Miami-Florida rivalry losing TV luster?

11:43 AM ET 05.25 | What does it tell you about how far Miami has fallen as a national draw and how little clout the ACC has among its TV partners when Miami's game against Florida on Sept. 7 is kicking off at noon on ESPN? That's right, NOON! What is this -- Kentucky-Vandy on Jefferson-Pilot or Duke-Wake Forest on Raycom? Can't say I really blame ESPN for sticking this game in the undesirable noon slot. Miami is, after all, the home team and this is the ACC's TV game. Quite frankly, both UM and the ACC haven't been relevant on a national level for years. It also doesn't help that the Gators, even though they won 11 games last season, aren't the sexiest of teams and have very little star power. Prediction: This game will not even be a true sellout.

09:58 AM ET 05.25 | University of Miami football player Dyron Dye has retained counsel as he prepares to be interviewed by the NCAA for a third time in the case involving former Hurricanes booster Nevin Shapiro. The NCAA's request for an additional interview, which is expected to take place in Miami next week, was initiated because the governing body of college sports believes an affidavit signed by Dye that supports ex-UM receivers coach Aubrey Hill contradicts statements made in at least one of Dye's former interviews, a source close to the situation told The Miami Herald. The Herald also learned that former UM quarterback Jacory Harris wrote an affidavit referencing Hill and supporting some of the statements made in Dye's affidavit. An affidavit is a sworn statement made under oath. The source said there are other former UM players who are also prepared to corroborate what Dye stated in his affidavit.

04:16 PM ET 05.24 | Former defensive tech defensive tackle Delvon Simmons, who was a five-star prospect out of high school, visited Southern Cal last week and will be in Miami this weekend. Originally a North Carolina signee, former Red Raiders head coach Tommy Tuberville convinced Simmons to move to Lubbock as part of the Class of 2011. Tuberville, a defensive-minded coach, left Texas Tech for Cincinnati in December, and with Kliff Kingsbury, who is thoroughly focused on offense, running the show, Simmons decided to move on from Tech. He has two years of eligibility remaining and will have to sit out the 2013 season if he transfers to another FBS program.

04:14 PM ET 05.24 | West Virginia athletic director Oliver Luck said that the school would like to add a few marquee non-conference contests to future football schedules. Included in the list of desired opponents are Penn State, Pittsburgh, Virginia and Virginia Tech. Each of those schools has a history with the Mountaineers. West Virginia and Pittsburgh played 104 times between 1895 and 2011 in the Backyard Brawl, one of the best rivalries in college football. But like so many other great things, the dreaded scourge of conference realignment killed it when the 'Eers moved from the Big East to the Big 12. West Virginia and Virginia Tech met 51 times between 1912 and 2005, including every year since 1973. Penn State played West Virginia in each season from 1947 to 1992 and a total of 59 times. While Virginia doesn't have as much familiarity with the Mountaineers, the schools have played 23 times.

02:53 PM ET 05.24 | Alabama received a commitment Friday on the same day it extended the offer. O.J. Smith, of Bossier City (La.) Airline High School, tweeted that he had committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide Friday. Smith is currently unrated by most of the major services, which shows just how early we are in the recruiting process. He stands 6'2 and depending on the listing, weighs about 320 pounds. He's a very wide and stout prospect, and profiles as someone who would fit as a nose guard for Alabama. Smith also held offers from a few other major schools.
