Transfer intrigue follows Browne at USC

07:38 AM ET 04.17 | It was nearly 100 percent likely that USC coach Steve Sarkisian would name Cody Kessler his starting quarterback -- but Sarkisian made it official earlier this week. Max Browne suddenly became the hotter topic in wake of the decision, especially because fellow quarterback Max Wittek already decided to transfer before spring practice and some will assume Browne leaves eventually. "I'm staying put," Browne said. "I'm here for good." That obviously could change. Browne said he wants to obtain his degree from USC, which would also allow him to transfer without sitting out if he chose to leave. In the meantime, he will be the backup unless there is an injury. "He always can (win the position in the fall)," Sarkisian said. "Every position can. That's the beauty of a place like USC."

07:37 AM ET 04.17 | Even if Ezekiel Elliott spent the spring taking the majority of first-team reps, Urban Meyer insists there is no established pecking order at running back in Columbus. So after Ohio State's spring game Saturday -- one in which only two offensive touchdowns were scored on short runs by Bri'onte Dunn and Warren Ball -- a reporter asked Dunn if he felt like he was atop the depth chart. "That's my goal," he said. It's a lofty one, but that it's even worth the discussion proves that Dunn has grown tremendously since last year, a season in which he took a mid-career redshirt during a time running backs coach Stan Drayton said he felt he lost heart. Now a redshirt sophomore, Dunn likely won't unseat Elliott as Ohio State's starter ... but he could find a spot in the running back rotation.

07:37 AM ET 04.17 | The question of who will replace Johnny Football has taken a hit. The Aggies announced Wednesday morning that senior Matt Joeckel intends to transfer. A&M third-year coach Kevin Sumlin dubbed Joeckel a "great Aggie" and wished him the best. Joeckel was competing with touted freshman Kyle Allen and less-touted (than Allen) sophomore Kenny Hill for the gig to replace [Manziel]. ... Joeckel, who redshirted his first season, has already earned his degree from A&M's business school and will be eligible to play immediately at whichever school he chooses under NCAA guidelines. "I have loved my four and a half years at Texas A&M," Joeckel said in a statement. "I am glad I had the opportunity to play for Coach Sumlin, Coach (Jake) Spavital and the rest of the coaches."

07:35 AM ET 04.17 | In a manner of speaking, Bo Pelini's program has joined an exclusive group this spring. There are just seven schools with at least 10 commitments in their 2015 football recruiting classes, and Nebraska is one after receiving the nod Wednesday morning from wide receiver Spencer Tears. The 6-foot-3, 175-pound wide receiver from Oak Lawn (Ill.) Richards High School was one of the recruits who visited Lincoln over Spring Game weekend. ... Recruited primarily by Rich Fisher and John Garrison, Tears is the first wide receiver in the 2015 class. Nebraska joins Alabama, Penn State, Clemson, Tennessee, West Virginia and Mississippi State as the only schools to already hit double-digit commitments. The addition of Tears also continues Nebraska's recruiting push into Illinois, particularly the Chicago area.

07:34 AM ET 04.17 | Six-foot-10 Myles Turner will remain the center of attention until the end of the month. [Turner], the top remaining unsigned player in the class of 2014, announced Wednesday that he will make his choice at 4 p.m. on April 30. ... "All eyes are on you, so every move you take, anything you tweet, anything you say, people really pay attention to it," Turner said during an ESPNU interview Wednesday. ... Later in the ESPNU broadcast, the KU signee [Cliff Alexander] made reference to Turner when he was asked about the departure of KU center Joel Embiid to the NBA. "If somebody tells me that I'm the No. 1 pick, then I'm going to go into the draft," Alexander said. "So that's why we're working on Myles right now to fill in his spot." ... Fellow KU signee [Kelly Oubre] also said he'd talked recently with Turner.
