Jackie Robinson's first MLB game(first african-american to play baseball), (April 15, 1947).
RUGator said 01/04, 11:14 PM
As a societal, cultural event, there's no argument with Jackie. However, from an on the field game situation point of view (too many Philadelphia lawyers around here!), Thomson's hit has the most appeal. Giant Dodger rivalry was incredible intense, the Giants had come back from a huge deficit to catch the Dodgers, the way the game unfolded (Dodgers up, at the Polo Grounds), Giants crawl back into in, they chase Newcombe late in the game, New York WAS baseball and baseball was king of sports, daytime everyone listening, the generation that grew up with those memories passed much of the passion of the game to us, nowadays, etc.

One man the Dodger club president Branch Rickey had a vision. His vision was a little crazy. A black man playing in the MLB. through hard work his vision was fufilled.
Then at Jackie's first game people were heckling Jackie Robinson screaming ******* at him, and screaming other racial slurs. And then Pewee Reese put his arm around his shoulder and said that, Jackie was his teamate and his friend. That was one of the beggings of the Civil Rights movements, with Dr. Martin Luther King.
Every baseball fan knows the story of Jackie Robinson, it is one of those things that you cannot go through life knowing. Almost like how to count to 3. It is something everyone knows. It is something that revolutionized the game of baseball.
Not that many people can remember Bobby Thomson's "Shot heard 'round the world." (1951 NL Playoff game Giants vs. Brooklyn). It was a great moment indeed but in my opinion Jackie Robinson's first game was like the climax of the game of basebal sort-of like a story. The 'Shot heard 'round the world'," was a great moment but it was after, also like a book there is the dramatic part Jackie Robinson's game, and then the little parst after the climax.

Pitt: "Not that many people can remember Bobby Thomson's "Shot heard 'round the world." (1951 NL Playoff game Giants vs. Brooklyn). " Are you kidding me? Any baseball fan with a sense of history (and what baseball fan doesn't), knows about Thomson's home run. All one has to do, is get a hold of Ken Burns' Baseball Series (the episode called "The Capital of Baseball) and watch it to understand the magnitude of that game and that hit.
As I said earlier, there is no debate about Jackie's impact on the game (and sports) as a whole. The argument was about the moment. I know what you're trying to argue, but it's not the point.
Pittfan*BS says Barack Obama said 01/06, 08:01 PM
Jackie has impacted the world not just sports. Because of him Hank Aaron was givin the chance to break the record. He inspired so many black people to hang in there even when times were bad that there was a light at the end of the tunnel and if they stuck in there that maybe they would stop being treated like garbage and be treated like the Humans that they are. The Civil Rights movements began around his time, with help from him. He is not just a sports hero he changed the history of America and the rest of the world. And if that is not the most dramatic moment people can think of than I do not know what is.

2004 ALCS. Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees. Game 4. Extra Innings. Big Papi up. Pitch by Mariano Rivera. Swing. BAM. Gone. Red Sox win. Starts biggest comeback in baseball playoff history.

Report Offensive CommentIsn't it obvious. Babe Ruth's called shot. If one of you picked that, it would have been a sure win

Report Offensive CommentYeah, that was dramatic, but the Red Sox were already up 3 games to none and a grounder and an underhand toss is nothing compared to a home run. Plus, i only got to watch the World Series on a 5 inch by 5 inch or something screen. Being there was a lot more dramatic.

No it wouldn't because it never happened. Ruth never called his shot in that game against the Cubs. They were jabbering at him all day long from the dugout, all he did was point his bat in their general direction while jawing back at them. Some idiot sportswriter decided from across the field that Ruth was actually calling his shot with no clue what was actually going on.
