08:35 AM ET 04.20 | Manager Matt Williams yanked Bryce Harper from the Nationals' 4-3 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday afternoon for "lack of hustle" and "the inability to run 90 feet" after Harper failed to reach first base on a groundball back to the pitcher in the sixth inning. The rookie manager stood behind his decision even after Harper's spot in the lineup came up during a ninth-inning rally that fell one run short.

09:49 AM ET 04.20 | Progress sometimes may come in small increments, but it still makes for progress. And the good news is that Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw is making progress. Kershaw has been on the disabled list since March 30 because of a strain on a back muscle. Kershaw has been on a throwing program since suffering the injury, apparently in his Australia start, but Sunday he is scheduled to face hitters in a simulated game. "That's good news, that he's going in the right direction," Manager Don Mattingly said. Kershaw, the two-time National League Cy Young Award winner, has been on what the Dodgers called a submaximal throwing program, or as the rest of us call it, playing catch. If Kershaw comes out of his Sunday effort OK, Mattingly was uncertain what would come next.

06:36 AM ET 04.19 | Free agent slugger Manny Ramirez has drawn interest from several Major League teams and is only considering a return to the majors, minors or Japan, MLBTR's Zach Links reports. These are the only options Ramirez would consider in order to continue his career, Links hears, as rumors connecting Ramirez to independent league teams are "totally untrue." There isn't any timetable on when, or if, Ramirez could sign with a team.

05:30 AM ET 04.19 | Noah Syndergaard has a major league fastball and curveball, but the Mets would like to see a little more "attitude" from their top pitching prospect. According to club sources, the stud right-hander disappointed organizational officials with his approach in his first two starts for Triple-A Las Vegas, but looked better on Monday after he was challenged by manager Wally Backman to bring more of a presence to the mound. "[Backman] told him to be more aggressive and asked him who he wants to become," said a person with knowledge of the conversation. "Does he want to become a middle-of-the-road starter or top-of-the-line starter? [Syndergaard] said he wanted to be a No. 1. He went out with a little more of an attitude [on Monday]."

05:51 AM ET 04.19 | Ron Davis, the former Yankee, was elated at the news Friday that his son Ike is no longer a Met. Davis told The Record of Hackensack, "That's the greatest news we've heard." He went on to tell the newspaper, "Why would you want to play for someone that didn't want you? They tried to get rid of him. Now he's playing for somebody that wants him. ... This is their choice. It's not the choice I would have made."
