07:09 AM ET 05.15 | From St. Louis, the Mets are handling top pitching prospect Zack Wheeler with care. [Wheeler] is heading back to New York to be examined by team doctors after he complained of soreness in his right collarbone. "I think we're being a little bit conservative given who it is and making sure our guys see him right away," assistant general manager John Ricco said. Wheeler, 22, likely will miss his next scheduled outing. The righthander first mentioned the soreness on Monday, two days after his previous outing for Triple-A Las Vegas. Wheeler showed no sign of an injury as his velocity registered in his typical range. Nevertheless, Ricco said the Mets opted to take a cautious approach.

12:15 PM ET 05.14 | Washington Nationals left fielder Bryce Harper was involved in a scary incident on Monday night after chasing down a fly ball from Los Angeles Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis. Harper ran face first in to the wall and crumbled to the ground. The particular part of the wall that Harper hit had no padding and it resulted in a cut on his chin. After a few minutes on the ground, Harper was able to make his way off the field under his own power and he was examined for a concussion. Harper's agent, Scott Boras, said that Harper did not suffer a concussion. Instead, he just needed to have stitches to treat the cut on his chin.

07:12 AM ET 05.14 | With Anthony Rizzo's contract set, many look at Jeff Samardzija as the next very expensive domino to fall for the Cubs. Samardzija's agent Mark Rogers told ESPNChicago.com there is nothing to report on a potential Samardzija deal at this point. It appears after the 2013 season both sides will re-evaluate their positions and see if a long-term deal makes sense for everyone involved. "It is not really important to me to tell the truth," Samardzija said. "I am the type of guy that his play speaks for itself. Most importantly you do the things you are supposed to do to win ballgames." ESPNChicago.com reported last November that the two sides had preliminary discussions about a three-year deal in the fall of 2012.

07:11 AM ET 05.14 | In hopes of bolstering a low-producing outfield, the Mets signed Rick Ankiel, who on paper could help both at the plate and in the field. Problem was that Ankiel's bat and glove were still stuck in Houston. Using a borrowed glove, the newest Met's misplay in the seventh inning began a three-run rally for St. Louis, which won, 6-3, at Busch Stadium. The Mets signed the pitcher-turned-outfielder, who had been released by the Astros last week, just hours before first pitch Monday night. ... Ankiel was hitting .192 with five home runs and 35 strikeouts in 65 plate appearances with the Astros when he was cut. He went 0-for-3 with a walk in his Mets' debut.

07:10 AM ET 05.14 | Credit Josh Reddick for remaining hopeful that his sore right wrist will recover with rest and some rehab. If not, surgery is a realistic option, the A's right fielder said Monday. Reddick was placed on the 15-day disabled list last Wednesday one day after painkilling shots failed to alleviate the discomfort. "I'm not going to say, 'OK, I need surgery,' but I'm also not going to rule that out," Reddick said before Monday's game against the AL West-leading Texas Rangers at the Coliseum. "Obviously, I don't want that, but it's something that's definitely not out of the picture right now." Reddick underwent surgery on his left wrist after the 2011 season. That recovery took two months, he said.
