Gamecocks moving in on recruit?
West Iredell High defensive back P.J. Clyburn is planning an official visit South Carolina for the Clemson game Nov. 28. That will be the first of four official visits he's arranging -- the others will be to East Carolina, North Carolina and Illinois. Clyburn, who will likely be a safety in college given his 6-foot-2, 205-pound size, hasn't been offered by the Gamecocks but that could be coming soon. He has good speed for his size and also played WR this season.

Oregon won't let Blount talk
The University of Oregon won't let it out. LeGarrette Blount is excused from appearing in the postgame interview area where other players give interviews. And he's shuffled away from post-practice media sessions. And on Saturday after the Ducks beat Arizona State, state troopers escorted Blount off the field. It was reported by ESPN that not talking with the media was part of the agreement that went along with Blount's "ladder" program that was designed by coach Chip Kelly. So much so that when Blount was contacted by a member of the national media during the early weeks of his suspension the player reported it immediately to Kelly.

Is Mangino a bully?
Reducing the Mark Mangino controversy to a "poke in the chest" is an exercise in denial and/or naivete. Defenders of Mangino want to cast Kansas linebacker Arist Wright as a wimp and a Judas for complaining that Mangino allegedly shoved him in the chest during a practice confrontation. Simple-minded tough guys want to laugh off Wright's allegation because football is a brutal game and coaches should be allowed to push and shove their players within reason. The defenders and the tough guys can't see the big picture. Mark Mangino is an abusive bully. He's been one from the moment he stepped on campus at Kansas. He used bully tactics to build a winning football team in 2007 and intimidate anyone on campus who dared to stand in his way.

Northwestern coach denies Irish interest
The ink is barely dry on the seven-year extension Pat Fitzgerald signed in June. The Northwestern coach believes that contract should settle any questions about whether he would be interested in Notre Dame if the school fires embattled coach Charlie Weis.
