Belichick should not have gotten the Coach of the Year award. How he got that I don't know. He probably cheated on that too. But seriously, did people forget that he actually cheated? A guy cheats and you want him as coach of the year?Crennell also deserved it more than McCarthy so the whole thing, I think, is screwed up. But McCarthy, if not Crennell, should have won it over Belicock.
Terpsfan is Maxwell Smart said 01/03, 04:04 PM
I agree with you, that Belicheck maybe should've been left off because of this scandal, but look at what he's done:
Taken them to an undefeated season
Made them the highest scoring offense in history
Dealt with Randy Moss (a somewhat distraction on the sideline)
Helped that aging defense still look good (4th in yardage allowed)
And made the perfect system to fit Brady, Moss, Welker, and Stallworth
Look, I wouldn't give it to Crennell, because earlier in the year, he said that he would have to flip a coin to see who his starting QB was. Now after week 1 they trade the starter, and make Anderson the starter. Anderson has looked stellar, but why didn't he notice in the preseason? I can't give it to him for that (even though he's done a good job with rebuilding that team).
Mccarthy meanwhile either rejuvinated Favre, or Favre rejuvinated the Packers. I think Favre started playing well, and then the entire team started to follow. But I won't lie, he has helped that team defensively to be one of the better teams.
But other than the undefeated season, the reason Bellicheck won it, was because he was the best at inspiring his team, and keeping them motivated.

This a world where most all people focus on the bad things that happen, and when they finally get a fair chance to do that, they look the other way and give it to the bad guy. This is not fair at all to McCarthy and Crennell who didn't cheat. Yea Belicheck HELPED them do all of those things on that list. But to do all of those spectacular things, it's mostly the talent on the field. He barely had to coach at all. It's like Joe Torre and the Yankees. He didn't have to coach. He had all the players he need to win games. Romeo and McCarthy had horrible years last year. Belicheck didnt. If I told you that Browns and the Packers would make a run for the playoffs, you guys woulda told me to put my crack pipe down. If I told you that New England was going to the playoffs, you woulda told me, yea, no crap idiot. The things McCarthy and Crennell did to these teams, the strides they took to make them win again are much more challenging than taking a winning team, then making them into a winning team. The Browns have only had one winning season season 1999, where they had to start all over again. Now this year, they go 10-6, and still don't make the playoffs, AND Romeo doesn'tgetCOYmakesMEsik

Oh no, you're right man, you know what the Pats should do with Bellickeck, they should just get rid of him, all that talent, heck Bellickeck is just wasting cap room.........
You could have all the talent in the world and not win, you still need a coach to call the plays, a coach to lead the team, a coach to motivate the team, a coach to find out what the team is doing wrong. The coach is still needed.
"This a world where most all people focus on the bad things that happen..."
Yeah, like when people focus on spygate, dude it's over, let it go, he had the greatest season a coach can have with an undefeated season. And anyway, spygate should make him get rid of all the awards he had before this season (since that's when most of the "cheating" took place). Bellicheck deserved it, his team had the best season of all time, and he lead them to it.
Plus if I told you the Pats would go undefeated, you would go, "No way" you would say that Moss would go crazy, and start to slack off. You would've said the aging defense would've killed them, but Bellicheck pulled it off.
Every one you mentioned was deserving, but an undefeated season is almost impossible to have.
ROYALwCHEESE BS CB MS 2179 66 said 01/03, 05:13 PM
How am I right that they should let Bill go, when I never even said that? Yea, spygate is over, but he still cheated. What? Now you think Barry Bonds should be sportsman of the year. Come on. the chase is over and they never proved that he knew he was taking roids. Shut the **** up. If some cheated 75 years ago, or if someone cheated today, does that mean the guy who cheated 75 years ago isn't a cheater cause, well, he's not cheating anymore. No. Once a cheater always a cheater. Young you'd rather take Bill over the guys who cleanly took some **** teams and turn them into contenders, they don't deserve COY because, hey, they didn't **** win 16 games in a row. They don't have playmakers that get on SportCenter top 10. You remember that the Browns lost to the Steelers by 27 at home? Yea, that team went 10-5 from then on. You know, I'm sorry that you just don't get what I'm saying, and you don't know how much winning cleanly means to people. Some people can cheat all they want and get away with it and look like a good person, when really they're not. The people who do it clean, don't get the credit. This award to Belichick is a bad example to American football fans.
Terpsfan is Maxwell Smart said 01/03, 05:22 PM
You never did say to cut him, but you said it was mostly the talent, so the coach shouldn't really matter, if it's mostly talent.
Look, as I said earlier, COY is given to the person is smartest with his team, inspires them the most, and ultimately leads them to a positive season. How can a man who FLIPS A COIN FOR THE STARTING QB be awarded the coach of the year.
Once again I say to you young man, let it go.....
Spygate is over, you can't bring it up now, do you know how much it takes to recover from the entire league thinking you're cheaters? Do you understand that the NFL was watching them even HARDER after this? I find it almost impossible that they were still cheating, but Bellickeck lead them to an undefeated season.
And don't talk to me about the teams didn't have playmakers
BROWNS:
Derek Anderson
Braylon Edwards
Joe Thomas
Jama; Lewis (did a whole lot better than with the Ravens)
PACKERS:
Brett Favre (The greatest QB ever to this point)
Donald Driver
Greg Jennings
Ryan Grant
Charles Woodson
Every good team has playmakers, Bellicheck didn't cheat this year, and if he did, how do we know that every other coach didn't?

AGAIN: No one who had to flip a coin to choose his starting QB should get a coach of the year award (and this is also ignoring the fact that Frye won).

Can people PLEASE get overthemselves calling him a cheater! His team had a guy taping another team in the first game of the season. A tape that was never used by anyone for any purpose. There was NO CHEATING. It may be "attempted cheating", but there was zero cheating involved. He then guided his team to the first 16-0 regular season record in the history of the NFL.

I just see COY as more of a turn around award. My 1-3 took some below average teams to great hights.

Not just turn arounds, but achievements, and Bellicheck is the 2nd coach in history to do so.

It was a "joke" that got Charlie Frye named the starter. Honestly, if you're that bad at judging talent, you shouldn't be COTY. And find a better way than tossing a nickel in the air.

Its all opinion oriented Terps. You can look at it a lot of ways thats just how I choose to. I dont disagree with the selection though, no one prepares his players better than Bill.

Bears did it twice, in the 1930s and 1940s, so not in the SB era.

McCarthy use to be Brett's QB coach, McCarthy brung talent for Favre so Favre could use his talent, he brang Favre back to his prime and created a great defense, I don't think any coach could have came to a team as young as GB and switched things around the way he did and as fast as he did.

Pack Man, the head coach isn't usually in charge of bringing in talent that's the GM's job, but if bringing in talent is one of the requirements, Bellicheck brought in Welker, Stallworth, and Moss.

They do play a roll in the talent department, maybe not a big one, but McCarthy has an eye for it, Bellicheck has had his team for years, McCarthy came in to GB just over a year ago.
