your assertion of pen as it was one of the best in baseball last yr. papelbon, Okijima, delcarmen I will

Overal the Sox pen was great last yr but in the last two months or so it started to go downhill.Im not a huge matsuzaka fan im not so sure hes as good as he started last yr but I could be wrong.Schilling will go down as one of the best but hes not getting any younger.Wakefield had an excellent yr going but being a knuckleballer he is ify sometimes. As for my argument for the Tigers look at this lineup in no order.Pudge,Cabrera,Guillen,Polanco,Renteria,Ordonez,Granderson,Jones and Shef.It really doesnt get a whole lot better than that.As for the pitchers they arent to bad themselves with Willis,Bonderman,Rogers, and Verlander. This team is for real and I feel strongly that they will end up being the best.

its a great lineup i agree remember i am i white sox fan and i have to see it what 19 times, but remember pitching, pitching the sox pitching is really good wait to you see this kid bucholtz omg, plus if they have to they have the chips prospects up the ying yang i mean they have another kid they think could be better than bucholz not ready yet masterson, who they have ifthey got to make a move they could get just about anybody they want at deadline. ok as far as our offense pedrioa who won rookie of year, ellsbury who if bucholz don;t win rookie of year will win it, then you got big papi, manny, lowell, youkalis,JD drew who will have a bounce back year he had personal family issues last yr and once his son was out of clear he had a nice postseason, they you got varitek, and lugo, we have speed on bench, in coco crisp and alex cora, its a good offense, and great pitching, detroit needs to go get bullpen help and they already gave away all their young chips, your best bullpen guy is hurt again his name escapes me he might miss whole year, and papelbon might be best closer in baseball, remember our bullpen faltered last yr, cause we were letting that stiff gagne pitch .

Alright well never refer to the Tigers as my team lol I root against them all the time lol.But like I said the Sox are going to be good again I dont see another repeat of this past year though.gagne wasnt the only problem even though he was the bulk of it.I dont really believe J.D Drew will bounce back I think hes in for another rough one.Big Papi and Manny are by far your best players and while I think they are great I think you will need more than those two to be crowned the best this year.I give a pitching edge to the sox because there bullpen is better even if they did struggle a little. But I give the Tigers a bigger edge in offense and you will need that as well.

i will state my reasons why in next arguement

January 1, 2008  07:11 PM ET

They might not be the best right now but watch out for the Angels and Arizona. What? Arizona? I know, but watch out with Webb, Haren, Johsnon coming back and more experience.

January 1, 2008  07:21 PM ET

Detroit has a stacked field so far in the offseason by acquiring the D-Train & Cabrera from the Marlins. They have a pitcher in Verlander, 1st baseman in Guillen, catcher in Rodriquez & the BEST player on the roster, Curtis Granderson.

January 1, 2008  07:38 PM ET

You have to have Schilling ahead of Wakefield in your rotation.

January 1, 2008  07:45 PM ET

no he his gonna be the 5 starter i live in boston, i listen to talk radio every day
schill already said he wants to be 5th starter to get those extra days off i ran out of space to finish what i wanted to say and what do you think willis was not good the last yr an half an he will get lit up in american league and are you saying verlander is better than beckett.

January 1, 2008  08:14 PM ET

It's always Red Sox vs Tigers in these kind of TDs. The Angels continue to be vastly underrated.

January 1, 2008  08:16 PM ET

I agree coletrain, check out my first comment.

January 1, 2008  08:17 PM ET

i would say Cleveland

January 1, 2008  08:18 PM ET

i agree with that and i do not think there done tweaking lineup

January 1, 2008  08:18 PM ET

The angels, indians and the yanks may come up at the end of the yr but as of now none of them are there.

January 1, 2008  08:19 PM ET

i mean the angels they have good pitching to i just think sox are a little better

January 1, 2008  08:21 PM ET

i say the only reason the Indians lost to Boston was cause of lack of playoff experience, plus Detroit doesn't have the bullpen for the stretch, plus Boston pitching rotation won't be as strong with Wakefield and Schilling getting older

January 1, 2008  08:22 PM ET

I think it's the Red Sox and Angels. The Angels have more dependable pitching than the Tigers and the line-up was improved this offseason. And the Angels bullpen is way better than the Tigers'.

January 1, 2008  08:22 PM ET

i think the Indians have a better pitching staff than Boston and Detroit

January 1, 2008  08:23 PM ET

hey again i am just being an honest baseball fan here i love white sox i grew up on red sox but once my idol left for chicago many years ago pudge fisk i am all whitesox but i have to give props to as i call them to my friends the boston dead sox they are here to stay for awhile guys so get use to it they got money , tons of prospects you gotta see the kids they gotin minors i good young ss, and do not forget beckett is only 27

January 1, 2008  08:25 PM ET

well the indians did not prove it when it counted as CC and Carmona got shelled in playoffs against the deads

January 1, 2008  08:27 PM ET

the reason the Red Sox beat the Indians in the playoffs is becuase the Red Sox are the better team.

ugh that hurt to type.

January 1, 2008  08:29 PM ET

its the sox, no questions asked boys

January 1, 2008  08:32 PM ET

i say that was lack of playoff experience, only one of there starters had playoff experience and that was Kenny Lofton

January 1, 2008  08:32 PM ET

i have one question, actually: why is this throwdown happening in January? it shouldn't happen til Spring Training at the earliest. it's far too soon to tell who's the best.
