07:25 AM ET 06.19 | At least for one day, Andrew Wiggins delivered as advertised. [Wiggins] arrived at Kansas on Saturday and participated in his first practice Monday. I asked somebody close to the KU program how that practice went. "Wow!" the source said. "Like watching a video game. He'd be the No. 1 pick this year." OK, then. And, remember, this is the same KU that just had Ben McLemore, a prospect so talented he could go No. 1 in next week's NBA Draft. But not if Wiggins was in it. Because this 6-foot-7 wing is apparently operating at a different level, and that's precisely why he should be a preseason First Team All-American and the top pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Simply put, Wiggins isn't a media-created sensation. He really is a unique talent.

07:24 AM ET 06.19 | What might have been for Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel. Even as [Manziel's] recent tweet about wanting to leave College Station is widely dissected, it's only now becoming clear just how close he came to departing the school and town before the "Johnny Football" sensation ever occurred. A&M initially suspended Manziel for the 2012 season following his arrest in College Station's Northgate bar district last summer, a source with knowledge of the situation told SportsDay. Manziel, entering his freshman season after sitting out the 2011 season as a redshirt, would have felt it was necessary to transfer if the suspension wasn't overturned on appeal, according to the source. Manziel won the appeal, allowing the Heisman Trophy winning season.

07:22 AM ET 06.19 | Peyton Manning still returns to Knoxville on a regular basis, including for a charity golf tournament and for workouts at Tennessee. The Denver Broncos quarterback and UT legend has been coming back to campus so long that many of the newest players on the Vols weren't even born when he started his college career in 1994. "It makes me feel a little older; it's pretty humbling," Manning said. "But at the same time, I enjoy getting to know these kids and being a part of the program and supporting it. I know coach (Butch) Jones is excited about the future and I'm looking forward to supporting him." ... Manning said he's also proud to call East Tennessee one of his homes, but he wasn't committed to naming Knoxville as his retirement destination.

07:21 AM ET 06.19 | For one, Gorgui Dieng likes the chances of seeing a title repeat. [Dieng] won an NCAA championship with Louisville this past April, but the big man believes the Cardinals will be even better in 2013-14. "I think they're going to have a better team this year," the 6-foot-11 Dieng said Tuesday following his Knicks workout. "It's tough to believe but I think they're going to have a better team. They have a lot of guards and the biggest guy on the team is 6-8. So they're going to do the things that they are known (for), which is like press, press more, press more because they have a lot of guards. Last year we had a lot of bigs but this year we have more guards. We have four, five guys coming in."
