Touted freshman QB arrives at Auburn

07:13 AM ET 05.16 | Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee may be ready to run first and pass later, but the quarterback race at Auburn will heat up this summer nonetheless. Several newcomers arrived on Auburn's campus Tuesday, two days before the start of summer classes. Among them is quarterback Jeremy Johnson of Carver-Montgomery. Johnson, the state of Alabama's Mr. Football last season, will compete against four others -- Kiehl Frazier and Jonathan Wallace, and newcomers Nick Marshall and Jason Smith. The hurry-up, no-huddle is designed to fit a player's strengths, freshman or not. That means fresh-faced newcomers like Johnson and Smith will be on equal footing with the other quarterbacks fighting for the starting job in August.

07:12 AM ET 05.16 | In the case of Tennessee- Memphis, it may be one down, one to go. Bringing order to a rivalry nearly gone awry, UT athletic director Dave Hart told the News Sentinel on Wednesday that Tennessee and Memphis have "agreed in principle to a four-year home-and-home series in men's basketball." While discussions related to the universities meeting in football are ongoing, the basketball conversation has reached closure. "We're going to play," Hart said. "We're going to continue the basketball series." When the Vols and Tigers met on Jan. 4 at Thompson-Boling Arena, the affair was billed as the last meeting between the two for the foreseeable future.

07:12 AM ET 05.16 | Meet the new nickname, same as the former nickname. In a stunning reversal of his first major decision as University of Hawaii athletic director, Ben Jay has changed course and will name all of Manoa's men's athletic teams Rainbow Warriors. Jay became UH athletic director in January. In February he announced that all UH men's teams would be named Warriors, dropping Rainbows from those that still had it part of their name. Since 2000, some had been named Rainbows, some Warriors and some Rainbow Warriors. "The decision on February 13 to change the nickname of the men's teams to Warriors has generated a lot of discussion and we have received both positive and negative feedback," Jay said.

07:11 PM ET 05.15 | Florida offensive line coach Tim Davis has worked alongside conference rival Nick Saban - but that doesn't mean he likes the guy, comparing Alabama's head coach to the devil.

When asked about Will Muschamp at a local booster club meeting, Davis compared Saban to his boss - and not favorably.

"Will coached under the devil himself for seven years," Davis said. "I only did three. He did seven. And his DNA is not any different than Nick."

"[Muschamp's] like the other guy, only he's got a personality," he said. "He'll smile at you. He'll talk to you. You understand? That's what he's all about. That's Will. I'm proud to work for him."

Davis is the second SEC coach this offseason to compare the head coach of three of the last four national champions to the big guy with the pitchfork - Vanderbilt coach James Franklin called him "Nicky Satan" earlier this year.

06:59 PM ET 05.15 | This much is clear: Michigan State football and rap music do not mix.

Tuesday, news broke that 3-star wide receiver recruit Jay Harris was turning down his scholarship offer to play for the Spartans so he could pursue his rap career. Later, it was reported that wasn't the case: Michigan State had actually stripped his scholarship, a response to Harris' videos posted to Youtube under the name Jay DatBull. Harris' songs are, well, quite lyrically explicit, and the videos frequently show him smoking substances that don't appear to be legal in most states. Perhaps both sides of the story are a little bit true. Regardless, Mark Dantonio and Datbull will not have a chance to work together, as the high schooler is going to be writing rhymes instead of snagging catches.
