05:36 PM ET 05.16 | The Big Ten released its 2014 football schedule on Thursday afternoon. The new schedule includes both Maryland and Rutgers, who will be participating as members of the league for the first time that season. It also reflects the newly-aligned divisions, which are now divided along geographic lines. As the schedule makes clear, both the Terrapins and Scarlet Knights will face a tough introduction to their new conference. They'll face league powers and fellow East Division members Michigan and Ohio State every year, and they also have Michigan State and Penn State to contend with on an annual basis.

07:15 AM ET 05.16 | May can be a tough month for college sports fans, something that Jack Swarbrick alluded to on Wednesday. [Swarbrick] didn't look like he had chickened out. "You know it's a slow news day when you guys start telling me stuff that's said in booster clubs," the Notre Dame AD said Wednesday. ... [Brady Hoke] said recently Notre Dame "chickened out" when it chose to end the series with the Wolverines. "We all recognize that stuff you say at a booster club or a pep rally generally [can be like that]," Swarbrick said. "I take no umbrage at what someone says at either of those two functions." ... It sounds like Notre Dame would have had to make a choice in dropping Navy, USC or Stanford to make room for Michigan. That wasn't happening.

07:14 AM ET 05.16 | After a disappointing 2012-13, John Calipari has his sights set considerably higher for 2013-14, and missing out on the nation's No. 1 recruit didn't dampen his spirits. He called a press conference Wednesday, a day after Andrew Wiggins signed with Kansas, to rave about the guys he did get -- a recruiting class still considered one of the best of all-time -- and how good the Wildcats could be. "We're chasing perfection. We're chasing greatness. We're chasing things that have never been done in the history of our game," Calipari said. "People say, 'Pressure!' Man, pressure brings out the best. 'You're gonna be fired if you don't get this done!' I don't mind a little pressure."

07:13 AM ET 05.16 | Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee may be ready to run first and pass later, but the quarterback race at Auburn will heat up this summer nonetheless. Several newcomers arrived on Auburn's campus Tuesday, two days before the start of summer classes. Among them is quarterback Jeremy Johnson of Carver-Montgomery. Johnson, the state of Alabama's Mr. Football last season, will compete against four others -- Kiehl Frazier and Jonathan Wallace, and newcomers Nick Marshall and Jason Smith. The hurry-up, no-huddle is designed to fit a player's strengths, freshman or not. That means fresh-faced newcomers like Johnson and Smith will be on equal footing with the other quarterbacks fighting for the starting job in August.

07:12 AM ET 05.16 | In the case of Tennessee- Memphis, it may be one down, one to go. Bringing order to a rivalry nearly gone awry, UT athletic director Dave Hart told the News Sentinel on Wednesday that Tennessee and Memphis have "agreed in principle to a four-year home-and-home series in men's basketball." While discussions related to the universities meeting in football are ongoing, the basketball conversation has reached closure. "We're going to play," Hart said. "We're going to continue the basketball series." When the Vols and Tigers met on Jan. 4 at Thompson-Boling Arena, the affair was billed as the last meeting between the two for the foreseeable future.
