SIFS Tourney: What should Bill Parcells do with the head coach situation in Miami?

OK, so this is the "Losers Bracket" of the SIFS Tourney. Basically, just say what you think Bill Parcells should do with the head coach situation in Miami, assuming all the candidates out there would accept his offer.

Alright, to start off, Parcells should DEFINITELY start the process by firing Cam Cameron. Not only does Cameron appear to be an unqualified and unprepared head coach, but it is becoming not such a secret that he rubs everyone else the wrong way with his overzealous religious views and bizarre behavior.

So, with a 1-15 team on his hands, what is Parcells to do? Well, he is in the fortunate position of having a relatively close groups of players who are well behaved, so he doesn't have to worry about mutiny like in Atlanta. We also know Parcells likes defense, right?

So I say, go with a first time coach, a moderately young guy with a lot of smarts and a tough-but-not-cruel attitude. I say: hire Rex Ryan.

To start, the 45 year old Ryan LOVES defense. He is arguably the NFL's most creative defensive mind. He is tough, but all of his players love him. He has a good family pedigree. And in his 3 years as a DC, no one has had a better cumulative defense.

He's the guy.

Well, Cameron is gone. We all knew that was going to happen. Know, what should Parcells and Ireland do with the position.

Should he go big name or new guy? If he goes big name, all it does is promote the pressure on the team. If they hire Marty Schottenheimer, then they are suddenly expected to turn it around quickly, which obviously is outrageous. If they hire someone who is young and hasn't been a head coach, they set themselves up in a rebuilding mode. With all of that said, they should hire a new coach.

Rex Ryan is a good coach, but the Ravens defense has slipped from its production a bit. We saw the Colts embarrass them, and we saw them embarrass themselves versus the Ravens. Ryan can't get his own players to act like adults, how could he get DeAngelo Hall or Roddy White to not be stupid?

Mike Singletary is my guy. Singletary is one of the toughest players in NFL history. The idiots on the team would recognize that and give him his respect.

We've already seen what Mike Singletary can do with young talent. He turned Pat Willis into a star. He's played on the greatest defense in NFL history. He could turn around this defense.

Well, Cameron is out, so we know how that went...

Anyway, I am not so sure I follow your third paragraph. You say Ryan can't get his own players to act like adults... well, aside from Bart Scott, who has been a loudmouth through his whole life, the Ravens D is pretty mature. I mean, lots of good teams have big mouths.

You also say if he won't be able to control guys like Roddy White and DeAngelo Hall.. well, that shouldn't be much of a problem. Both of them play for the Falcons. We're talking Dolphins here, remember? Plus, the Dolphins are not a team in revolt. For a team so bad, we have heard surprisingly little about guys lashing out. They may not be great players, but they aren't bad people down there.

And don't fool yourself over Ryan. He can yell. I've seen training camp footage of him. Oh boy, he can yell. However, he is not overly abrasive, and his players love him.

Also, please tell me about this slip in production, cause I haven't seen it. Let me tell you something: The front 7 has been healthy all year. They are second in rush defense, and FIRST in opponent ypc.
The secondary is where the "slipped". HOWEVER, the starting corners missed 19 of 32 games. Not Ryan's fault

Fire Cameron and hire Rex Ryan...

VERY NICE!!!!!

Exactly what I said in an earlier TD

garrett to develop a qb

The question is, though... Can the young Garrett be the head coach?

Remember, he was offensive quality control for only like 2 years in Miami... not exactly a very good position.

Then he was... IS... ASSISTANT offensive co-ordinator in Dallas for just one year so far.

Don't get me wrong, I am not knocking the guy at all 'cause I love him, but for a team that needs so much rebuilding, I think he just is too inexperienced. No way Parcells hires him, nor should he.

I think he either needs to hang around Dallas a few more years as an OC, or he needs to take over a team in a better position. Like... the Ravens or possibly the Panthers or something.

Remember, he is the HEAD COACH. You bring in an offensive co-ordinator to develop a young quarterback, you bring in a HEAD COACH to manage a team.

HCs are so busy anyways, Garrett wouldn't have a lot of time to hang around practice going over film and footwork with a guy like John Beck.

I agree with Eagle on this one. All good teams bring in OCs to develop QBs. Peyton Manning with Tom Moore. Tom Brady with Charlie Weis. Good QBs are given an assistant whose job is to train them in the offense. That's why Peyton is like the OC now. He's spent so much time with Moore that he's memorized the offense.

Kinda ran out of room in my last paragraph, but what I am saying is this:

In the front 7, where they are TOTALLY HEALTHY, they have been arguably the best defense in the NFL. Where they appear to have slipped is the secondary, but their starting corners, including All-Pro Chris McAlister, missed MORE GAME than they played this year (19 of 32 games featured either one or neither corner playing.)

Kinda hard to play the pass when your top 2 corners are out. And the Ravens STILL finished 6th in overall defense.

ravens played 32 games this year? nice.

Report Offensive Comment

No you fool... I was talking about two players, in a 16 game season. 16 multiplied by 2 is equal to 32...

I see what you are saying. My sentence "(19 of 32 games featured either one or neither corner playing.)" WAS a bit strange sounding, but I think what I said around it and in my argument gave it context enough to be clear what I meant.

F* CK!!!!

I had my argument all typed up, but I was distracted before I could post it!Then time ran out! Tear...

Ugh... this TD was a mess LOL

Vote to Irish R but Singletary won't get this job.

It seems to be Tony Sparano's job to lose.

Report Offensive Comment

Tough one to vote on, and not in a good way. I'll vote for the guy with less forfeited arguments.
