I say that Memphis is the best college basketball team. They have weapons. Derrick Rose( One of the best freshmen), and Chris Douglas-Roberts( One of the best spot out shooters). They can score, play defense, anything. More argument to come.

Its gotta be NC, they have great weapons, Hansborough (All-AMerican, avg over 20 pts per game) Wayne Ellington avgover 16 pts a game as a sophomore and lawson and green who avg over 10 pts per game.

Let's take a look at each team's quality wins:

Memphis: Oklahoma, Conneticut, USC, Georgetown, Arizona.

UNC: Brigham Young, Ohio State.

That's 5 quality wins to 2. Memphis wins.

Memphis gives up less points per game, but even though UNC scores more points, defense wins championships.

Now let's look at close games. Games decided by 5 points or less.

Memphis: 1.

UNC: 1.

So what I'm getting at is this: Memphis plays a tougher schedule, but still has the same amount of close games. Plus, Memphis' close game was against a pretty good USC, but UNC's was against a horrible Davidson.

Memphis may have a tougher schedule now but they play in a conference far worse than the ACC youll see that when conference play and UNC has to face actually decent teams I dont know if you can count Oklahoma or USC real quality win neithe rhave beaten a great team so how can they be quality wins

Okay, maybe UNC will have a better schedule when conference play starts, but this throwdown is about right now! As of right now, Memphis has a harder schedule with a bigger points margine, whicn means that that are the better team.

Also, they have a better defense, and defense wins championships.

I rest my case.

ok you have said they have a better defense and defense wins championships in ur last 2 arguements come up with a better arguement defense is geat no duh use something else.there is only a five point difference between UNC and Memphis PPG allowed and almost 8 difference in PPG and their big margins of victories you are talking about have come against Siena, Pepperdine, Tennesee-Martin, Austin Peay, Arkansas state, and middle tennesee the only good team that they had a bi margin was by Georgetown and it was by 14 not a huge margin so these huge wins arent against great teams UNC easily is the best team thats why they are 1 in the AP and Coaches Poll

Good luck.

UNC is not the best team in the country. they have had a easy schedule. They have yet to prove themselves. and they wont get out of the acc with less than 4 losses

January 4, 2008  06:12 PM ET

this UNC team is a virtual twin to the championship team. lightening quick PG, a bull of a center. a sweet shooting 2 guard. a defenseive stopper ( jackie manuel and Ginyard). great 6th man, very deep. sound familar?
not saying they will go all the way. far from it. they gotta learn how to play defense for 40 minutes first. but then again so did the 05 team. and they ended up alright.

Memphis palys in the C-USA it's not hard to understand. Memmphis plays hard during thier non-conference schedule. Then through conference play all they had to do is take it easy. Then they rested for the tournament. The ACC is a brutal confernce with Duke and many other teams that have the potential to step out on the court and do something

January 4, 2008  06:49 PM ET

Who is another team that can do something in the ACC?

VCU :-D

duke? you know the team that is one of 2 teams in the top 5 in both O and D effeniency. the other team? marquette a team duke beat.

anyways, ncstate, clemson, miami, virginia, hell even wake are all teams that would probably finish 2nd in the C-USA.

January 4, 2008  08:27 PM ET

duke

January 4, 2008  08:33 PM ET

davidson isnt horrible, davidson has one of the best shooters in the country and have played the hardest schedule in the country

January 4, 2008  08:37 PM ET

great analysis coming from blue devils bolts - definitely going to be impartial about this throwdown....o wait duke SUCKS this year

January 5, 2008  09:21 AM ET

Other than UNC and Duke is what I meant.

January 5, 2008  12:37 PM ET

Douglas-Roberts, to me anyways, seems to be more of a penetrator in the lane than a spot-up shooter from the outside.

Next, I don't think Oklahoma is that quality of a win. Also, Davidson is NOWHERE NEAR horrible. They have a very skilled backcourt with Stephen Curry (25 pts, 5 reb, 3 ast) and Jason Richards (13 pts, 3 reb, 9 ast). Both of which have a good chance at making it at the next level, in my opinion. Their losses? Nothing to be ashamed of. North Carolina, Duke, UCLA, and NC State have been their opponents in most of them. The Wildcats have been playing an extremely tough schedule.

Finally, the ACC, as it looks now, could have as many as EIGHT teams in the NCAA Tournament. That would be North Carolina, Duke, Clemson, Miami, Florida State, Virginia, Boston College, and NC State. The Atlantic Coast isn't some chump conference with only two good teams. The Big East and themselves have to be the two best in the entire country.

Defending Memphis though, they do have fantastic talent and depth, and their non-conference schedule is one of the toughest of any top team. I was very impressed with them when I watched the Georgetown game. I'll wait for GolferBoy to give at least one more argument before I vote, however. Have a good weekend.

January 5, 2008  05:42 PM ET

Who has UNC blew out?

January 5, 2008  05:52 PM ET

A blowout, to me, is at least 15 points. Here they are:
Iona
South Carolina State
Old Dominion
Pennsylvania
Rutgers
UC Santa Barbara
Nevada
Valparaiso
Kent State

Here are the teams that Memphis has blown out:
Tennessee-Martin
Richmond
Arkansas State
Austin Peay
Middle Tennessee State
Siena
Pepperdine

In conclusion, neither team has "blown out" a ranked opponent. So I ask you, if UNC has not blown out anyone of talent, has Memphis? The closest they came was 14 to Georgetown, and I watched the game. Roy Hibbert did absolutely NOTHING when he was in.

January 5, 2008  07:46 PM ET

vote to dwade,I think Memphis is best too,I even made a td about it and lost,I agree with Dwade, but In my td it was the same topic and I made a much better argument and lost. What did I notice though?UNC fans were voting for my opponent.

Memphis has the fastest PG in College Basketball (Derrick Rose)
Memphis has the best slasher in College Basketball (Chris Douglas-Roberts)
Memphis has a top 5 lockdown defender in College Basketball (Antonio Anderson)
Memphis has the best defensive big man in College Basketball (Joey Dorsey)
Memphis has another NBA prospect who averaged 18 ppg in wins vs Georgetown and Arizona (Robert Dozier)
Memphis has the best bench in College Basketball (Willie Kemp and Doneal Mack are tied for best 3 point shooters on the team, Jeff Robinson was a top 40 recruit nationally, Shawn Taggart is easily the best backup big man in College Basketball, any of these players would start on most other teams.)

Memphis is the best team in College Basketball.

January 6, 2008  09:15 AM ET

Roydell, Ty Lawson could possibly be the fastest PG in college basketball.

actually felton i think there is one team better than memphis, and unc. and it isnt duke. Kansas anybody? they have experience and chemistry. all i said was that unc hasnt played a tough schedule. Duke desnt suck. They, unlike the ramchops, have played a good schedule and are 3-1 against ranked opponents this year, including a 1-1 record against top 10 opponents. The Clemson game tonight will tell us all where they are since its there first test this year. As for dwade asking who can do something out of the acc...There isnt an acc team with a losing record. I dont think there is any other conference in the country that can say that. 9 out of 12 teas have double digit wins and are at least 8 games above 500. The acc also has 3 1 loss teams and an undefeated team.
