The team most likely to do well next year in the NFL if they gain a good (not great) quarterback (team cannot have a winning record from this year)

Rules: pick first, argue second and third

The team most likely to succeed in the NFL if they get a decent quarterback is the Minnesota Vikings.

i would have to go with the ravens.

The Minnesota Vikings have the bast running game in the NFL. In addition, they have the best rushing defense in the NFL. They may have the most passing yards allowed on defense, but they also face the most passing attempts against them of any team in the NFL, and they are in the middle of the pack in yards per pass attempt allowed. The Vikings D is in the top 10 in points allowed, and they also lead the league in defensive touchdowns. The Vikings went on a five game winning streak when Tavaris Jackson was for a time able to throw the ball efficiently, if not being able to torch teams. If you get a decent quarterback who can make passes to open recievers, the Vikings offense would be much better. Teams are forced to load up 8 men in the box, and teams even had their cornerbacks peaking in the backfiled as well. This would allow a decent quarterback to pass efficiently. with a decent quarterback, the vikings offense would become one of the best in the league.

baltimore has a great defense still but they are on the field way too much. if they had the qb who can just keep the clock rolling and not make stupid mistakes like kyle boller did they would be right back in the playoffs with a division champs shirt on their backs. mcgahee had a really good year considering every team stack 8 men in the box every down and teed off on him. if he had a legit solid qb to take some attention away that could be a dangerous team again. they already have a big play receiver and a tight end to throw to in mason and heap but dont have the qb to get it there. minnesota also has proll the best line in football and that really made the backs what they were. peterson awesome but you can thtink it was all him. he wouldnt get touched til the secondary. both teams would improve immensely from a qb but baltimore's only weakness really is qb. even if they had dilfer back they would be a much better team. he didnt lose games for them and neither did tarvaris..thats the problem with boller...he made dumb throws that lost games for them and wasted great defensive efforts. minesota needs a bon fide sud qb to make a big difference for them to make up for their lack @wr.

Tavaris Jackson never lost games for the Vikes? Who are you kidding. To begin with, in many of the Vikings wins, having Kyle Boller instead of Tavaris back there would have made no difference at all. almost all of the Vikings wins were in blowouts in which any QB in the league would have won for the Vikings, and in the 3 close wins for the Vikes, the 2 against the Bears and the one against Oakland, 2 of those were won by the running game (AD running for 224 and C. Taylor over 200 total yards from scrimmage), and the last game against the Bears was close only because the many mistakes Tavaris kept making. With a decent QB, many of the close games the Vikings lost would have been wins. Tavaris throwing 4 INT's against Detroit in week 2, get they loose by 3 in overtime. Loosing in overtime to Denver by fumbling in the opponents field goal range. Loosing to KC. Many of the Vikings losses were close losses where the Vikings had a chance to win, but couldn't because of Jackson's inability to produce. Baltimore lost a lot of games in blowouts, and there werre many losses where a better QB would not have allowed the Ravens to win.

he played awful against washington, green bay both times, denver, philly, and dallas. that was my point they were basically the same...they lost games for the two teams. a servicable guy would do much more for baltimore because the yhave more weapons than minnesota. baltimores d had played well enough to win games for them if they had a decent guy back there. minnesota wouldnt be a playoff team because their would still be 6 other teams better than them...GB, DAL, TB, SEA, PHI, WAS, NYG and CHI are all better teams. the bears almost beat them and should have beat them both times with like a half of their original team. They lost to four of those teams and will not be better than them for a while. Baltimore still has the same team as last year without consistent qb play of mcnair. if they had him still they would be a playoff team again in a tougher conference.

Good luck. This may be a confusing title, but what I mean is this: Pick the team that would do the best if they had a servisable quarterback, not a great one, and the team cannot have a winning record.

When I first saw the TD I thought, "Gee, who is he going to pick?" Guess what? It was the Vikings!

However, I actually find myself agreeing with GaretJax.

January 4, 2008  12:37 PM ET

Hey, Porkins, see my other throwdown. It doesn't include the Vikes at all.

January 4, 2008  12:43 PM ET

i was leaning a little to the bears because im a bears fan but i figured they need a rb and a couple linemen first and foremost because rex will be back and he played great before getting hurt. i think he finally figures out how to play qb on a consistent basis. give him some protection and someone to hand the ball to and he will be good.

January 4, 2008  12:48 PM ET

Response to jsar: 8-8 is not a losing record, but it is not a winning recod either. It is a .500 record. Vote however, goes to Garet.

January 4, 2008  12:52 PM ET

I said can't have a winning record, I did not say the team needs a loosing record

January 4, 2008  12:54 PM ET

Got news for ya, back21, Rex won't even be your starter next year, if he's even on the team. Not real sure why you'd want him. If the Bears don't go after someone new; McNabb, Anderson, the starter will be Orton. And he would be the smart choice, after all, he's like 20-6 as a starter. His big knock is durability.

January 4, 2008  01:01 PM ET

Orton is 11-6 in games where he takes a significant number of stats. He has a career 52% completion percentage, a 62.2 rating, and more Int's than TD's.

Start the Super Bowl parade! Bears are going all the way with him!

January 4, 2008  01:05 PM ET

Bears are also loosing Urlacker to Arthritis on his lower spine, so some of the Bears defense is also being removed.

January 4, 2008  01:06 PM ET

ramdrum, I didn't say he was great, just that he's the best the Bears got right now. Obviously, from my handle, you can tell I'd love to see them stick with Rex, but he's history.

January 4, 2008  01:13 PM ET

I believe the Ravens should have a good QB with the maturization and development of Troy Smith. McNair is over the hill, and Boller is just ineffective. So I believe the Vikes are more in need of drafting a good QB because Tavaris Jackson is not the answer for them. Good TD by the way.

January 4, 2008  01:14 PM ET

I think Griese is the best they got right now. But, it's kid of like choosing between a pig, a gorilla, and a sea cow in a beauty contest.

Uhh......the gorilla???

They're pretty hosed with anyone they've got now.

January 4, 2008  01:22 PM ET

his back is fine and he showed it the last three games. 5 picks five sacka. rex played awesome before he got hurt. and it would be stupid to get injury prone mcnabb and derek anderson because they need the draft picks and money to get a lineman and a back. rex was awesome when he had a running game and a line.....get him some coherent talent instead of the bums he has and he will be very good. orton is 12-6 as a starter.....grossman is 20-8 as a starter including the playoffs and took the bears to the superbowl. the only people that say he cant do it are the ones who dont get to watch him week after week and see how much different of a qb he was after he came back...he was throwing the samrt passes to the tight ends and backs when nothing downfield was there instead of bombing it like he used to. no qb can be successful without someone to give the ball to whos good and have al ine that can pass protect.

January 4, 2008  01:31 PM ET

Yes Minnesota has an awesome running game great run defense, and yes I think they would better with a more experience quarter back. Jackson is good but doesn't have the experience or leadership to get that team to the BOWL.

January 4, 2008  01:35 PM ET

Urlacher will be gone in the next year or 2 from his back. He had a down season, and even if he finnished strong, a lot of thet was against teh Vikes, who the bears were motivated comming in because of Petersons 224 yards earlier in the year.

January 4, 2008  01:39 PM ET

he also had picks in three straight games and a td. hes fine. the bears will be good again next year because they will be healthy.

January 4, 2008  02:20 PM ET

How would you define "servicable"? Jackson is servicable. Low turnovers - good caretaker of the game. Not a star, but not a bust - he's "servicable." The Ravens QB situation is a god-awful nightmare.

January 4, 2008  03:20 PM ET

hungry hungry hippo's, how is jackson, with his QB rating in the 60's, servicable. He is in no way a servicible quarterback. He thows picks at too high a rate for how little he passes. He misses open recievers, and his decision making is horrible.
